The waitress greeted us but then stated she wasn’t our server. She then came back later and said well I guess I am your server. She didn’t seem very happy about it. There were only 3 other tables being used for sit down dinner. The bar had a fair amount of people around it. Food was only warm. We were there for brunch . I had the steak tips with poached eggs. It was advertised with two different sauces and neither came with it. I had coffee and had to ask for a second cup at the end of the meal when the waitress finally came back. I have been to axels before and the food had always been hot and delicious. The steak was tough. I wouldn’t go back.
Had dinner at Axels for the first time last Saturday night. Ambience was awesome, it was packed house. Server seemed distracted and not really fully engaged with the four of us - she was ok mind you but not great nor provided a personal experience. I ordered the bone in ribeye and was that a disappointment. Didn't know ribeye can be so tough even though it was cooked perfectly. Also it was not salted enough so there was not enough taste to it. I ordered the mushroom side so I kept dipping the meat into that sauce to give it flavor. For $58 dollars that was a big disappointment. I didn't say anything to the waitress as it was a special night out and didn't want to ruin the night for the others in the group. Popovers were great as was the french onion soup. I will try them again, just not the ribeye.
Was out of Miller Lite and ran out of my second choice before a second could be ordered.
Excellent service and food. Nice quiet dinner (mid-week).
The experience was awesome but they really need to invest in some new tables and chairs. The table was not stable at all and the chairs were old and creaky.
Outstanding food. Outstanding service!
come here often. But always on Valentines Day for past 12 years. Food is always great but a little pricey. Our server was outstanding as well as friendly. We wish it was quite so noisy. We will be back often, but for sure on VD.
Never a bad meal at Axels and as always the service was outstanding. I have ordered just abut everything on their menu over the years and can't say a bad thing about anything.
Our steaks were excellent. Our service was attentive and friendly.
My fiancé and I had dinner here for the first time and we absolutely loved everything about our experience! Our waiter was so nice and polite. The food was delicious and the ambience was very welcoming. We loved our experience so much that we’ve decided to have our rehearsal dinner here! 10/10 would recommend!
Was loud when we were there due to a very loud group of women in the room at the end of the bar. The food was excellent! BEST damn walleye I have ever had!
I would recommend Axel's but with reservations. We have eaten at Axel's in Chanhassen for almost 20 years and I must say that the food, which used to be excellent, has slowly declined. The food is still good, but not as good as it used to be. The food at Axels in Mendota Heights (former Parker House) is still excellent, so this must be a local matter. The service continues to be top-notch; our server, Kerry, was great....very attentive and prompt. There are other restaurants that have more consistent food quality at comparable prices; the value is not like it used to be. Specifically on this visit, the tomato basil soup was very tasty, but lukewarm. The risotto was good, but I've had much better at The Cov in Edina. We'll continue to dine at this restaurant because it is convenient, but heed my reservations about our experience.
It was mediocre. Nothing was great except our waitress. She was wonderful.
Had apps. Aliders were delish as was the coconut shrimp. That is always my fav. Not cheap but quality food.
Overbooked their tables for new year's eve. We waited over 45 minutes over our reserved time for 2 people.
Had to wait 30 minutes beyond the reservation time. Very difficult with an elderly person and no where to sit or stand. Axels should have managed their New Years Eve reservations differently as patrons were spending more time dining than a normal night. This should have been taken into account when booking the time slots for reservations!
It was New Year's Eve after all. Extremely crowded for 6:30 pm and very very noisy! We will try again on a different day.
Axel's used to be one of our favorite restaurants, but when they went off OpenTable for a while we had stopped going, then noticing they were back on OpenTable made reservations for NY's Eve. We had requested standard seating which we assumed would be in the dining area but they tried to seat us at a booth in the bar (very noise, very rustic) asked for dining area table and were place by the door which was very crowded and cold with drafts from door opening. Our server for the night was gracious and kind and she was the only bright spot. We ordered Walleye and Prime Rib medium rare Super Club option which was to come with two sides and salad. My prime rib came closer to well done, but gladly was exchanged quickly by our server. The side of asparagus was so "woody" that it was inedible. My "loaded" baked potato was a plain potato with sour cream, chives, and bacon in one of the small au jus cups, hardly "loaded." My wife walleye looked a bit underdone and has a lot of bones. I usually don't write negative reviews because everyone can have a bad night, but this was just too bad to leave alone. Needless to say, we will not be going back to our old favorite anymore.
New Years Eve, so very busy. Pleased we were able to get in. Had the NY Strip and it was cooked perfectly. Waitress recommended the risotto and I regretted it on first bite. Was cold and had an overpowering taste of bell pepper. Asparagus was very woody (granted it is not in season, but take it off the menu then). It was VERY BUSY, but waitress was still attentive.
We enjoyed our dining experience on New Year’s Eve. Our server, Marissa, was excellent! She was attentive, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Loved her!!
We ordered an appetizer of walleye fingers which were hot and good. Three of our party ordered salmon and the fourth got the roast chicken. All were good with one exception: one of the salmons was not fully cooked in the center, and the mashed potatoes were luke warm.
All in all we had a lovely time and enjoyed our stay.
Our 41st anniversary. After the terrible weather, we wanted to celebrate with family very close by. This was the perfect venue. One of our favorite sites for all special occasions.
Food is always a solid 5/5. Never changes. The service was only ok. The server should know where each meal should be placed when it comes out of the kitchen. Servers shouldn’t hold up a plate and announce what it is and wait for someone to claim it! Also servers shouldn’t interrupt conversations. Other than the service, a really great dinner.
Extended Family Dinner
The food is good but the salad, vegetable, and baked potato accompanying the filet were very skimpy for the price..quite disappointing.
They were pretty busy. Dirty plates sat at our table a bit longer that they should have.
Horrible service and food. Sorry to say.
Excellent experience, food was great, service great, we will definitely be back.
Went for lunch, overall was quiet. Had the lunch trio special (soup, salad, and crab cake) and it was really good.
I ordered my steak medium rare and it came out medium well. But the staff took care of it and brought me another one which was fantastic. Even though I didn’t dine with my date (he was finished by the time I got my corrected steak), the staff totally took care of us and the wait was worth it for a great meal.
We were a party of six, and five of the six dinners were in the "wouldn't want to order again" category. The walleye was excellent; the risotto was partially undercooked, partially overcooked, and very pasty throughout; the butternut squash ravioli was tasteless; the filet mignon tough as boot leather (for a filet yet!) and the shrimp with wild rice pilaf was also bland and tasteless. We've eaten at Axel's in Roseville twice before and enjoyed the meals. But on this trip to the Chanhassen restaurant, the food was certainly anywhere near Axel's quality. What happened? New chef that night? No chef that night?
Great dining experience
Very warm and pleasant atmosphere with nice music. Waitress was very sweet. Food was excellent except for the crust on the pumpkin pie. Overall, the food was great though. Would definitely do this again.
Awesome Thanksgiving Dinner!
We had a wonderful time, really enjoyed the food and had a wonderful waitress
Love everything about Axel's Chan. Beautiful; great service; great food; casual dress; sports on tv. A long-time friend and I try to meet there (it's halfway between our homes) several times each year to catch up. The staff allows us time to visit; we never feel rushed.
Always great sevice.
Prime rib was tough and lacked flavor. Service was slow.
Our server Kerry was excellent and we had no complaints on the service. We started with an order of Onion Rings and I would highly recommend them. My wife ordered the Walleye and said it was very good. I ordered the stacked Cobb salad which is entree sized, but did not realize that it is offered now with crab or chicken whereas several (?) years ago it was only offered with crab. The salad came with chicken and our server offered to change it out, but I figured it was my mistake for not noticing and the salad was here along with my wife's entree. I would not make that mistake again. The cubes of chick are dense and dry and make the salad nowhere as good as with crab which adds more moisture to the salad.
