Auntie's Kitchen - Westin Kaanapali Ocean Resort Villas Ratings and Reviews
Pretty disappointed. The beef dip was terrible. Soggy bread and not much flavour, tasted like something you’d get at a fast food joint. It was so soggy the flavour didn’t really change whether you dipped it or not.
Once someone came and served us it was fine, but they were a good 15 minutes past our reservation when seating (which is fine, wasn’t too worried), but then it took another 15 after being seated before someone came over to take our drink order.
We are a local family from Makawao, using the couple for Kamaaina discount as A Kitchen posted in local newspaper, we were excited to try a new place on Maui. We showed up at 1:50 pm for lunch, kids hungry after afternoon at beach, and although my daughter order quesadilla and the boy ordered a turkey burger, it was 2:55, more than an hour and food was still not out, two tables next to us sat down after us and were finished or just finishing their food by the time we got ours. And the place was not even that busy, there were plenty open tables. My wife ordered the "baja" style fish tacos and they came soggy fish, not battered like "baja" style and all luke warm. She did not even eat them, my daughter said her dish was "ho hum..dady you make better at home", the boy did like his burger, but he eats anything and my steak sandwich was also just ok. No reason to ever go back. Typical resort food. I feel sorry for all the visitors, our bill for 4 plates (two off kids meal menu should be cheaper) was $70 with 50% off, if I had paid $140 for that meal as a tourist I would have said Aunties Kitchen and the Hotel was a big rip off. Look a family of 4 can eat well for about 2/3 the price at either Paia Fish Market Lahaina or Star Noodle (not same owners, not related to me, I am a local this is were we like to eat). I like to try new places because there are only like 3 places on Maui we go to regularly, Aunties Kitchen will not be one of them.
We came here everyday for breakfast during our stay since it was so close to our room at the Westin. Everything here is good to very good. No major complaints and the ambiance is very beautiful... But we have to say over all our best experience was when Claudia was our server. The place is usually pretty busy in the morning so we understand that service is usually not the greatest, but all of servers did their best. However, Claudia went above and beyond and kept checking on us and had what we wanted before we even asked!! Fantastic service that put their overall service to five stars!!
The Kitchen is located on a lanai next next to a resort swimming pool it is screened by bushes, but there is some noise from the pool area. This is casual dining room, the tables and chairs are wooden without table cloths. I did not find the uncushioned wooden chair very comfortable. The service was good, the staff knew the menu well and they kept our water glasses full without us having to ask for refills. I had the chicken meal which was supposed to come with crispy skin, it was not crispy. The Kitchen does provide a huge home made roll with each main course and the brownie dessert was atttactive.
We like Aunties Kitchen. The ahi salad was great. The servers are friendly. I like that their ice tea is Mango Ice tea, very nice. They serve great tasting coffee. We enjoyed the fish tacos too! In November, we needed to reserve a table, so do that so you dont have to wait 45 minutes. Popular place! Go see Auntie!
Food was decent but the service made it worth it. Our server was very attentive to refilling our drinks and checking if everything was going well. It’s a little noisy with it being open and lots of full tables plus the back grown music was a little loud. If you are staying at the resort or a neighboring one it’s a decent place to eat. Easy to walk to from the ocean path.
This place overhauled thier menu food was much better and simple when it was ocean bar and grill. We went for the ahi sandwich which used to be divine they took that off so we had drinks and kids had a cheese pizza. I give the food 3 at best. Service was good though.
The food was barely edible and dramatically overpriced. I had an over cooked veggie burger on a disgusting gluten free bun that was soggy on the bottom and tasteless, as was the burger. The fries it came with were fine. My husband had a quesadilla and a spinach salad. With the tip it came to $73. Would never eat there again.
We were lured to Auntie's Kitchen because of the "All-You-Care-To-Eat Crab Legs" and unfortunately they were hit or miss. We found that 60 percent of the time, the legs (a mixture of Snow amd Dungeness) were either old and mushy or just plain cold. Even waiting for legs that just came out wasn't a promise of freshness. However, the atmosphere, drink selection, and service made up for this downside and helped to make our experience enjoyable. If we return, we'll definitely be ordering off the menu, as entrees we saw being served to other diners really looked delicious.
We were very disappointed in our experience at Aunties Kitchen. We had been eating at Pailolo which we enjoyed very much, but thought we'd give Aunties Kitchen a try. We won't be going back there. Hopefully, they can improve their menu. The highlight was the ocean view.
We went there for New Year's Eve celebration and order their prix fixe menu. Our first and second courses were brought together. Appetizer tasted as if it was cooked a couple of days before and then partially warmed up in the microwave. Main course had the same appearance of plates served at the soup kitchen with a big nasty blob of puréed greens and mashed Taro next to some over cooked steak and a piece of fish. There was also some salty poke on the side . Appearance was not appetizing and food tasted terrible. The best part of the meal was their dessert as it was probably pre-made and brought from somewhere else.
I wished portions were smaller, but beautifully presented, with some flavor.
Needless to say, I will never return there.
