Avanti Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful decor and lighting and always a great place to bring out of state guests.
The Lasagna, the Seafood Risotto, and the Fish Special were outstanding. Our waiter was
very knowledgeable and explained in detail the preparation and ingredients in
Our experience at Avanti was excellent. We were greeted by the owner and seated at a lovely table. My cabernet was delightful and the pour was generous. We both decided on one of the specials, a rib-eye with shrimp and vegetables, it was so delicious! Steaks were cooked to perfection. I was in the mood for dessert but my friend was not, I took the amaretto cheesecake to go. OMG, HEAVEN! I wish I had ordered two pieces. Will look forward to a return visit soon.
If you are looking for old school New York italian this is it and perhaps only it in Phoenix
Still serves reals Dover solve filleted tableside
Only restaurant with balls to make real carbonara instead of trying to pass off Alfredo as the real thing
Has not changed in 30 years
Will continue to come again
Decided to try Avante for our anniversary dinner. Did indicate when making reservations that it was an anniversary dinner (as well as celebrating other things). We arrived about 7 minutes early and the owner, I'm guessing, immediately sat us down. However, no menus were given to us. We figured a server would provide menus when we're greeted. Someone brought water, then a basket of warm bread, but no menus. We sat some more, checked out the décor, ate some of the bread, and wondered if we needed to get the menus ourselves. I finally flagged someone if we can have menus.
Once we had menus, we finally received service. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. He made some suggestions that turned out to be great, such as the Involtini of Eggplant appetizer and Ossobuco Milanese as one of the entrees. My guy said the eggplant had a nice flavor to it, but he wouldn't care to order it again. He loved the Ossobuco though. I tried a bite, it was rich with flavor and the meat was moist. I ordered salmon encrusted with herbed parmesan. That was a nice dish as well.
At the end of our meal, there was no mention of our anniversary, nor was a dessert offered to celebrate our anniversary. We ordered desserts anyway. He had the cannoli, I chose Amaretto cheesecake. Both were sweet and delicious. I couldn't finish mine, I was so stuffed. He ordered coffee too, then regretted having it after seeing how much it was on bill.
We both decided that our dinner selections were very good, and wouldn't mind coming back again, but this time bring our parents as they may enjoy the black and white retro décor and ambiance. Other than the 20 minute lull in the beginning and no one acknowledged our anniversary, overall it was a good dining experience.
Everything about the restaurant is excellent. I l liked it that they pour a good drink. ( too often restaurant's try to stiff you on drinks, but not here). Also the service was top notch, admittedly the food was expensive, but superb. It's the perfect restaurant for a romantic or special occasion dinner. I also enjoyed the nightly piano with just the right touch. I definitely recommend this place.
W have been coming for a number of years, and brought friends for the 1st time. We just thought things were off this time & very disappointed. Also seems like pasta prices increased & perhaps should include a cup of soup or salad with the pasta. We thought it was pricey for the food. Will not rush back. We drive 45 min. to get to the restaurant, and felt something is missing.
I loved everything about Avanti. Walked through the front door with great expectations and was not disappointed. The service was impeccable, the cuisine spot on (amazing carpaccio, bright salad, superb Osso Buco, fresh cannoli), the wine list is diverse without being intimidating, and the espresso and Licor 43 after dinner was the perfect way to end the meal. My server was knowledgeable and professional. It was a perfect experience.
Food and service was awesome but dinning room was dated. Surprisingly empty for a Saturday night but the linguini and clams was one of the best I have ever had. I would put it against some of the best Italian in NYC. As long as it’s all about the food then this is the place for you!
I was shocked when I got the bill! Over $300.00 for dinner for two of us. After checking over the bill, I realized I was charged for an additional eight drinks@ $10.00 each. that we never received. Upon looking closer I realized I was also charged for two bottles of wine @$68.00 a bottle when in fact we only had ordered one bottle! After arriving we request a booth, which they seated us in, order drinks and were brought menus. Had a couple of drinks the waiter kept rushing us to order but we weren't ready to order so they took our menus. When we asked for them back a little later ,the waiter brought them and when we opened them up and NO MEMU inside!
A local favorite since 1974 for all the right reasons. Elegant yet comfortable atmosphere, old school service, and best of all, a unique menu consisting of mouthwatering Italian cuisine. I am a native of Phoenix, remember dining there since I was a kid, and the quality of food and service is truly "distinctive."
I started out with a Kettle One martini straight up to accompany the Osetra caviar (pricey, but worth every penny). My wife ordered the escargot - a item that's been on the menu for years - and loved every morsel. We shared the Cesar salad that was made from scratch, and for my entree, the owner recommended the pounded and lightly battered bone-in veal chop, and for good reason. It was crispy and fork tender with a unique blend of spices that reminded me of my favorite trattoria in Italy.
Avanti is a must try for those who appreciate truly authentic Italian cuisine in a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere that seems to be lost in today's local cookie-cutter establishments. To me, Avanti is the Italian version of Durants; a treasured Phoenix gem that makes you keep coming back for more.
Chef stepped in to recommend lunch option for me. Good suggestion. Very tasty. My friend had asked for chicken on his salad and got salmon. Despite the surprise, he liked it. We both liked the place despite the unusual service. It was nice to meet the chef. He was super friendly and eager to please.
Went based on the recommendation of a friend. We were a bit early for our reservation Friday night, yet we were promptly seated. The waitstaff, headed by our waiter, Andrew, were all outstanding throughout the evening. They were patient with the fact that we had a bit of a schedule, and were very accommodating to that. At the end of the meal, the owner walked us out to our cars, and couldn't have been more gracious. We will be back, and not infrequently.
Have been going to Avanti for years, and it's always good (classic Italian food, with pasta much better than any I've had in Italy!), but this time was particularly great--possibly because of refinements in the menu (the re-make of their classic Benito salad is wonderful) or because of the excellent Brunello di Montalcino Ruffino that accompanied the meal.
