Aureole Ratings and Reviews
This is my second time at Aureole the first was for my 50th Anniversary we had the 7 course tasting menu with matching wines it was amazing but to enjoy you have to plan on it being the entire evening because you cannot rush experience. This time we were going to the theater after dinner and so wait staff was especially sensitive to that so that we would have well spaced meal and not be so content that we would fall asleep in the theater they recommended either of the three or the five course tasting menu. We elected to three course which we then had our waiter suggest wines for the appetizer and entrée courses the wines and the food was perfectly matched. The dishes were excellently presented, in a timely manner allowing us to enjoy each dish and then start the next course . ForAppetizers I had the Scallops Ceviche which were prepared in a chive broth sauce which was like nothing I had had before, it was just outstanding , my wife had the Yellowfin Tuna Tartare with baby fennel , tarragon, tangerine dressing, which was also excellent. For entrees we had the Scottish salmon for an entrée, which was cooked to perfection medium rare and the Diver Scallops with bacon, carmelized onions and parsnips. desert was the perfect ending, Spice Cake, molasses, apple cider, Guinness ice cream. It was just enough to satisfy, providing that touch of sweetness without creating the oh I ate too much feeling. My complements to the chief and our waiter for a wonderful meal. One last thought, don’t go here to eat if your in a hurry you will waste your money and the staffs time. This is a place to eat talk and enjoy both
We were 45 min late for our reservation due to the horrible city traffic. When we got there , they accommodated right away with unbelievable service and professionalism. It was for my birthday with my wife. Though we didn’t have time for the 5 course tasting , they got us thru the 3 course in time to still make our show. We never felt rushed and the food superb. Absolutely recommend this gem of a restaurant.
MOST AMAZING EXPERIENCE. We went to Aureole to celebrate my boyfriends 30th Birthday, I noted in the reservation that it was his birthday and we were greeted with a Happy Birthday when we arrived and our coats being collected. The waiter seated us and pulled out both of our seats. We started with a champagne toast with a delectible chamapagne. We then decided on doing the Pre-Fix 3 course menu and we started with Wagyu Beef and Tuna Tar Tare, both fresh and displayed to perfection. We then had hand crafted cocktails, mine made with Whiskey, his with brandy-both up to par and the perfect in between taste we needed. We then had a complimentary mushroom risotto which was so flavorful and melted in our mouths. I ordered the Duck Main Course which was so tender and juicy! My boyfriend ordered the Ranch Rib Eye that was cooked perfectly and came with the most amazing crispy potato side dish. We ended our dinner with dessert, his came with a "Happy 30th Birthday" written in chocolate drizzle with a candle and mine was the most amazing coffee icecream and chocolate dish, again we were given complimentary sherbert to cleanse our pallete. The wait staff was knowledgable, friendly, engaging, and the best service we ever received.
Outstanding food and service. The captain was very attentive and explained the dishes. There was a wide variety of food options. The squid ink pasta and octopus was amazing. The venison was prepared perfectly. The ambiance was very nice. You could carry on a conversation easily but there was life in the restaurant.
Had a lovely christmas dinner. Good reception, excellent bar tender while we waited for our table (we were very early). The waiters were a disappointment, waiter at least 10 minutes to order, but only after we called them twice to come and take. Also had to mention 3x that we would like some bread while the tables next to us didnt have to ask and received before us while we sat down earlier. Dissapointing certainly as several of them were just standing around. Luckily the food was absolutely top notch and all was fantastic as soon as food came around, including the waiters.
The food and staff were excellent. We are here for Christmas Eve dinner. The filet, halibut, chicken, and salmon were all equally delicious and perfectly prepared. It was a fixed menu. There was an issue with my children being charged the adult price, but our server promptly fixed it, which I greatly appreciated.
We ate here because we wanted a good romantic Christmas Eve dinner in NYC. We intended on going to another restaurant but it was sold out.
Overall, good was good but not amazing. This is the second time at Aureole. Once in Vegas and now here.
Foie gras: amazing, large portion.
Endive Salad: not very good. Bland. Bad choice.
Salmon: very good. Wish I could cook salmon this good.
Snake river tenderloin: a bit too salty. Still very good.
Lol, I don’t remember was we had. Both were good.
Server: too young and too inexperienced. She didn’t know the menu well and didn’t understand our questions. Example: “is the endive salad pieces of endive with meat/cheese mixture inside each leaf?” Her answer, “yes”. It wasn’t. It was all mixed together like a normal salad. We smiled. It is Christmas Eve and she is working. I suspect she wasn’t a lead server.
Service: outstanding BUT one complaint. Multiple servers and hosts were at entrance to kitchen which happened to be right where we were sitting. We had to talk over them as they chatted about their weekend to each other the entire dinner. It was a bit annoying. That said, the service was high end. They were ready with water and plates immediately. I would suggest to the manager to remind them to tone down the chatting while guests are eating.
Cost: it was cheap. For that, I think it was a little lower than what I’d expect at that price range.
I likely would not eat here again. Two reasons: NYC has too many other options and it didn’t quite live up to standards. That said, it’s still a high end restaurant:
For a Michelin star restaurant and also one which a meal for 2 will easily run you at least $250 I was very unimpressed. I've had better service and food from your general chain restaurants where the meal would be less than $100 for 2. The dessert was the worst part of the meal. I had ordered the foie gras appetizer which was OK but lacking in flavour. My wife had the tuna tartare and that also was more on the bland side. My diver scallops main was good however her NY striploin was terrible. They had given her the end of the cut and it was over cooked.
The server was also also terrible. She took our order then we never saw her again until it was time for dessert. I had to flag down another server to ask for lime wedges for our waters but then they never came either.
I'm very disappointed in Aureole as this was to celebrate my wife's birthday and she was very saddened by the experience.
Service was very disappointing, food was mostly tasteless. The cheese plate was literally taken from the fridge (with bread and all) and placed in front of me; one would expect a high end restaurant that charges $100 per person knows that the cheese should be served at room temperature and that the bread should be fresh and crispy not cold, dry and soggy!
Sad to say Aureole seems to have lost its sense of what it is. Maybe we were there on an off night but service was quite perfunctory and rushed (our first course came before we ordered wine). Everything felt quite ordinary which is a pity in what always has been a very superior place. For the money I expect a lot more.
Literally a room full of staff ensuring a perfectly orchestrated dining experience. We dined before the theatre so chose a three course Prix Fix menu for timing. The menu selection was broad and well designed making it easy for us to order well coordinated courses. The quality, masterful preparation and presentation of each course was simply exquisite. Can’t wait to return and sample more of this remarkable cuisine. And we made it to the theatre with perfect timing because the staff was truly conscious of our curtain time, something many theatre district restaurants lose sight of.
A personnel was not friendly. I have to wait for all meals, especially too long for the main meal and desert. I would not mention that the food was prepared by Michelin star chef . The waiter was slow and absent-minded. Even after lunch time he was too slow.
As always our experience at Aureole's was fabulous. Ryan, our waiter, was courteous, helpful and attentive. I took two people who had never been to Aureole's before and they left feeling as I have after each dining experience, can't wait to go back! A pleasant surprise was the pasta dish which I have never had before, wonderfully prepared. And of course, a glass of Charlie Palmer's Pinot Noir is worth the trip alone.
