AVEO Table + Bar at the Monarch Beach Resort Ratings and Reviews
Absolutely awful service! We came for Sunday brunch. We waited an hour to order, had to ask 5 waiters to take an order. Then we had to wait another hour for food to arrive. They tried to explain that they had too many orders, which I find hard to believe, because by the time our food arrived we were they only ones sitting outside. They didn't even bother to apologize.
I treated a good friend here to lunch for her birthday, and we were really glad we chose Aveo. Self-parking was easy and is free with validation (as is valet parking). We were warmly greeted and given a patio table (as requested when we made our reservation) with a nice view to the hotel grounds, golf course and Pacific Ocean in the back ground. The service was very friendly, and our server was knowledgeable about the food and wine choices. My friend is a burger connoisseur, and she enjoyed her Californian bacon burger. I had the fish special, which was cooked to perfection. The server took into consideration my gluten sensitivity and provided us a gluten-free birthday dessert to share. This was our first time at this restaurant, and we look forward to dining here again. Thank you, especially to the warm and friendly Aveo and resort staff for making us feel welcome.
The menu was minimal, yet offered a variety of choices that were well prepared and presented. The crabs cakes were moist and tasty as an appetizer, while the octopus was slightly dry. The bass was delicious, although there could have been less potatoes and more greens.
While the backlava for dessert was refreshing, it had no phyllo dough.
The service was excellent and the setting was beautiful.
We love Aveo and come often. This trip we had a reservation, asked for a seat outside, which took some coaxing. We also asked for a balcony view seat, which they said they were full and tables were reserved. No one sat at those tables for the 2 hours we were there. We enjoy the brunch buffet, many choices. We love the service, and the buffet attendants - all extremely nice and helpful. This trip Barbara and Nikolas (aka Gordon) were especially nice...and our server Kelly was top notch as always. Work on the hostess staff Aveo - and you have 100%.
Great location on the patio of Monarch Beach Resort. Inside/outside seating, bar has TVs tuned to various sports. Portable heaters outside keep you warm. Food is very good, but service was very slow to the point where we thought they forgot us. Don't let that deter you, it's a nice evening!
We were at a business event in the hotel last weekend, and on Sunday we wandered up to Aveo for lunch. When we went in and asked for a lunch menu, the hostess said only brunch was available but there were both lunch and breakfast items (we'd already had breakfast). We were seated, and nothing was said about the cost nor did I see any indication at the hostess station. Needless to say, we were shocked to see it was about $75 per person!!! While the food was good, that's an outrageous charge for basically eating lunch and should have been disclosed up front.
This is our second year dining at this restaurant, and our experience was just as horrible as last year. We had a reservation for 5 people, at 7:30 and didn't get our food until 9. Never mind the fact that the restaurant was not busy. They told us 3 times within a 15 minute period that our food was being plated. Our server hardly checked on us, but was polite. They have great management staff that tried to make our experience better, but unfortunately, we will not be back next year. Such a shame too, great atmosphere and food.
Staying at the Monarch Beach Resort for the Labor Day weekend, we ate at Aveo on Sunday evening . In a nut shell, the service and atmosphere were unbearable, however the food was excellent. We could not believe how wonderful the dishes we ordered were juxtaposed against the poor dining experience.
For our 7:15 p.m. reservation, we were seated immediately. The vocalist just started performing in the connected bar area. The volume was excessively loud and we commented on that. The hostess had the microphone volume turned down within a few minutes of our request. So far so good. However we were seated at a table near the patio door. All wait staff came and went by our table though that door nonstop making us feel like we were in Grand Central Station. We asked for another table but were told that were all taken.
We waited at our table for 15 minutes before we were given any attention. Finally the busboy came by to take our drink order and bring us water. After another 10 minutes without any attention our busboy, Yair simply took our dinner order. We could tell he was taking the initiative to serve us since our waiter was complete nonexistent. We appreciated this responsiveness. Just before our food was delivered, a waiter named Marco came by and asked what we wanted to drink as if we had just arrived in his section. We told him we we all cared for by Yair and there was nothing we needed from him. He gave us no apology but told us he would be handling us from here on out. Not sure what was going on with the restaurant that night but the service suffered enormously. Meanwhile the restaurant was extremely noisy with small children. We were with our teen-aged daughter and understand how noisy children can be, but this was unbearable. Later we found out from the front desk staff that the holidays are always like this.
All in all, if you go the Aveo don't go on a busy holiday weekend. You'll love the food if your waitstaff can rise to the challenge.
It was the 1st time I have been to the Aveo and I was very happy with the experience. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend the Aveo for celebrating a special occasion with a group. The only con, if I had to give one, was that the meals were on the pricey side but everyone enjoyed their meal emensley. I will definitely return.
Shefali, the extraordinary polite and caring host was very hard to top with a consistent but never overwhelming presence. Agathe, an even more desirable host who was not only remarkbly friendly and courteous, made every waiter or barmen, obsolete. Not every bar or restaurant is the same, at least to me. Jose, a not too old not too young, very professional barman, made the night in fact ... unforgettable. Thank you Jose, Thank You Shefali, and Thank you Agathe. Because of you, I will always come back to this place.
The food was quite good both in terms of quality and taste. I found the service to be substandard; at various times I had to ask for silverware, water, champagne, cream, more coffee etc. I understand that when it comes to service there is a continuum between feeling ignored to feeling intruded upon. This experience was definitely closer to the former.
A bit on the pricey side - since it's located in the Monarch Beach Resort. But, the service is excellent. The view (sunset) is quite nice. The setting sun might be a bit too bright for some. The restaurant in very casual, but the prices are more towards the 'fine dining' side. Happy hour is a good bargain.
We dined here twice while staying at the Monarch Beach Resort. The breakfast buffet was great and had the usual breakfast basics including an omelet station. Service was great and food quality was excellent. And, at $80 for two for breakfast it should be. We also enjoyed dinner on the patio. Food quality was outstanding! I had an arugula and apple salad with salmon added and it was fantastic. My wife had a chicken and rice dinner and it was good as well. My only complaint were the wild hyenas (packs of kids) that were running at large the entire dinner. I can honestly say this is not the"fault" of Aveo, but instead of the parents with the "kids will be kids" attitude at a nice restaurant. Go to here for a nice meal with the potential of a great atmosphere watching sunsets.
The ambiance is wonderful! Great views of the golf course and ocean and we were really lucky with a beautiful sunset! The service was great but the food was lackluster at best. The only thing we enjoyed was the calamari appetizer. We do live locally and unfortunately this has been a theme at many of the restaurants we have tried. They seem to keep the level of food geared towards tourists so they don't try to hard to make a lasting exceptional or even attempt to strive for quality food.
The food was wonderful, a very nice selection of items, the favorite seemed to be the Lobster Rissoto, the prime rib and the Chorizo hash. Our server was very attentive but not intrusive. We had a very nice spot in a quiet corner, unfortunate the table and a couple of the chairs were wobbly therefore you had to be very careful when cutting anything on your plate so the drinks wouldn't spill. The Hotel lobby itself was unimpressive and the stairway leading down to Aveo looked worn and tired with snagged carpet.
It's a great neighborhood restaurant, that has a casual vibe to it. It's located inside the Monarch Beach Resort (formerly St. Regis). The service is excellent, although their knowlege of the menu is a bit lacking. I would say that the quality of the food is very good, but not up to my expectations of a resort of this caliber. I would be going back for the convenience - near Monarch Beach Golf Links. But, I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here. I must say that the view (off the rear balcony) is amazing. Time your evening visit for sunset.
It's the more casual of the 2 restaurants located inside the Monarch Beach Resort. Food is above average. Service / staff is great - as should be for a resort of this caliber. But I find that this place has a 'confusing atmosphere' - it wants to be a 'dining establishment' of the resort, but patrons can walk in from the pool (in swimwear) and dine here. That kind of takes the 'date vibe' out of this place.
The behavior of the hostess was off-putting and spoiled what should have been a delightful experience. In spite of having a reservation for 5:30 PM, she insisted that we must eat outdoors on a chilly terrace because they were expecting a large crowd later (which didn't materialize during our visit). She finally gave us a table indoors in a largely empty restaurant. The whole thing didn't make sense.
After that unpleasant beginning, we had very good service and a delicious meal. I feel the wine is overpriced, compared to other restaurants of this calibre.
We live near this resort and took friends here for breakfast. We chose to dine outside dispose the "June gloom" weather. The fire pit kept us warm and did not need the added heater that was offered. All staff were exceedingly polite and accommodating and prompt. Absolutley experienced wonderful treatment. The food was delicious with a nice presentation. This is a gem of a spot!
We asked to be seated outside. There were plenty of outdoor tables still open. However, the woman chose to seat us behind a party of 12 with no view. We then had to ask to be moved to a table with a better view. She explained that she put us behind the other party because she couldn't see on her computer where the other parties were seated. We then noticed she seated an older couple at the good outdoor table right away without them having to request. We felt we were initially placed at a worse table because of our age.
The waiter offered bread and water. We said yes to both and he only brought the water. We had to request the bread again an hour into the meal. We are assuming he forgot.
When the check came the waiter dropped it off then walked away. We ended up being charged for a dessert item we never ordered. The waiter ended up charging us for a dessert ordered by a table of two girls near us, whom he was friends with. I tried to get someone's attention to get us a new check for 15 min before someone noticed to come back.
We were highly disappointed.
Sunday Brunch menu is delicious. If you are looking for a quiet place to dine this is not the place. Would recommend dining outside and arrive early. The service for beverage items is excellent. This is a self
Service brunch with omelets made to order, fresh fruit and many delicious items. Give this place a try to experience delicious food and experience.
We dined here on 5-23-17. Marco was an excellent waiter. He brought my wife sparkling cider without us asking - she couldn't drink alcohol since she is pregnant - very nice of him. All the servers were very attentive and our water glasses were never empty. Great food and a nice ambience.
Food took 1 1/2 hours to get to our table. Both manager and waitress were not apologetic and didn't offer to comp or remove anything from the bill. We were dining here for our 1st anniversary and were trying to make the most of it but how long we had to wait was so disappointing. The food was very mediocre. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
My Fiance' had the pumpkin gnocchi in carbonara sauce and I had the Swordfish. Best Swordfish I ever had! The Gnocchi were phenomenal as well. We split a mushroom risotto and no surprise they there delicious as well. Would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who likes fine coastal dining.
