Azu Restaurant and Ojai Valley Brewery Ratings and Reviews
Great downtown location. Tap room and bar at the front and a few cozy chairs, booths and tables in the front. The back has more tables but it's cut off from the entrance. We enjoyed the front room for people watching and street view. Service was helpful and friendly. On site brewed beers were delicious. All of our food was great. There's also a free smaller tables out side.
Wonderful time. We've been here once before for lunch after a hike and this time we returned for a special dinner. It's our favorite restaurant in the Ventura area and we will be sure to make it a regular part of our vacation. The food was good, the service lovely and the ambiance and wine and beer made it exceptional.
The food was fine, but we found the service to be quite rude. The food itself took over 45 minutes to arrive. When we inquired if our server could check on the status of our food, he responded, "It'll be a while," without offering to check with the kitchen or offer any explanation. Will not be returning.
Went to Azu with my wife and two children. Service was wonderful, and the menu was not only kid friendly, but had some wonderful tapas and an amazing arugula and fig salad that was extra special. Ambience was nice, filled with art from a local artist. Will definitely return the next time we are in Ojai.
A cute looking place butrun very poorly. We made reservations for 5:30 before a concert and had to wait 15-20 minutes for a table despite the fact that there were several empty ones. Then it took an hour for our food to arrive (a burger and a shrimp taco) REALLY? The server did apologize, and brought some complimentary hummus. I didn't blame her it just seemed like they were really confused. At one point seven employees were waiting by the tiny kitchen window where the food came out. We were late to our concert because of the slowness. It is too bad as it looked cute and seemed to have potential. The martinis were good too.
Loved our dinner at Azu. We were looking for good food and decent vegetarian choices in a tapas setting. Azu did not disappoint. The chopped salad was beautiful and plenty to share. The olives were delicious. We then shared falafel stuffed chili relleno which was incredible but made us wish it was double the size. Spicy, cheesy potato tots on the side were yummy. We couldn't resist creme brûlée for dessert which was fabulous. Left very 😊.
I specified it was a birthday and our waiter and host forgot so I had to ask for a candle for my girlfriend, and that was after coming in the afternoon day of our reservation and double confirming everything. The main course salmon was very underwhelming, lacked any flavor palette. The tapas were delicious as was the soufflé.
First visit to Azu, and looking forward to the next. Their craft beer is excellent. Did a flight of six, and enjoyed each of them, particularly the white pixie and dark lager. I'm not a fan of the big hops trend, and there were plenty of options for me to enjoy (but don't worry hopheads, they have IPA too). We tried a few apps - fried potatoes, cauliflower - very tasty. My wife and kids are vegetarian, so they had the vegetarian paella, and I had the seafood paella. Everyone left full and satisfied. Will definitely return, maybe without the kids next time and enjoy a few tasty pints with the wifey.
First time visit to Ojai for 3 out of 4 of us. Was recommended by Ojai Olive Company, but had already made the reservation based on TripAdvisor reviews. Good food, nice staff, reasonable pricing. Their rice flour battered Calamari was a big hit especially since we are Gluten-Free. We had to double our order :)
As a cook, and a Bay Area resident, I'm a bit of a food snob. Ojai didn't have many restaurants that piqued our interest. Relative to what we found in Ojai, Azu was a good choice. The food was ok, the grenach Blanc was fine and we had a nice view of the sunset from our sidewalk outdoor table. The server and all employees were very sweet, attentive and capable. We liked the fish taco. If this restaurant was in SF I'd give it 2 or 3 stars.
....somehow for the feel of Ojai, relaxed and calm, the service here was rushed and forced. The beer was delicious, despite the overly lengthy dicussion with the waitresss over a taste vs a small tasting that the restaurant offers.
The food was delicious and the heat from the pepper dish we ordered fantastic.
The restaurant was very nicely decorated and the outdoor patio was beautiful. It felt like a hidden gem. The arugula salad with feta, dried figs and prosciutto was great as were the gambas, but most everything else we had fell flat. I would suggest sticking to the basics and the expansive cocktail and beer list
It was like a bait and switch with the menus. They have a bar menu and online there are two dinner menus. We were given a menu to order our dinner from. Then when we asked to look at the menu again after we ordered to look up the name of the excellent cheese that was in the appetizer and was given a menu that was different from what we ordered from. This later menu was the one I saw on line that enticed me to eat there. The food server gave us the excuse that it was an old menu. Then why were they still giving them out to patrons. The menu we ordered from had higher prices on it. Also we paid by credit card and the food server brought us on the restaurant's copy to sign and none for our records. We had to request one as we were leaving. If we are in town again, we will probably pass on AZU.
My Wife and I really enjoyed our stop here on Saturday night .The restaurant offers 4 different seating sections, each offering diners a different kind of vibe. After passing by the casual outdoor seating in front and bar seating inside, my wife and I sat in the main dining area. Adorned with life drawing sketches on the walls, high ceilings, and cute bistro tables, the ambiance was warm and inviting. We really enjoyed our mix of tapas; the chrorizo stuffed dates and sauteed shrimp were highlights, but the best part of our meal was the perfectly cooked medium rare rib eye. Combined with great local wines and a one man band providing some soothing sounds in the back patio/bar area, the experience was a very enjoyable one. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone visiting Ojai who enjoys tapas inspired cuisine.
