Avra Estiatorio on 48th
Book your next event with us
Had to wait 30 minutes for confirmed table. Crowded beyond belief. Terribly noise. Difficult to converse.
Avra Estiatorio is always fabulous. Must try the Moschofilero wine, octopus and sea bass skewers. Enjoy!
All dinner came luke warm, not hot. All taste good, but it would have been an excellent dinner if warm.
Everything was great except the table was right by the door and each time the door was opened we froze...
Service and food were both excellent, as usual - didn’t disappoint
We've been several times. The food is always fresh and delicious. Our server was sincere and friendly supplying all the info we needed. He gave us honest feedback that contributed to us enjoying our meal.
Single person for dinner
Seated quickly but normally need a reservation
Grilled octopus salad - amazing!!
Very loud atmosphere
Arturo is the very best host in New York. Great house Pinot Grigio ‼️‼️‼️
Great evening with delicious food, atmosphere and attentive service.
We were there 2 nights in a row. First night we had a woman server who treated us like she was our Greek mother and we were dining in her home. Had halibut which was fabulous. Next night we had a male server who was polite. Everything seemed just slightly off including the halibut. Still love Avra and highly recommend.
Food as always is amazing. Host staff take themselves very seriously and are pretty rude
One of my NYC favourites, very consistent and everything just right! well done staff.
Outstanding food and service. Branzino special was perfect with a slightly crusted edge and very moist center. A special table request was honored and greatly appreciated. Excellent all around!!
When visiting New York always eat here! The food is So authentic Greek I used to spend my summers in Greece as a child and this is the real deal of the food the service the waiters and all the staff a great highly recommend if you want really good Greek food to come here
Wonderful experience. Great seafood menu. We had a great time
Expensive, but every single dish was fantastic
Avra on 48th was recommended to us by a friend whose opinion we trust. She was right; the food was delicious, the restaurant was beautifully decorated and the experience was great.
Not the best experience I had here due to the food. Lamb chops were so fatty (the pieces they gave us). And the halibut was very dry. Shrimp was great though. Overall, not happy with the price I paid for not so good food.
We enjoyed a great meal at Avra Estiatorio. Maybe because I am not a New Yorker, but prices seemed particularly high to me. Spanikopita was the best I have ever had, anywhere.
Had a wonderful fresh fish that we shared another couple had pasta with lobster. The Greek salad was perfect to share. We had a great time. High noise level but fun.
My wife and I have dined here many times. But never again. We were sat 30 minutes after our reservation time. Once we ordered our drinks, our waiter didn’t come back to our table for 40 minutes, though he was tending to other tables around us.
The table the sat us at was surrounded by people at the bar and I couldn’t even get up to speak with the manager. So I called them from my table. I asked for someone to please come take our order. They thought it was a joke and hung up. I called back and finally someone took me seriously. But the manager didn’t seem to care.
So we finally left.
Overly priced Manhattan restaurant. I was not particularly impressed. Average/good quality that does not justify the bill.
We try to get to Avra every time we come to New York. It is always a wonderful meal, with great service, and wonderful food.
Excellent sardines, much too expensive Greek salad
Fantastic birthday dinner!
Food and service are excellent. Got there a bit early and they were very nice to sit us right away.
Used to live a block away and ate there regularly. I loved it then and on a trip back to New York, I found I still do. A great neighborhood hidden gem.
Always outstanding service and wonderful food. The langoustines are spectacular. They also have a giant shrimp that is beyond description. It is bigger than some lobster tails. Everything is prepared to perfection and the service is right on top of everything.
Enjoyable visit to Avra for dinner with friends. Food was very good but not exceptional. Chilean Sea Bass souvlaki app was great as were the Sardines. Service was good but not commensurate with a $400 check before tip. We opted for a MP fish that was $60/lb and ended up at $250 for 4 ppl. Portions were decent but a heads up on the MP would have been nice. It wasn’t as tasty as i would have expected and border line bland. Overall we’d go back but will be cautious about asking Market Price in advance and stick to some of the menu entree staples.
Food was great but service was slow and unattentive. Our waiter spent most of his time chatting with colleagues even though the restaurant was empty and we were waiting for the check. There was also a very noisy table next to us that had half its customers standing up and talking really loudly like they were in a bar. But the staff did nothing to stop them and simply watched them. The noise was unbearable and they were leaning on our chair/table while we were trying to have dinner. I could not have a proper conversation at all. Most unpleasant.
The food is very good. Very crowded and loud. Table service was ok but the maitre’d seemed bored and annoyed. Not helpful or considerate.
Service for the wine was extremely Slow. Had to wait almost 15 minutes to have our wine order taken and another 25 minutes before it was served. Not sure what happened as tbey we’re not busy when we arrived
It pains me to give only two stars. The food and ambiance was great. However, the waitress was so inept, it was almost hilarious. Except it ruined the dining experience.
She was physically a tall, beautiful blonde person with no skills. Each course was an adventure, and a disappointing one. She talked us out of ordering a salad for each of us (two) because they were so large. The salad was not extra large. We asked for a hummus refill. It never came. She eliminated a portion of the entre, French fries, because I ordered a spinach side. When asked about it she said my side would be 'free', because she didn't bring the fries. Not what I wanted.
When we paid with a debit card, my wife got a fraud alert text from the bank. Our waitress returned to the table and wanted my wife's pin number for the card. Of course we didn't give it to her. My wife went in the back to work with another staff person to clear the account and pay the bill.
It was like working with a waitress with the appearance of a model and the brain of Curly Howard of Three Stooges fame. As Curly says, "I keep thinkin' and thinkin' and nuttin' happens".
Great meal for a pre-theatre show. Enjoyed the ambiance and the service. However the fresh fish stood out as being out of this world. Other things on the menu are nice. But the fresh fish options - which are on display are fantastic.
Always great food and service!
it has been a very good restaurant ; i went back after several years
very espensive , 2 small salad almost $ 50
poor service , very noise , fair food
i will never go back , there better greek restaurants
Prices were extremely expensive for what we were served. Quality of the food was very good. The noise level was very high thankfully we were seated in the back where it was not as loud. Overall thought it was a very good restaurant, but the food and experience not measure up to the prices on the menu. Also we ordered two side dishes of vegetables that were never delivered for a table. We realized this as we were leaving the restaurant and when we spoke with Manager, were told that he could not issue a refund for this $26 we paid for the food we never received. We are still in the waiting process to be reimbursed this money. We found this very odd that he could not refund our credit card $26 after the check had been closed out. This was a turn off for us.
Great service and amazing food. Next time just ordering small plates! Everything I ordered was plant based and delicious.
Our waitress was on POINT. Bus service a little too overzealous however.
