I’ve been here several times started with the seared foie gras with a purée of pear, black berry, ginger & brioche, all covered with a light duck jus, delicious! My main course was lamb served 2ways, s crusted & roasted loin, and a braised shoulder, served with a summer bean cassoulet, and a delicious natural lamb jus.
The shoulder melted in my mouth. For dessert I opted for the pistachio mousse which came with a quenelle of fresh fig ice cream with a caramel sauce. All very refreshing, & not overly sweet. Service here is always unobtrusive while being “spot on”. Can’t wait to return!
Very disappointing. Asked 3 times if we were attending a show, and they were still very late with our entrees. The table next to us got entrees and dessert prior to our entrees being served even though our appetizers came out 5 minutes apart. We barely made our show on time.
Food tasted good but value is poor when you get a 1/2 of chicken breast for $34.
Would not return
I am always astounded when my NYC friends, especially the theater goers, have never heard of
Aureole. It has to be best, or at least one of the best, restaurants in the theater district. And believe me , I have been to many, many restaurants in this area, Yes, it is expensive but if you can afford the Broadway tickets then you can probably afford this restaurant. You will be rewarded with incredible food and service, which is probably better than the show you saw or will see.
Excellent food, but service was lacking and at times inexplicably spotty (20+ minutes until our table was approached!). Ambiance might be due for an overhaul. The 3 course is a solid value.
We went to Aureole because of its reputation for amazing food and a stellar wine list, and we were not disappointed. We had the somm pick a wine for us, based on a discussion of what we liked, and he made a great choice. We had the 3-course meal, but there are 5- and 7-course chef's tasting menus available as well. We had seared tuna and beef tartare for our first course, both of which were excellent. Or second course, Scottish salmon for me, beef tenderloin for my daughter, were also excellent. We finished with dessert, a peach Mille feuille for her and cheese plate for me. I had mentioned I'm diabetic, so the server also brought out a plate of beautiful fresh fruit, as well. Service was impeccable, and we had a truly wonderful evening.
A great restaurant, but in a fairly standard way. Good cuisine, executed well, just not inventive. Service was well-coordinated.
De gerechten waren Michelin ster waardig, combinatie met wijnen vielen tegen.
Service an be very good or can be distracted. Too often distracted and not managed. Clientele ranges from smartly dressed New Yorkers to out of towners allowed to sit down in jeans, t-shirts, and baseballs caps rather than adhering to a dress code, resulting in a distinctly bifurcated look in the room. Ask for the back room if you prefer to avoid this- until this gets out. They recently put up a grey curtain- maybe dishrag? to obscure windows along 42nd Street. This boxes in the room instead of using a privacy curtain like The Modern's private dining room or an elegant design. Aureole was once and could be a great restaurant, but catering to the lowest common denominator walking in from Time Square hotels and allowing 45 minutes to go by without one of their excellent courses for pre-theatre is wrecking what used to be the best pre-theatre in da hood. Something's up.
Aureole was a good experience, and the food was very good. There are 2 menus: one for the more casual front half, and a second, more expensive and more extensive, for the "dining room." The dining room menu is significantly more expensive, but the staff accommodated us with the "front" menu since we dined very early (pre-show). I would recommend the "front" restaurant for after work, or before theater. Though I did not experience the bar, it looked good with a good ambiance.
Great food! Dessert was amazing!! We had a show to go to afterwards and they served us very promptly :-)
First Charlie Palmer restaurant visit. So good. Felt so welcomed from moment we arrived! Eric our lead server was amazing. He made the entire experience amazing! Love the wine list. Stunning ambiance amazing food. Caviar app was divine
Tremendous service, food superb!
Food was very good and service was wonderful by Daniel. Good place for theater goers.
My business partner and I took 2 clients to dinner before going to see a Broadway show.
We arrived on time for our 5:15pm reservation and explained we need to be done by 6:30pm.
We were told it would not be a problem if we ordered the 3 course tasting menu.
The appetizer came and was very good. It then took almost an hour to get our entree which did not arrive until 6:28pm.
Different servers told us different things including that we would not be billed but a check for almost $400 was presented to us for one of the worst experiences I’ve had.
I emailed both the asst manager and the General Manager - and neither one returned my email.
It’s such a shame. Back in the day this was a great spot
Great experience with excellent food and super high class service
Beautiful restaurant, great location in the theater district. Friendly staff and interesting food
The atmosphere was good, but I was really expecting more out of the food. The risotta was a bit too salty, and there seemed to be excessive butter in most dishes. Overpriced for what you get.
Consistently fine food and pleasant, efficient service. Ideal for a business lunch.
Good value, $69 for 3 course pre-theatre menu. Food was very good, service excellent. Close to Broadway.
Kudos to Aureole again. Consistently outstanding worthy of it's star. For this recent lunch I had the endive salad and the chef was able to substitute haricots verts for the radishes. A simple swith that one would expect in a restaurant of this calibre, but getting harder to find restaurants that can tweak the menu. The bass was perfection. Dessert was creative. Not only was the meal served well but it was perfectly fresh.
Excellent food and atmosphere. Very helpful and attentive staff. Place for a special occasion as it is expensive but worth it for the experience
We went here for a pre-Theatre dinner. Food and service was good. Small negative point is that their street ad says pre-show dinner $55, but the real price is $69. Food, especially the preselected menu is definitely on the expensive side, but on the other hand quite good.
I really liked professionalism which Eric, our table server, demonstrated, fully understood what I needed.
The food was fantastic and the service was great, great place for a business lunch
Very tasty dinner with beautiful presentation. The room looked like it had acoustical panels on the walls and ceilings so the noise levels were pretty perfect for an intimate, romantic dinner. We appreciated that they did not have a strict dress code and that they served us ice in our water. The wait staff were fantastic, helpful but never intrusive. Our 30th wedding anniversary was truly delightful at Aureole.
Pre Theater, Birthday
Amazed that this place doesn’t have more than a one Michelin star. Certainly deserves more. Amazing service, amazing food
We took advantage of the Pris Fixe lunch (2 course $38; 3 course $43), which was excellent value. We both chose the same menu. The Cauliflower soup, poured with panache over baby scallops, was delicious. The sea bass with charred corn and pickled peach was beautifully cooked and very tasty. The Variations of Dark Chocolate was perhaps a bit too chocolatty for my taste (my fault - I should have chosen the carrot cake), but my guest enjoyed it. The service was attentive without being intrusive. All in all a delightful experience.
Always great food, creative but unpretentious and brilliant execution. Great service too. Any very accommodating to special requests
Classy place with great service. Food is expertly cooked and plated but this was my second meal in a row, seafood with a brown butter sauce and personally I find the butter sauce to be over salted. First time I thought it was an error. Second time, I just realize it is not for me. However tuna crudo was great. Rest of the meal was perfectly done. I will be back.
There are much better restaurants in NY. Go to Hells Kitchen and you'll find much better
one word - Superb!!!
Aureole never fails to deliver. From the moment you walk in the door, Valerio is there to welcome you. Make sure you leave enough time for Sean to demonstrate his bar tending skills. The wait staff provides top rate attention without being obtrusive. Aureole continues to be our "go to" place.
Food was overall quite good. Highlights were the cauliflower soup and the tuna. Unfortunately in saying we didn't have a show to attend our table was put on the back burner and our meal took about 2-3 times longer then it should have. The EXTREMELY slow service overshadowed the otherwise quite good food.
Ate in the Liberty Room. Been here many times for pre theater dinner, but not in over a year. They put up shades to block out the view of 42nd Steet and the huge neon billboard from across the street, I guess that’s a positive, the room feels more intimate and relaxed. The food is still generally good although they shrunk the menu and materially raised the prices in the Liberty Room, especially the pre theater special, which used to be a great deal under $60, now $69, fully priced imo. The deserts seemed kind of small, not the over the top creations I used to associate with Aureole. Regards. Ned.
Restaurant was truly wonderful but can’t in good conscious give it the 5 star it should have had.
We had the rib eye for two which was outstanding, but we were NOT presented with ALL the menu options by the server.
My husband had a wonderful birthday dinner except for that one hiccup.
On a visit to New York we treated ourselves to lunch at Aureole and the were not disappointed. The food was very good and the staff very attentive. We would definitely visit again if we were ever back in NY.
The salad was amazing, my entree was excellent. We didn't order dessert, but happened to mention to our server that we were celebrating our birthday's and he brought us over a dessert plate with Happy Birthday on it and a candle at the end of our meal, which I thought was really nice and totally unexpected!
Great spot -
Year's after move to 42nd St Aureole remains a favorite for pre-theater and everyday fine dining
