We arrived for dinner at 8p with 4 people. We sat down right away as there was no wait. We ordered the octopus which was ok, the escargot which was quite bland and the tuna tartare which was good but not great. We did not all receive our main course at the same time. We waited about 10 min for the last person to receive their plate. We flagged down one of the servers about the issue and when the female runner brought the plate down she did not apologize about the wait and seemed to have an attitude. As people who work in the restaurant industry, this is unacceptable. For dessert we ordered the carrot cake and the pot of creme which were good. Our server Ljubica was very pleasant, accommodating and answered our questions about the menu. Our overall experience was just ok. We all agreed that the meal and the experience was not worth the price. ($471)
Very nice casual dining or evening out. Very good seafood selection. We had oysters, onion soup and escargot to start. The soup was too sweet and the escargot lacked seasoning. For the main course trout almondine and black cod. Both were excellent. Service was steady throughout the evening.
Tried Avenue for dinner during Restaurant Week......Beautiful restaurant overlooking the water, good service, semi-quiet with tables spaced apart. Octopus salad and beet salad were generous and delicious. The Bronzino filet and Beef Bourguignon were nicely prepared, and tasty. Overall a positive experience and nice for a celebration.
Avenue is always excellent - service and food is consistent . Great me u , a lot of choices
Great happy hour and had NJRW menu, which was great too!
We have been coming to Avenue for a couple of years. We came today with my kids and my Mom. The service was excellent as usual. Very pleasant welcome, we were seated by the window as requested. Our waters were filled and refilled quickly. Wait staff were lovely.
We have always had great escargots and oysters as appetizers so we ordered those along with a Pissaladiere (puff pastry base with arugula, goat cheese, anchovy and olives. The oysters were really good - small, fresh, tender and very briny. The escargots (my favorite) were really strange - so strange we couldn’t eat them. My Mom and I have been eating snails for years. We love them - got hooked on them during my childhood in Europe. But these were odd. In fairness to the chef, he tried them after we sent them back and re-did them and sent them out. They tasted very odd again. I think we figured out why - every time we’ve had them and loved them they’ve been swimming in wonderful, salty French butter full of soft, cooked crushed garlic and fresh parsley. All of those ingredients were missing - there was lots of bubbling butter but it was unsalted so the very earthy snail flavor was much more dominant than usual and I’m afraid it was too odd to our unaccustomed palates. Lobster was fine. Nothing to write home about. Same with the pastry.
For entrees my Mom said the quiche Lorraine was excellent - very tasty and accompanied by a lovely salad. One son had the brioche French toast - excellent. The other had the chicken sandwich which he said was good. I had the steak and eggs. It was cooked well but the flank steak, which is a cheaper, tougher cut was quite tough but flavorful. It would have been better if it had been a thinner cut. The breakfast potatoes were great. My husband had t th he croque madame which was good. The fries are excellent. Almost worth going for the fries alone. But the Mac and cheese side is totally devoid of flavor- like they made the bechamel and accidentally left out the cheese.
This is my second time dining at Avenue and I look forward to the next! The entire dining experience was fabulous!
Avenue never disappointments. A wonderful oceanfront restaurant that is always a pleasure to dine at. Food, service, ambiance - the best.
We enjoy it more after the summer always great service and very good good
Excellentbplacevto enjoy a beautiful evening. Would go over and over
WE ENJOYED OUR RESTAURANT WEEK SELECTIONS. WE ALSO GOT DRINKS THAT WERE EXCELLENT.
Excellent food and beautiful surroundings. Great service.
My wife and I came in for our anniversary and Avenue did not disappoint. The food was excellent as always. Our server Alexei did a phenomenal job, attentive without straying into obtrusive. And, even though it was restaurant week and some places pay less attention during the discounted periods, we felt just as important as those around us spending more. Top notch.
A real gem. The menu is perfect, with creative presentations and great wine selections. Yes, parking is terrible in-season, this restaurant is the best in the neighborhood, even if it lives in the shadow of behemoths on the boardwalk.
Avenue is a real pleasure. It is beautiful and warm, the service is excellent and the food is great in terms of choices, taste and presentation. We thoroughly enjoyed it. It is not cheap. $9 for a bottle of sparkling water is excessive. Entree prices are market.
Despite the restaurant not being busy we had to wait quite awhile for our food to be served. This is not usual service which has always been excellent. Maybe just an off day
Excellent food, terrific service, hip music in a well-designed eating space. And, how wonderful to look out on the ocean inside a space warmed by a large roaring warm fireplace!
I enjoyed a wonderful lunch with my sister and mother. The lunch selections were varied and the special soup and half sandwich was super - A bowl of tomato soup (excellent) and a steak sandwich with sauteed onions and gruyere cheese on toasted ciabatta was just the right size for lunch. Our server was attentive without being overbearing. I will return again soon!
Our server Carmine was outstanding... great service.
A great experience. Will definitely be back
Thanks so much
Great dinner with very professional service
It’s even better after the summer
This restaurant is like a quick vacation to the coast of France. No jet lag, no dictionary. Just a quick culinary vacation to France. Enjoy!
Always great food and service!!
Food and service were great as usual
Very limited menu. Food was good but grossly over priced. Seven dollars per shrimp. They actually wanted to charge me for a pickle. Absurd! Our waitress was embarrassed to tell us. She was excellent however.
Had a salad with grilled shrimp, tasted great, plus the ocean views are outstanding!!
The prix-fix menu was very affordable and the portions were just right.
Food was delicious
Excellent food in a stunning setting right on the ocean. Reasonably priced.
We love eating in Avenue, great ambience great food, the place has a very good vibe
Limited options in Long Branch so Avenue is one of the better choices (Sirena is the other). While we were dining a middle-age couple decided to sit by the fireplace and were deeply displaying their affection for one another (although I must say the lady seemed more like a reluctant participant). The staff or management did nothing to stop this awkward situation. We paid and left.
Very nice place to take someone special. Great ocean views, nice location. Vibrant surrounding and good entertainment outside the restaurant. No dissapointments!
It was a beautiful day to sit outside with views of the ocean. Food was served attractively and tasted very good.
Went here to celebrate a birthday... The decor and location are beautiful but we all collectively expected the food to be better and the service to be more prompt/professional, especially on a weeknight...
Have been going to the Avenue for the past several years.
The food has always been tasty and well prepared.
The staff are always courteous and very professional.
We will be going to the Avenue on our date nites and when we entertain guests..
Dress code, smart casual.you must be kidding. People in old, soiled tee shirts. Many of them looked
a bit unclean. However if they can afford to eat in the Avenue you overlook Smart Casual.
Really nice brunch , outside overlooking the beach...
From start to finish, everything was bad. Bartender had an attitude.we should have left. Service was slow food was cold, manager apologized, but didn’t mean it. Comped a tiny drink and then charged us for it. Needless to say we will never go back. Bathrooms were filthy. Our special occasion turned out to be a major disappointment.
slow service. Sat outside. Loud music from wedding upstairs. We’re not offered desert or coffee. Won’t be back.
My favorite restaurant year round. Delicious food. Great drinks. Beautiful view of ocean. Gorgeous and trendy inside⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We were sat at 6:05 PM of our 6:00PM reservation.
No waiter or waitress came by our table until we asked for one.
Placed our order at approximately 6:17 PM.
Both wine glasses were covered in lint from the drying towel. Wine was sent back and returned in clean glasses
We noticed every other table had a bread basket but we were never offered any bread nor was any brought to our table. We politely asked for a basket of bread
Appetizers arrive promptly a few minutes past 6:30 PM
Appetizers were average at best - Shrimp cocktail were below average. Not fresh at all
At approximately 7PM we noticed that our main courses had not come out. Now 7:15pm, just shy of an hour since our order was taken and still our main courses had no been brought out.
We then ask for a manager and explain that our wine glasses were covered in lint, no bread was offered or brought to the table and it has been over an hour since our order was taken and we still do not have our entrees. (Our entrees were a skirt steak, a salad and a side of vegetables)
The manager exclaims, "I'm sorry for the delay but we are busy. If we had known you were in a rush we would of asked the kitchen to expedite your meal." He explained that our food was just now being cooked (over 1 hour since the ticket went in to the kitchen).
I explained to the manager that we were not in a rush and that it is outlandish to expect a table of two to wait over an hour for entrees to come out. Nothing complex was ordered that would exceed the normal wait time for an entree to be cooked. This is on top of the numerous issues we had prior. He abruptly apologizes and walks away. He had zero consideration for the lack luster service and poorly trained staff.
Once the food arrived, it was as poor as the service. The steak was dry and overcooked. The "exotic mushrooms" looked like black tar from the street and were even more overcooked than the steak.
If you want rude & poor service, overcooked food, avenue is your place!
