The rooftop of Hotel Presidente is home to Azotea Calle 7, a perfect shelter from the busy –and sometimes chaotic– heart of San José. You can enter through Calle 7, between Avenida Central and Avenida Segunda, either by climbing the red spiral staircase that takes you right into the red-brick terrace, surrounded by colorful veraneras (bougainvillea plants), palm, jicaro, orange and lime trees whose fruits might end up in your cocktail.

    We booked a table as part of our honeymoon. Staff were lovely, food was good - a little overpriced maybe. I woke in the night with a bad stomach, but I don't know if that was down to the food, and it was thankfully short-lived.

    We loved this restaurant! We weren’t staying at the hotel where it is located but found it on open table. It is so good! My husband said it was the best food he’s had since he arrived 2.5 weeks ago and we’ve been to some great restaurants. Really cool setting on the rooftop. It was raining when we were there but the ambiance was great anyway. Our waiter was attentive and helpful also.

    The service and food was very good and unusually quick. The location was nice, but we wanted seating ‘on the roof’ (patio). The staff accommodated our (minor) dietary requests. The waitress did upsell the drinks, though we didn’t realize it until the cheque came. The layout of the dining area is unusual. This not a traditional seating arrangement but rather something like a cocktail lounge. Very small tables (1 meter round) and very close together with other patrons. We couldn’t sit on the outdoor patio because it had rained (perhaps we could have dried the seats off?).

    Le restaurant est joli et la nourriture est excellente. Malheureusement la coupe de vin rouge que j’ai reçu n’était pas très bonne mais on ne l’a pas facturé. Le poulet était un tout petit peu trop cuit mais la sauce qui l’accompagnait était excellente. Le gâteau au chocolat avec amandes était très bon. Je vais y revenir lors de mon prochain séjour.

    I organized two large group parties of Costa Ricans at Azotea in 2018 and was very happy with results in every aspect. I recommended it fully as a result. Yesterday, I organized this smaller group, and was disappointed primarily by the price increase in food and drink. We were offered the special drink of the day, and only because I asked, we found out that instead of being a special price, it was double the price of any of the drinks, which were already pretty high. We would have been very surprised when presented the bill. The menu was more creative before the pandemic as well. I love the place, but think I can only recommend it for a quick drink.

    This restaurant is amazing !!! Food and Atmosphere; as you emerge from spiral staircase you enter a beautiful building top terrace patio, Kenneth and Chris greeted us and directed us to a quiet dark corner. The Bar and internal decor gave off amazing vibes. Very “chic”! The drinks were out of this world ! My burnt pineapple mojito was absolutely delicious…. I mean super good !! service was beyond reproach felt so welcome, and the food did not disappoint!! I had white mushroom risotto with seared yellow fin and it was done perfectly, I had everyone at my table sample !!! The bean dip and fish tacos were also scrumptious We will recommend this place to any and all if you are in the heart of San Jose make this a stop!! Thank you for a memorable visit!!

    El lugar es sumamente bonito para disfrutar en pareja, o con amigos, a nosotros primero nos correspondió en la parte interna pero luego nos pudimos pasar a la terraza, donde nos gusto másaun por la frescura, elegancia y tranquilidad del lugar. El servicio de todos super atento. Nos hubiera gustado tener más opciones de comida pero en general lo que comimos estaba delicioso.

    Great place, parking would say it's the unique downside, walking around in SJO late night it's not nice, plus most of public parking lots close earlier(21:30)than the restaurant.

    It feels that you are not welcome. Since we got there, there was constant reluctant to let us in, even though we had reservations. Service was ok, but you can’t really do anything other that to drink and eat. I tried to go inside to meet the place, was carrying my camera and suddenly I was stopped like if I was sone thief or something (i was just trying to get my daughter a picture, what is the big deal?). Anyway, won’t come back, not worth the trouble.
