The food and service were excellent! The prices were a bit high but it was still worth it.
Despite having a reservation was placed in the Bar area and told it was the only table available. Noise and people standing around definitely detracted from meal.
Great food! Great experience!
We really enjoyed finding this place.
Grilled sardines were fantastic!!
Two married couples who don’t get together often enough, so not technically a date. I enjoyed everything about the restaurant but it is pricey. I’d go back and I’d recommend it. They do Greek food and fish well (Arctic Char was excellent). Only disappointment was the Saganacki. I guess the days of it being served aflame are over.
Lunch was very good, and our service was excellent. Only item I would note would be that value of what you receive (not quantity based) is a bit overpriced.
We had an amazing experience. Great food, drinks were prompt, nice suggestions and amazing service
Started with the Blue Point oysters and Greek salad. Main course was a whole snapper. Simply fabulous. Highly recommend. Great service.
As always, Avra was terrific. Never disappoints. Only slight drawback is noise level, but the energy is actually fun.
Excellent service, and food. The waiter, Thanasi, was outstanding. From the minute we sat down he was really attentive. His presentation of the available fresh fish for dinner really tells me how well he knows his specials for the night. This is the third time there... I will be returning.
I love this restaurant. One of my favorites.
I travel for work and usually don’t repeat restaurants but Avra is one of the few that I’ve gone to several times. Great food!
I had the Chilean sea bass. It was delightful. I took some home and, believe it or not, it tasted even better the next day! I cannot wait to go back. The fish is so fresh and they way they prepare it with herbs and sauces. It is so tasty. My friend had the halibut, that too was delicious. I also had half lemonade/half ice tea (Arnold Palmer). I do not know what kind of tea they used, but it was one of the best half and half drinks I have had in a while. I do not add sugar and the tea was not strong and bitter like some hot brewed teas. It may have had a touch of mint too. I will definitely get that drink next time I go. Service is prompt too. We had appetizer, entrée, dessert and coffee/tea and got in an out within 90 minutes.
Tables were too close together. The calamari appetizer was chewy and tasteless. However the fish of the day was very good.
Family night dinner , great food , great service
As always, the food was excellent. It took slightly more than 30 minutes to be seated for a 7pm reservation and that is just annoying. Our service was excellent and the bartenders were more than helpful during our wait. However, with all the options available in NY, I don't see any reason to wait for a table on a Thursday night.
Great food and service. Not cheap but worth it
Excellent Mediterranean menu and wine list to include wines from Greece. Vibrant buzz to the point of being so loud it is difficult to hear someone across the table. I enjoy Avra on every visit to NY.
We were placed at a table with other people. We asked to be moved. Original reservation was for three people but one person was delayed. Three different people came to our table to ask us about the delay person.
I come here for business lunches. It is always packed so make sure you make a reservation in time. Noise level is ok, and service friendly and fairly fast. They are best known for their fish dishes, and the grilled octopus is a must-have.
Avra on 48th is one of the best restaurants in Manhattan! The food, the service, and staff are excellent from every aspect! When in town it is our favorite place to dine!
We loved the convivial, warm atmosphere. Nice lighting, cozy decor - even though the restaurant is much larger than you expect, when you walk in. I always appreciate really good bread and salad in a restaurant - it seems to show an attention to detail - and the delicious bread here was served with olives, a bean puree and radishes . Service was good - almost too fast, and I have never had my wine glass filled so often! If you order a fish by the pound (which is how they do it at many estiatorios), it can get really pricey. We ordered off the menu and had a nice dinner. The galaktoboureko for dessert is fabulous!
Visiting from San Diego. Great food, fun restaurant!
I go here for lunch with work on occasion. The fresh seafood is always good. This time I tried in the evening for a date. The food was as expected but when you are just two people they seat you at tables that are so close to one another they might as well be communal. The restaurant has the space to offer something better, i am not sure why they do it this way. As it is I would only go there as a group. It is not appropriate for a date.
I went it for lunch with a colleague and we decided to try the Prix Fixe lunch. Our appetizers were quite good but our bread plates and appetizers were cleared way too quickly. The waiter kept coming over asking if we were done and it made us very uncomfortable. We both ordered larvae (branzino) which had SO many bones we had to stop eating it. In fact, one was caught in my throat and I had to ask for more bread to swallow it because it had been cleared. Do not serve this fish if there are so many small bones as it is dangerous.
Fish is best quality and service is extremely attentive.
Overall, the food was great and service was excellent. Not ideal for business lunch as the noise levels are too high. The lunch menu is much affordable, I feel the dinner prices are too high for this restaurant. If I am paying $300 for two people without wine, I might go to a Daniel Boulud restaurant instead next time.
Food was delicious... the fish is outstanding but you pay a steep price for your meal
The food is always amazing, staff is terrific. I love Avra!
Consistently good food and service. Fish was very fresh
Wonderful to have fresh, well-prepared European seafood — Dorado and Loup de Mer. Great service and attractive, lively ambience. Definitely will be on my list for returns when back in New York.
The service was outstanding and the food was absolutely delicious! Would definitely return for another meal.
Met for a double date and was seated by the window to watch the snow fall. It was beautiful, great venue and great food/drink.
Recommend for sure!
The food is incredible as is the service. I ate there Friday and Saturday. Friday they had the price fix menu a bargain which included an appetizer, main dish and dessert. There were so many options to choose between. I had the pasta with lobster which was what brought me back!
All was well. Food was good. Expensive for what you got. Similar places about 20% cheaper with no loss in quality
Hadn't been to the restaurant in quite a,long time. We found it to be VERY good. .. prompt pleasant and efficient service. ..really well prepared food that was delicious. Will certainly return. Highly recommended
I work near this restaurant and have started to become a regular here for business lunches. When my dad said he was coming into town and was craving seafood I knew this was the perfect place for dinner. We had a small table but the service and food was fantastic. Highly recommend the Avra Chips and the Grilled Calamari to start, and the Halibut as an entree. We topped everything off with the Lava Cake and the Greek Yogurt for dessert. The Greek Yogurt was the most authentic tasting greek yogurt I've ever had in the US. Our server was absolutely awesome and super helpful in helping us choose the perfect options to complete the meal. Will definitely return again very soon!
Food was amazing—as always — but waiter’s service not great. Mostly ignored us, was indifferent when asked where apps were, and never came back to check on table. Was there w clients who noticed and remarked. Very loud at lunch. Summers are better as you can sit outside.
This was the second time for my wife and I and it was even better than the first. The menu is structured to give plenty of choice while working to a 5 course plan. Well paced and the service was attentive without being overbearing. We sat up on the mezzanine level and it creates a great ambiance. Not cheap but so one of our best ever dining experiences.
Always reliably great food, a bit pricey but consistently great.
