Azalea Latin Asian • Sushi
Show your taste buds some love and indulge in flavors from tonkotsu ramen to ginger salad, tiradito, ceviche, pork bao, imperial duck, filet mignon and everything in between.
We didn't forget the sushi. There's just too many to name.
Waitress was terrible, food took forever even on Puerto Rico time, and food was hit or miss! One item great another awful and so on,,...
Seafood sushi was great. Salads were great. Duck got a was great. The land animal sushi was pretty bad. Almost inedible. Very slow service.
Great Asian/Puerto Rican place in old San Juan. We went here twice in 2 weeks, brought some friends, and everyone had a great time. The service is good, friendly, and helpful. I will say that if you're looking for authentic sushi, this may not be it. I'm not a sushi eater but those who were said that the rolls were loosely rolled and not cut into consistently sized pieces. There were no issues with taste, but I think a sushi purist might be disappointed. The pork bao buns were ridiculously tasty, great pernil, crunchy pickles, spicy aioli, and soft warm buns. The pernil rolls were good, but the pork wasn't hot. I had pad Thai which was delicious, but not authentic. The pollo al ajillo with fried rice was great, although I'm not sure I'd call the rice fried, and curiously, they included French fries on the plate. Friends had chicken lo mein and chicken fried rice, and they looked good as well. Alcoholic drinks are very fancy here, with azalea's Asian/PR take on classic cocktails. Ambiance is good, and there's a cool little waiting/sitting room lit up in pink neon. Overall, I'd go back and definitely recommend giving Azalea's a try.
Interesting restaurant in central Old San Juan. The 2 specialty sushi rolls were excellent. The duck was tasty but chewy and they didn’t have the traditional pancakes. Overall good though a bit pricey.
Really looked forward to trying a new restaurant in San Juan; exceeded my expectations! Found the restaurant while doing research online to see if any new restaurants had opened since my last visit in 2019. Came across their Instagram which doesn’t do their food justice. From the decor, to the undeniably fresh fish/enticing menu, and the awesome service, I give this restaurant 5 stars. I wish them much success and hope to visit again on my next trip. PS If you’ve ever been to Pubbelly Sushi in Miami, this place reminded me of it just a bit (also owned and managed by a Puerto Rican chef)
Eating at Azalea was not a good experience. First the service was atrocious. It was not our server's fault. She was very nice and doing her best but something was going on in the kitchen that she clearly had absolutely no control over. We were five people who ordered 3 appetizers and 5 entrees and they all came out at different times. We were there forever. First one dish would come out, 5 minutes later another, 10 minutes later another, the 1st entree came out before the last appetizer and the last entree came out a good 5 minutes after the rest of us were finished eating. It was bizarre. The food was uneven, too, from one very good appetizer (Ropa vieja bao) and one very good entree (Seared Hotate - scallops) to fair to inedible (a very dry, flavorless udon). This was really a surprise considering the "awesome" other reviews. Hope it was just a bad night where maybe the cooks didn't show up for work or something.
Extremely slow. Didn't bring all of our dishes. Food was very solid though.
Personal muy decente y amable. Comida was tasty and on point.
You can't best Peking duck and the blackened tuna tataki was a fabulous appetizer.
We loved our dinner at Azalea. The music had a good vibe and was at the right volume where you can't hear the people talking next to you but you still understand the people at your own table. The sushi was amazing. It took a little longer to make but it was absolutely worth the wait! We had 5 rolls and 1 drink + 20% tip it came to 100$. Great price for amazing quality.
Everything was beyong my expectation. The service, the food and the ambience was perfect. Cant wait to come back. Cheers!!!!
Excellent new place! Great food and service! Highly recommended
We throughly enjoyed our meal at Azalea. The food and drinks were great. Everything was served at the perfect temperature and straight from the kitchen to our table. We will definitely return next time we are in San Juan.
Amazing experience! Food was on point, the tuna pegao really shine and the scallops pad thai was really amazing. Service was very good. Overall super experience.
Vacation with my family
My appetizer was served after my main course. My main course was shrimp lo mein and the noodles were over cooked. Sushi roll was good but took waayyy too long to come out.
We were a party of four and ordered five sushi rolls. It took 30 min to get the first roll and over 90 min to get the fifth roll. Tables around us seemed to get things at random times as well -- several that came in after us left before us. My wife is from PR; we go there a lot, and want to support new restaurants -- especially ones with potential. The server blamed the kitchen and the newness of the place but was otherwise nicely unhelpful. If Azalea can get its act together so the quality of the service and timing match the qulaity of the food I could recommend it, but unfortunately cannot at this point.
Fantastic new restaurant!
I went on New Years evening, and the food was amazing, also the service. Angelica and Natalia were our waiters. They were the best! Thank you Azalea, I may come back :)
Server was replaced half way in our meal, almost an hour for our first course in a 4 course meal.
Prefixed menu was not mentioned at the time of the reservation 3 weeks before, a real surprise when we arrived. Part of our party had to leave due the delays to a previous commitment due the season ( New Years Eve ).
Food was good but not exceptional, overpriced for the offer.
Gratuity was included, even though with all the poor service.
The food took an hour and a half to come for one of the guests and when it came the sushi was a mess.
Sushi was amazing!! Love the Latin spice and huge sake list
Dessert first - the ginger coconut creme brulee was absolutely amazing, topped with sesame seeds in the carmelized sugar topping .... YUM. We had three rolls, all delicious ... the Maya roll was outstanding, a true fusion roll. People were friendly, service was slow, but it seemed the norm for San Juan. It was freezing inside, with air blowing and no where to go that was warmer, that's the star off for ambiance. Would go back, but would bring a sweater!
Delicious food, but service was very slow.
Our food took forever, place was freezing. People sitting beside us were obnoxiously loud.
Our food came later than most people who say down after us. Which means either the order wasn't put in on time or it was forgotten.
When it came, it was underwhelming.
Best dish we had was the Garlic Chicken
Would highly recommend the fried rice.
We had a veggie sushi that needed sauce and flavor. The spicy tuna roll was basically cream cheese.
Menu options were fantastic and food did not disappoint. We had a few cocktails before dinner that were all delicious. To eat we ordered the spicy edamame, tuna appetizer, rainbow roll, volcano roll, fortuleza roll, and I can’t recall the 4th now. The tuna appetizer and volcano roll were our favorite. The service still needs some fine tuning as they get on their feet but would definitely go back and recommend to a friend as well.
Excellent Asian restaurant in Old San Juan! Food is fresh and delicious. Will recommend it to anyone visiting OSJ!
Easy to access via Uber or walking, in one of the main streets of old San Juan, locally owned, great service, decoration and ambiance. Extensive menu for sushi lovers and those who are not such huge fans.
Best Latin Asian restaurant in Old San Juan. Beautiful ambience and atmosphere. Full complete menu with tremendous cocktails and a variety of culinary options! Highly recommended!
Walking through old san juan on a Sunday afternoon we find this restaurant with pleasant atmosphere and beautiful architecture. The food, the service and the house drink “the greener mule”, everything was delicious. Recommendations: duck truffles fries, azalea sea salad, tiradito and the Pad thai.... I will definitely return.
The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. We especially enjoyed the special bar drinks, the cucumber/wasabi infused vodka mule and the sesame infused whiskey was great (even took photos so we could try to replicate at home).
Another gem in Old San Juan!!!...great cocktails (we tried 4, all excellent!)... plenty of cold/hot entrees and tapas...so many, that we could not continue to try the main courses, so it is imperative at least a couple of visits to go over the ones that looks so attractive to try!
We had a day on in old San Juan from our cruise ship and wanted to try interesting fare, Latin Asian seemed to fit. We were not disappointed. For starters we had the pork pao (bun) which packed heaps of flavor, as well as the spring rolls, crispy stuffed with roast pork and fresh veg. My spouse had chicken breast and fries for the main. I had a spicy sushi roll with pernil in the center and thinly sliced scallops on top. Portions were plenty. Highly recommended.
Service was spot on but the there were only a few of us in the restaurant at the time.
The service, food, attention to details, ambience, and decorations was more than what I would’ve hoped for. The restaurant is perfect for dates, get together with friends, or even as a solo walking. I hope to back again soon!
Too cold. very uncomfortable. Temperature of the air conditioning was at 65 and 66 with the fan speed at high. It should be around 70 to 72 with fan speed at low or medium.
Main courses were excellent, duck truffle fries were amazing. Miso soup and salad were just ok.
Baby that was obnoxious at next table ruined ambiance which is not really restaurants fault. Service was outstanding.
