The food was very good but OMG get the pitcher of Sangria
Service was friendly and accommodating, but was very slow. Food was a real disappointment, but the outside seating area was very pleasant with overhead lighting and salsa music in the background
The food was delicious as always. My 6 year old loved the grilled octopus and the seed encrusted ahi was very tasty. The server was very friendly but they seemed a bit understaffed. 2 bar drinks took a long time to arrive. This is still one of my favorite places and we will definitely be back.
Azuca was formerly one of our preferred spots in Southtown. When they were in the old, larger space the food was outstanding and it was usually busy. To my taste, the food quality has been slipping lately. Where once every dish popped with vibrant flavors and bold spices, now everything just seems "ok."
We started our last visit with a Caesar salad with blackened tuna. The salad was just chopped romaine, a tiny bit of cheese and maybe 6 or 7 croutons. The dressing was good and was well applied (not too much, not too little, and nicely mixed.) Unfortunately, the tuna itself was under-seasoned, especially for something that was supposed to be blackened.
For our main course, my wife had their paella, which is still quite good. It has a good balance of flavor and ample seafood. I had the Chef's Trio, a mix of steak, shrimp and seared tuna. The fillet was ok; when I've had this in the past the fillet was flavorful and meaty - tonight it was just flat. The shrimp were way undercooked and mushy - I sent them back to be grilled a second time and they came back ok, but again without much flavor. The lone standout on my plate was the seared tuna. It was perfectly seasoned, nicely spiced and cooked just right. Nice job.
I'd write off this experience as just a bad night, but it seems like a trend to me. We've eaten here probably 20 times in the past, but the last three or so have been disappointing. Don't get me wrong; an off night at Azuca is still much better than many restaurants. But with all the new competition around Azuca will need to get back to former glory...and soon.
Service was good. The plating of the food was beautiful.
The ropa vieja was fantastic. It’s a great meal, particularly for the price. Service was great. Music selection was great. Can’t recommend it enough.
Our meal was small, for the price. It tasted very good and was fresh. Service was slow. It took almost 30 minutes to get our drinks. I would try it again, but would likely sit inside.
Excellent friendly professional service
Food very tasty
Great place! The soup was delicious.
Had a nice experience at Azuca for Valentine's Day. My experience was very much impacted by the large crowd that came to Azuca and the use of a Fixed Price Menu with limited selections.
The food was very good, and uniquely presented. The salad with flowers was beautiful, but the Oyster was a bit over cooked. I had the soup dish which was good. The Fish Sampler Plate was beautifully presented and very tasty. The Lamb was excellent. If we had stopped at this point, the food rating would have been 4 stars. Unfortunately, the dessert was a bit of a let down. The plates had been previously prepared, and sitting on the counter for a while, which meant that the items on the plate did not have seemed a bit stale, as well as one note. Nevertheless, I would return in the future.
The service was not what I would expect under normal circumstances, but since they were super busy on Valentines Day, I'll give them a pass. We had to wait too much for food and check.
My husband and I went to Azuca for Valentine's Day. The food was great, the service could have been better, but again they were super busy!
Not made aware of the limited Valentines Day menu. Dinner for 4 was $403... we could have spent half that on a WAY BETTER MEAL at many other restaurants in this city. Not happy, not worth it! In town for a convention and out to dinner with coworkers and a contractor... titles of some of the dishes were “Sensual Foreplay” “Pleasure Me” and “Happy Endings”... incredibly uncomfortable for a business meal. No listed prices and no other options.
Incredible food! Azuca offers a variety of unique dishes that all taste amazing. The ambiance and service did not match the quality of the food, but overall was an amazing experience. Definitely recommend the ceviche!
Very authentic Latin food and ambiance. Great mojitos and fried plantains. Worth a visit.
Went during Restaurant Week for the first time. Loved the ambiance. The food was excellent especially the mixed meat grill. Every sampling of meat was delicious and plentiful. Enough for my friend and I to share. I will definitely go back and soon
I had a business dinner here for 5. The reviews on here were all quite positive. I don't know if it was a bad night (Thursday) or the norm, but our server (nice guy) had our table, a large party, and perhaps another table or two. Normally that would be fine, but he was also the bartender. Huge amounts of time between greeting, ordering drinks, ordering food. Not his fault, but the staffing was awful. One person can't do it all.
The food was ok, decent. A couple highlights, the guac was great and the mixed grill was a lot of food. Everything else was just average.
Average food and slow service for $50 a person. There are better choices.
Love this place! Great Latin food! I'm not the biggest tex-mex fan due to it generally being heavy & greasy (for the most part). Azúca has amazing food and I love looking around the restaurant at all the details (blown glass light fixtures, the bar, table designs, etc.) I ordered from the restaurant week menu. I truly wish the Bolivian empanadas were on the regular menu - they are fantastic! The Amazonian chicken breast is a favorite of mine (chicken was moist & cooked perfectly and the flavor of sauce and corn tortilla "breading" is awesome)!
Great experience and will go again. Went with two other couples and all raved about their dinners.
Best Paella ever. My friends were all happy with their dishes. Small but dedicated staff and chefs.
Always delicious and amazing service. Add this restaurant to your line up!
A great quiet evening out on the back patio made for an excellent date night where we could actually talk and enjoy amazing food and diverse mojito selections. A little chilly outside, but the heaters made it more than warm enough. The only downside to being removed from the inside was that service was a little less attentive than normal, but not so much so to negatively impact the experience. We had dinner around 8, which was perfect before the band and dance floor opened up and the place became a bit more lively.
Great experience! The food was on point and salsa music was very lively.
Friendly staff that treats you as if you are the only one there even if the place is full.
Make sure you try the ropa vieja and a mojito.
Paella had little flavor. Rest of items were very good. Service was very slow. Likely the result of short staff on New Year’s Day.
After walking over Restaurant was closed when we arrived.
Wonderful dinner!! We started with Ahi Tuna appetizer which was fresh & delicious. I followed with the Goat cheese salad & a side of grilled shrimp & my husband had the Chef's Trio. Everything was prepared with the freshest ingredients and with great care & culinary skills!! DELIGHTFUL!!!
Service was bad. Food was okay. Definitely recommend other options in SA.
The food was by far the best I had in San Antonio. Nice off the beaten path of the Riverwalk. Music was playing but at a level you could enjoy great conversations. Just a great time.
We really enjoy Azuca in our neighborhood. We always encourage our friends from other parts of the city to come downtown to enjoy Azuca. My only recommendation would be a bigger wine pour!
The food was delicious. I had the tortilla soup - highly recommend it! It had good amount of cheese and half avocado in it. The salmon with scallops was well plated with plenty of veggies. Plenty of sauce that tasted good.
Not as many Cuban foods as I expected, but It was good!
This was a quiet evening in the restaurant so noise levels were down. The food at Azuca is excellent. There is a wide ranging menu and between the four of us we sampled soups, plantains, salmon, mixed grill and the sea bass. Each starter or entree was way too good to be described as good. The food is way better than that - excellent is not an overstatement. And did I mention the mohito’s? This is a great place to eat. The open kitchen in front of the diners makes for great ambience. Azuca is a real gem - a real foodies paradise.
Dinner and drinks were AWESOME!!!
Our meals were divine! The mojitos were refreshing with lots of mint and lime. The meals were fantastic! I had the seafood curry and enjoyed every bite - a little heat to be interesting but not overwhelming. Also make sure you save room for Tres Leches cake - super yum!! And did I mention our waitor... we were a party of 6 and we did sharing among a subset of us and our waiter was able to separate our bills with no issue. This place was a winner!!
The staff at Azuca did a great job handling our large group of 9, including some who arrived late and some who left early. Everyone had a good time and remarked on the excellence of their food—seafood dishes were especially well received. The dining space is not large, and includes a bar and open kitchen. Our table was in the back, next to the kitchen, and we were definitely aware when chiles were being cooked. The space is fairly loud and probably quite lively on nights with live music.
Happened on this restaurant by mistake and, wow, what a treat! We were there in the mid-afternoon, so it was very quiet. The service was outstanding and the food was spot-on. Wish it had been later in the day because then it would have been a more appropriate time of the day to partake in Azuca's amazing mojito menu. The appetizers and main dishes were all freshly made and delicious. If you're in San Antonio and wish to wander a bit off of the Riverwalk, this is a great place!
Enjoyed the colorful atmosphere and great music. Chimichurri steak with veg and mash was tasty. (I personally wish the chimichurri sauce didn't have as much rosemary) The cornbread was a great addition!
Horrendous service started with no one greeting us on entry. A server tried to help but seemed confused when I stated I had a reservation and motioned us to a table squeezed between the bar and the door. After 15 minutes of waiting finally get in an order for drinks and apps but leaves before my wife can take another 10 seconds to give her drink order. Server proceeds to walk past us over the next 15 minutes without any recognition of our presence. 30 minutes after sitting down he shows up to take our order. I highlight we are disappointed with the service to which he responds your wife did not know what drink she wanted so I left. After challenging that, he states he is busy. The place is half full Saturday night at 9 pm. If you have the single large party give our table to someone else. If this is what busy looks like on a Saturday this business is not long for the making. The best thing they did was not charge us for drinks and apps. We swiftly left after giving the staff 30 more minutes than we should have. No one should have to deal with this service. And to add insult, they wouldn’t even cancel or clear my reservation so I could make another one! My advice find one of the other 4,000 restaurants in San Antonio to try.
Delicious food and drinks. Fun contemporary, Latin decor and music. The restaurant was busy and only one server was working but he somehow managed to keep track of everyone and everything.
