I used to love the all you can eat Snow Crab on Tuesdays at Axel's, it was sweet and fresh and delicious. We hadn't been to Axel's for some time but when my daughter's 21st birthday coincided with Snow Crab Tuesdays, we knew it was the place to celebrate. I was SO disappointed. I don't know if they have changed their crab purveyor, but the crab was grey and tasted really bad. We sent it back and asked for new crab, but it all came out basically the same. The server was attentive and nice and tried her best but when the bill came out to be over $200 (4 of us, 2 cocktails, no other drinks) I felt ripped off. It will be a very long time before I give Axel's another try.
Always great food and service here. We were unhappy they took an item off the menu and it was put back on. Many people missed the Ciopinno!
Was a snowy night & we were the only four people in the place. Food was good, drinks chintzy; a lot of ice & not much cocktail.
Lunch at Axel’s with friends was great! The waitress was wonderful and the food was great! Will definitely go back!
I doubt we'll be back. The food was so-so. The restaurant looks tired and rundown. The popovers, which Axels is notorious for, seemed to be re-heated in a microwave (they were dry/hard in places). The waitress was nice.
Good service. Like that you can order ala carte. Sea bass was not good. Fishy. It is my favorite fish, so I order a lot when I eat out. I would guess it was frozen not fresh fish. Another person's sirloin steak was excellent.
Axel's Chanhassen never disappoints. I didn't catch the waiter's name, but he's there often when I'm there. He's terrific. The restaurant is easy to get to, and always comes through with speedy service when needed, great food, and a quiet atmosphere. And they don't rush you if you're there to visit and dine. Love it!
the Service was a little bit to be desired little on the crabby side forgot our popovers they were not brought until long after our soup and salad and appetizer would of liked it with my salad was very disappointed for my husband who was really looking forward to a bake potato with his $55.00 dollar steak and they had none he had to settle for French fries so that kinda took that high buck menu item(Dinner) to a kinda lunch meal. The only redemption was the food was all very good steaks cooked perfectly for that I would be willing to go there again!
Carrie was great, the food was great but the noise level was too high.
Food is decent but for the price there are better places.
Axel’s never disappoints... Consistently good food and service!
Classic supper club experience Very cozy and comfortable
Service was slow and restaurant was not crowded, 35 minutes to get water. Poppers were cold and doughy. Bacon undercooked and scallops were barely warm. My husbands pork steak was not prepared to his request and tough. Very disappointed
The food was very elegant and the service was so sweet.
Every month I dine at Axel's with three other friends before shows at the Chanhassen Dinner Theater. We make 5:45p reservations to get to the 8p show. Here's the thing, even when we mention to our server that we'd like to be out by 7:15p or so, we're always racing to get to the show. I figure 2 hours/15 minutes would be plenty of time to dine and get to a show, but we run close every time. We don't dawdle on ordering...we only have one drink before dinner and give our server our order as soon as we can. I think it would be nice if the server asked if we were going to a show...or had time constraints. Even if they don't, when WE mention it, it shouldn't be such a sprint. We're rethinking coming back in March when we see our next show because we don't want to wait, wait, wait and then be rushed.
Awful food and awful service.
There was one waiter to serve all parties. While the restaurant was not crowded, it still impacted our ordering and receiving our food.
The salmon was salty --way to salty and the broccoli was way too buttery and too cold
The bathroom was 65 degrees because the heater went out
The server coughed into his hand as he was taking our order ---gross
The beet salad was --well not very good. There were two or three SMALL cubes of beets.
The wedge salad had a $4 upcharge and there wasn't much to it
NO I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS AND NO I WOULD NEVER GO BACK
We were an after thought to our server, never ended up getting our dinner. Waited 1 1/2 hours for our main course and it still never came out, this is all after waiting 15 mins for our drinks which were wrong. Manager comped the meal and gave us a gift card. Don’t think that makes up for very few opportunities to take my wife out on a date night. Won’t be back!
Restaurant was packed due to an unprecedented Super Bowl crowd of Philadelphia fans. They I feel disrupted the ambience but then it was Philadelphia fans. Regardless of the crowd, food came out hot, delicious and cooked to perfection.
Great food and excellent ambiance. Would highly recommend!
We had a fantastic meal at Axels!!
We not only enjoy the food but the ambiance.
A busy, noisy, early Saturday dinner. Server was friendly but seemed rushed and easily distracted. Pork chop and walleye dinners were very good. Generous portions, but
over-priced, in our opinion.
Too bad, loved the Parker House, loved the Riviera, this place has gone downhill. Pretty evident when it's only 1/3 filled on a Friday nite.Told server Bull Bites were unedible, she said sorry. My Sea Bass took a knife to cut. Made a special point to seek out manager, all he did was say he was glad I told him.
The popovers are delicious! Loved the Parmesan walleye! I like that they allowed is to change the sides - other than the sides that came with the dish! The service was efficient! We were not interested in a long drawn out meal just out to get something to eat - they accommodated that very well!
Had a wonderful meal and great service.
Our server, Janet was outstanding. My wife and I had my 13 year old daughter with us. We were ordering ala carte. She quickly saw that it would be better to order one full meal and the other items separately which would save us some money. She also saw we were trying to order more healthy options and made some recommendations. Service was speedy and impeccable. Of course, I left a large tip.
New Years Eve - they were not well equipped. It was -10 degrees outside and heat had gone out several days prior. Instead of letting customers know, placed a few space heaters around which people were literally fighting over (many people were actually being very rude about it). Everyone was huddled over their tables in coats and scarves. On top of that, wait staff did not seem to be in a festive mood in the least (granted the situation they were working with was also difficult I'm sure). Managers did their best to try to accommodate, however everything fell very short. We have been here many times and had decent experiences however this has been the second time we've attempted to come on an "occasion" and were extremely disappointed.
make sure you specify that you want to sit in the dinning room when making a reservation, we made reservations 5 days ahead of time and they gave us a table in the corner of the noisy bar.
Axels in Chanhassen is always a favorite of ours. It is one of the few places in SW suburbs where you can go to the bar for a drink before dinner and name any drink from the 40's to current and they actually know how to make it. The bartenders are professionals here which doesn't seem to be the case in many other restaurants. The food is always good and the ambiance is cozy. We come here for dinner often but also stop in for a drink and an appetizer at the bar just as often.
Our usual choice at the bar is mussels and french onion soup!
Great food, and our server was good, however, there didn't seem to be any heat in the place. -10 below outside and we were seated by the door ( New Year's Eve) so it was a bit chilly in the place. I saw a few people complain about their location and got moved. Management maybe should have said something when we arrived and/or offered a hot specialty drink due to the situation.
Apparently the heat hasn’t been working in 4 Days (outside temp is -15 degrees). It was maybe 58 degrees where we were sitting (thermostat was set to 80) and waitress said it doesn’t go any higher and the furnace wasn’t working. We FROZE!!
Server didn’t bring out popovers until we asked for them. Food was average, we had to eat so fast because our feet were frozen. When your waitstaff are told to wear sweaters and the hostess is wearing a jacket while at work there is something wrong. We should have been notified or the place should have closed.
We arrived and revealed that we had a reservation - to a hoard of teenage girls with very glittery eyes, the leader of whom told us that “...like Open Table just kept allowing people to reserve tables...and people aren’t leaving...so like, you can either have a high top or wait for a while...” I thought that the whole point of a reservation was that you didn’t have to wait. Luckily people did leave and we got a table relatively quickly. Our rather SEASONED waitress was not particularly attentive. I got the feeling she is used to getting her 20% without much effort. It took 10 minutes after being seated to be greeted and get water, and then after about 10 minutes MORE she introduced herself a second time and took our drink order. She never once noticed that drinks were empty or ever asked if we wanted a refill.
The food was very good. The service was subpar. Despite the fireplace, it was cold enough that I felt like I needed my coat most of the time we sat there. Just okay and not great for a special occasion.
Food was excellent, and the feel of a supper club. Able to have a conversation, lovely evening
An overall nice place to have a good meal. The night we were there the restaurant was cool and a bit drafty, but it was in the minus-teens outside.
Our waiter Bob was excellent and added tot he enjoyable experience.
Trying to be a supper club but doesn't pull it off with average food and slow service.
Unfortunately we didn't have dinner at Axels. We had an appetizer and a waitress who never came back to our table. After sitting for 20 min. as she visited with the wait staff we asked a waiter to get our bill. The manager came out, apologized, and didn't charge us for our drink and food. May try again as the menu looked quite good
Horrible service. Took forever to get our food. No apology....nothing. Food was marginal.
Wow, I'm not a happy camper. They had no heat in the building, did not tell us this until we were seated in a back booth, We asked to be moved closer to the fireplace, which they did. We were fairly warm except for my feet. Cherry in the drink that was ordered was flat and weird
looking like it was very old. Bacon wrapped scallops-the bacon was raw. No one from management came around to see if the guests were OK. I get a better feeling that they appreciate the business from my local Perkins. This is the 2nd time I have been there, and I feel
they need to up their game a little- especially in the making people feel welcome department.
We had the bacon wrapped scallops and walleye. Both were excellent.
The service was friendly, efficient and professional. We will be back often.
