Axel's - Roseville Ratings and Reviews
Chicken wild rice soup and the Shrimp risotto were both very salty. Risotto was thin, not very cheesy as most risottos are, and had a strange flavor to it, perhaps from the IPA beer that was used instead of broth. Only 3 grilled shrimp came on top of the risotto, seemed skimpy even for a lunch entrée. My guess would be that the dinner entrée would likely not have any more than the 3 shrimp. It was also very chilly in the restaurant. Even hot tea did not warm us up. Wait staff and the maître d were all very nice.
Have been there several time in the last 2 months. Each time we were treated as valued guests. The food and service were very good. We tented to talk for a while after we finished eating but we never felt that we had to leave before we were ready. Staff and service were great.. Will be back and have praised you to my friends and family.
We went to Axel's for Thanksgiving brunch. We received e-mail in advance saying to be prepared for a 15-20 minute wait. The actual wait time was 30 minutes. The food, however, was well worth the extra wait. The selection was excellent and the food was well prepared. The beef was so tender that I didn't need a knife to cut it. I'll definitely return.
The Thanksgiving buffet has everything! Next year skip the hassle and get yourself a reservation. Includes: traditional and elevated Thanksgiving dishes, carved to order prime rib and turkey, seafood, charcuterie, fruit, dessert and omelette and crepe stations, as well as add on Bloody Mary bar and bottomless mimosas. Everything was good. Totally worth it!
The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation for the Thanksgiving buffet. The variety was fantastic! Our waitress was very attentive and accommodating. Definitely 5 stars! We always have an excellent culinary experience when dining at Axel's.
We did the Thanksgiving Buffet and the experience was very nice except our server was not very attentive. Variety and quality of food was very good. Bus staff was always right there to remove used plates and dishes but our empty beverages - diet sodas - sat empty thru the whole meal without any refills; and then we had to go looking for help to get our check when we were ready to leave. There seemed to be plenty of wait staff - this was in the dinning area by the bar - but our particular server was not paying attention to us.
I feel like Axels Roseville has really gone downhill in terms of food quality and service. This place used to be really busy on Tuesday nights for AYCE Crab Legs but when we arrived I questioned if that was even a special anymore as it was not very busy at all. The host attempted to seat us at a table right next to other diners so we asked to move one table over. When it's not busy I don't know why you wouldn't space your diners out. It felt like a good 10 minutes before a server came to our table. Once he did he was friendly but service remained slow. He'd mentioned at one point that we were his only table so you'd think he would've had the opportunity to be more attentive. I had the AYCE crab and my boyfriend had the NY Strip. His steak was cooked properly and he enjoyed it but I was not impressed with my crab legs. The French Onion soup I started with was excessively salty. The mashed potatoes looked like they were a week old as well as the sad looking crab legs. I wished I'd ordered a different potato choice for sure. Taste was mediocre and the server did not stop back to check on us until we were finished. In the past it's been my experience that more crab is offered well before I even need it but this time it was long overdue and we were just ready to go at this point so we declined. For a $100 meal I wish we'd spent our money elsewhere.
We had a reservation for 3 people and were seated immediately. We sat for 10 minutes and no one stopped by to stay, "be right with you" or fill our waters, no contact was made. I completely empathize with staff when overwhelmed but for this price point, you need to touch base with people because they're about to spend $200+ at your restaurant. We got up and left and spent our money elsewhere and will likely not return.
I was disappointed as the Roseville Axel's does not come close to the ambiance of the Mendota Axel's. I got bumped by people passing behind me several times. So to me that means the tables are too close to avoid this in the future. Our waitress was excellent - very accommodating.
Waited10 min after being sat at 7 pm to be greeted , had to flag down someone to get service , had table reserved , host had names , joiners were sat at another table , had to go get them to the right table . Was assigned a diff server , food took over 40 min to be delivered , 2 nd server did a great recovery
We were looking forward to our dinner at Axel's. We had cocktails and started off with our salad and popover - It was excellent. The problem was our meal arrived too soon! We had a choice of finishing the salad and letting the dinner get cold or trying to eat all of it at once. I could understand this at Applebees but I felt this restaurant should have had better service than this. I ordered the KC steak which was supposed to be a New York Strip Steak. I was surprised at the cut. It was about 1/2 - 3/4"" thick. It was not what I was expecting. I'm used to steak houses serving strips 1 - 1 1/2" thick. My wife loved her coconut shrimp. All in all it wasn't a horrible experience but not as good as we were expecting.
As usual, the food was fantastic. Our server made the meal personal and fun. I wish I remembered his name, because he went far above and beyond to show us a great time! My husband especially enjoyed our witty waiter, and would happily go back again just for the service and banter. Only downside was the dull knives we were all given for cutting our meat. I thought my prime rib was going to be chewy because of how hard it was to cut, but it melted in my mouth. A sharper knife would have made the experience a 12 on a scale of 1-10...would recommend highly.
We both ordered steak. They were done as we ordered. Baked potatoes were obviously held in a steamer and over done.
What bothered me was the noise level, Horribly noisy. Service was great, food was mediocre at best. The standout was the French onion soup, It was awesome.
The complaint we have was our service. Although she was very nice, our server Shelly was not trained very well. Both my husband and I were both bartenders and servers, and she seemed as though she needed some more thorough training. The food was okay, but we won't be rushing back anytime soon.
Again, the server was very nice, but she seemed overwhelmed with the 3 tables she had, and didn't really know anything about the menu or the choices.
Not my favorite visit to Axels. I have been here many times but this time I was amazed at the service. Not so good, but I know it was busy so I let it go until the end of the meal my guests and myself all took out our credit cards. The waitress took mine and charged me for the whole meal for the three of us. What could I do but pay the bill. I did not want to be no I am not paying for my friends and make them feel bad. It would have been very embarrassing. Out to Axels is usually a good time, great food at a semi affordable expense, but this time I spent 3 times more than I thought I was going to pay. I am not sure why the waitress assumed I was paying for all but that is the way it ended up. Disappointed to say the least.
This was our anniversary dinner. The steak and the prime rib tasted good and were served hot, but the horseradish to go with the prime rib was so salty that it ruined the taste of the prime rib when dipped. The Au'Gratin potatoes were not good at all, nor were the onion rings. The popovers were ok. The green beans tasted good, but were not hot. The hostess & server were pleasant, although it wasn't noticed that we had no plates for our popovers. We were initially surprised at how many tables were open on a Friday night, but considering the prices and poor food quality, we figured out why it was so empty. Very diappointing. Please check Porterhouse or Lindy's instead. Always exceptional food at both.
Impressed! It was our first time trying Alex. We had read a few reviews and wanted to try their steaks. It's a little "off" everything so we never got to try it. I would say... Very much comparable to Porterhouse, the steaks were really good and cooked to perfection (we like ours medium rare). The filet mignon was very tender, my husband had the big Porterhouse (a special that night) and it was perfectly cooked as well. It was a great after-office stop! The manager was at the entrance and he was very kind and you could feel his genuine care for all diners. He stopped by a few times to check on everything without being intrusive. We will be returning for business meetings in the future. I trust that this place can make deals happen. . Great business sense toward their diners, we appreciate that. Thank you!
We returned to Axel's after about 5 years as the food had fallen in quality. Axel's clearly hired a new chef or went through a change in menu as food has improved a lot....I didn't complain because it was still pretty tasty but I ordered a steak "very, very rare" and it came medium. It was NOT rare. I'll be back again but if I order a steak I'll be even more emphatic next time. When a customer tells a server she/he wants it really rare and you charge what you do for a steak, please make sure it's as red as she/he wants it cooked.
Wait-staff was excellent. Unfortunately we were not made to feel at all welcome by the hostess ("Pam"). We felt more like a nuisance than an appreciated customer. I made a special request on open table for a booth and then called an hour ahead to be sure we had a booth...was told "no problem"....got there and all booths were filled. Hostess acted like she didn't know anything about the request and when we asked to move to an empty booth, she treated us terribly. There's more.
