The food was delicious but it was way too noisy in there. That is my only complaint.
We have enjoyed Autre Monde many times in the past for brunch but were disappointed for many reasons on this visit. It was Mother's Day and they only offered a prix fixe menu for $40. The first I learned of that was when we were seated and given menus. I thought this should have been communicated when making reservations. (Although I first made reservations on Open Table, I called to change the reservation from 5 to 6 and spoke to someone who mentioned nothing about the special menu.) What I thought would be about a $200 brunch for 6 people quickly added up to over $400. The restaurant was busy (as expected) but our service was BAD! We were seated on the back patio in an enclosed area, which was hot! We were seated for 20 minutes before anyone approached our table. Eventually we got our drinks and placed our order but had to ask for more water on 3 separate occasions (they put one bottle on our table for 6 people and no one noticed that it was empty--3 times). 5 of us got steak and eggs, with eggs cooked different ways. Everyone ordered medium rare but one person ordered medium. All the steaks were cooked differently. 2 people traded steaks with each other to get it cooked how they wanted it. On the menu, the eggs were offered sunny side up, which I don't like, so I asked for over medium eggs. They were severely overcooked, brown and rubbery with hard yolks. When I asked for over medium eggs, they insisted on taking my whole plate, rather than just bringing me new eggs. Also, they totally forgot about my daughter's entree, and it took so long to get the attention of the waiter to notify him that most of us were finished eating by the time she got her food. It was clear that unless we flagged him down, she never would have gotten her food. Her salmon benedict was supposed to have caviar on it, which it didn't. I called a couple of days after our visit to talk to a manager and left a message but never received a return call. We will not be back.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!! Wonderful food, great customer service!!!
I’ve eaten here several times over the past few years. Usually always a great experience. Not this time. Very poor service. Or waiter was on overload and seemed to just give up. Noise level almost unbearable. I’ve taken them off my future restaurant list.
Been there many times, food was particularly exceptional last time.
Good ambience. Good service. The vegetable offerings are good but just that. They may be vegetarian safe but they are not vegetarian friendly.
My wife is a vegetarian and roasted red peppers or eggplant are some of the most reviled vegetables I know of.
On the other hand I had the steak frites. The crust and the green pepper sauce were very good but the steak itself was a flat iron steak and while good was not impressive.
My review is slightly colored due to my wife's experience and I encourage you to visit and form your own opinion.
But one of the other things that affected my opinion were the differences between the menu online and the menu in house.
Things like the fact that on line there is no mention of chorizo in the piquillo. Neat idea for carnivores serving them stuffed pepper style with chorizo.
But looking for a vegetarian, piquillo or shishito are a mainstay appetizer. You should probably mention the chorizo in your online menu. And this was just one of several little things we encountered.
Overall nice place and I wish them well but my wife and I probably won't be returning.
It was crowded and noisy the Saturday I was there.
There were folks at 3 or 4 table the Wednesday I was there
so that evening was quiet and better for conversation.
Both times, the food was spectacular!
Celebrating a birthday with friends who had never been to AM before so we opted for the tasting menu and it was fabulous.
It’s such an amazing value and even as regulars forces us to try new and great food we usually miss. The stuffed peppers with chorizo, lamb sausage with vegetables and salmon special were the standouts but we enjoyed all the courses while working through a few bottles of wine.
Autre Monde never disappoints! My sister was in town for a few days, and we wanted a light meal accompanied by yummy cocktails. That's exactly what we got, in a friendly, easy atmosphere.
Love this place! Been a couple of times and had a great experience and great food on both occasions.
Excellent food, wonderful staff. When tables are pretty full, conversation can be difficult because the acoustics do not absorb sound well.
Nothing really negative but nothing really great!
$50 for lunch with ONE beignets to split as appetizer. No drinks just coffee. Neither one of would order our entrees again. Missing something special for that caliber of restaurant.
Service from the owner and staff was EXCEPTIONAL! Food was also EXCEPTIONAL! Left feeling crazy impressed.
We went for my husband's birthday. Not many people there which was nice for us - not noisy or rushed. We did the tasting menu and we got just about everything we would have ordered ourselves. The bacalao was a standout as was the duck sausage flatbread. It was very relaxing and very filling. We were happy with the service as well. It do recommend it for a nice special occasion.
Love going here. The food is great, and the staff always make us feel special.
Great good and service. Very close quarters between tables and very loud on a Saturday night.
Really good food. Great drinks.
Had to wait for service at times, was very busy.
Overall we enjoyed it quite a bit.
Great veg tagine, flatbread and polenta! Kind hosts and waitstaff and management as well.
Yummy food. Maybe more flair on risotto? It was delicious but visually it looked like baby blurp! Adorable waitress and support service was great. Almost there!
We had heard this place was amazing for while now and finally got a chance to try it. We were NOT disappointed. Every plate was different and tasty. The service was casual an on point. Our new favorite spot? Can't wait to go back!
Great food and service. Bacon date flatbread was amazing!
This restaurant never disappoints!
Derish. We had several small plates. Beets-amazing. Shrimp/prawns. Good . Note, shrimp heads with fat included, unusual but very good. Octupus-Cooked well. Maybe the dressing was a little to acidic for me.
1/2 chicken - out of this world. Served in a bowl . At the bottom, mashed potats swimming in juice from the chicken. Bomb crust to the check, tender and delish on the inside. Would go back for this. Companions had sea bass which looked great. They said it tasted as good as it looked.
I did not drink but companions said wine was very good, a french chard.
Service, not their fault, but we were not in the mood for sharing plates, which is what they are known for. But they dealt.
This is close to us so we will probably go again soon. The trip from the city is not to bad (our friends said)_ and they said they would come again for sure.
The food and service were both excellent! We were there on a busy night and it was so loud that we couldn't hear each other from across the table.
I have been to Autre Monde maybe 10 times and always enjoy it. I usually have the tasting menu. This visit was the first time that the tasting menu disappointed me a bit -- it was delicious, but somehow lacked the interest and variety of past visits --- just a little below my expectations --- but I'll be back!
This has been one of our favorite restaurants but this visit was lacking in service and not real thrilled with our menu choices. We both ordered the special pistachio ricotta salad of the day which our server mentioned as a special but if she would have told us it was a pickled veggies salad, we would certainly have skipped that. The pork belly appetizer was over cooked but the veal meatball was very good. We would have spoken to the server about the disappointing items ordered but she was not around until my husband’s second glass of wine finally showed up when another person came by with our check. We’ll probably come back another time after we give Autre Monde a bit of a hiatus.
Autre Monde is worth the hassle of getting there, which for us is a hassle requiring taking the Eisenhower. You won’t be disappointed. The cuisine is Mediterranean small plates, and the chef, who I understand came from Spiaggia, changes up the menu seasonally so there’s always something new on the menu to get excited about. Try the duck sausage flat bread. Yummm
We came early evening on a Sunday so it was quieter. My friend and I were eating small plates. Everything was delicious. Flatbread, beets and goat cheese and grilled octopus. I am so happy to have such a great restaurant in my town.
The cocktails were very well executed. We ordered 4 different dishes 3 out of 4 were great. The shrimp with the polenta was a throw away dish. We are plaining a second trip already.
It was a small birthday dinner. We ordered the hummus/ pita, pork belly, octopus, shrimp cakes and for the big plates we ordered the pork porter and steak frites.. everything was soo delicious and you can tell the chef puts a lot of thought and care with the ingredients.... we had the lemon cheesecake and sorbet that had champagne and pear. Dessert was perfect and not too sweet. Co-worker recommended this place and this is now my new favorite restaurant. I’m coming back!! Also ordered the cocktail drink that had mezcal and something fruity and orange... it was not too sweet or strong which I like.
We have an amazing time always at Autre Monde. The food is fantastic and the drinks are fun.
My wife is allergic to dairy and was almost served the wrong entree which had cheese in it. The waitress was very responsive though but someone else put the wrong dish on the table. The place was crowded and noisy on Valentine's night. We were conversationally challenged. The steak was very flavorful though, but the fries were nothing special. The hummus was good. The table we had was very small and they had to move a lot of stuff around to fit the plates. I've been here before in the summer for brunch in the patio, and that was a more enjoyable experience. I probably won't come here in the winter anymore.
Wonderful food, service and ambiance.
Great food and lots of energy in the room.
This is our favorite local restaurant. Food, wine always phenomenal. We love this place!
Autre Monde is the kind of place I'm glad we can find in the western suburbs. Interesting takes on small dishes. Not everything was a home run, but the effort was appreciated. The pintxos were very good: duck breast, pork belly. The grilled octopus was tender and tasty, and the duck sausage flatbread worked well. The gnocchi was also interesting. The only real disappointment was the cassoulet. We enjoyed the flavor, but the beans were oddly undercooked (not velvety like a traditional cassoulet). We stuck to small plates given the smaller appetites of some in our party. It's definitely worth a return trip. Restaurants like Autre Monde need local support, and this one earns it.
As always, incredible food, warm atmosphere and great wine list. My only gripe was that during this particular visit many of the red wine by the glass offerings were not available and the substitutes were not on par. The Maryland Pinot was too sweet and thin. Even with that minor issue it’s still one of my favorite restaurants. Been 7 times and never one bad morsel of food. A true gem.
Great Local restaurant with innovative Cuisine. Nice staff with small but varied menu.
Overall food was great but our steak was not. Should have stopped before the last course. Noise far too loud.
loved the steak but portion too small for price...service was sloppy and not crowded so no excuse
