August is a restaurant that sits in the old heritage church on Dornoch Terrace, West End. Our dining room is surrounded by objects, art, and the original pitched church ceiling and stained glass windows. Our menu is influenced by regional food from France, Italy and Spain

August is open for dinner from 5pm on Thursday - Saturday, and from 111:30am for lunch on Saturday and Sunday. We also offer a range of private dining experiences, and can accommodate 60 seated guests, or up to 80 for reception-style events. We look forward to welcoming you soon.

    Really disappointing experience. The first time I dined here, it was a pleasant experience. This time around, the restaurant was freezing - all the other diners put on their coats in the time we were there. Despite it being a cold evening, the door was left open and the staff seemed oblivious to how cold it was. Service was friendly enough but part of our order was forgotten, and we had to enquire. We ordered the duck special as one of the mains. It was extremely dry and over cooked, almost rubbery in texture. They may have been understaffed but there are ways to manage expectation around this without losing good will. The mains took about an hour and a half to come out. By that time we were all freezing and hungry, despite booking an early sitting time. It’s a shame as the setting is lovely and my first experience was positive. I won’t be returning.

    Exceeds expectations. An extremely fulfilling & nourishing dining experience. Stuart was amazing guide through the whole evening. Don't hesitate, get to August immediately.

    Lovely way to spend Sunday lunch with friends. They have done a great job of renovating an old church into a very comfortable space , small but not crowded, felt like we were dining with the whole congregation but also had our privacy. We chose the set menu and it was faultless, probably the steak tartare was the winner on the day but the rest of the meal was also delicious. Stuart our waiter was attentive , knowledgeable but also gave us space. Will be back to try the a la carte one day soon

    Extremely overpriced for the level of technique applied and the largely plant-based menu. Far too much bread and far too many lettuce and radicchio leaves. The lamb main was tasty, but tough and fatty and there was not enough of it for five people. The butter served with baguette was melted. The waiter with no sleeves and bare underarms leaning over the table totally unappealing. The waiters did not serve out the dishes and the patrons are expected to dig into two plates in the centre as a group, meaning you are often using your fingers to retrieve delicate pieces of things Wine princes much the same as at other fine dining restaurants. Disappointing experience overall, which might have been acceptable if it were about half the current price. Massively overpriced for the small amount of meat available and we got the impression we were being filled up on bread and green leaves of various types. Interesting wine menu though.

    The food was delicious and a nice selection of wines. Had the $90 set menu on Mothers Day. Service excellent. Already planning our next visit.

    We had high expectations for this restaurant, the menu looked promising, not to mention the great location in a beautiful old church. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to what we’d hoped for. The service was very slow; we constantly had to flag someone down just to place an order. The menu wasn’t explained at all, nor was the wine list. There were no suggestions for food and wine pairings, and no recommendations offered for any of the dishes. Honestly, for the price we paid, the service was disappointing and the food did not meet our expectations.

    We have been eager to visit August since it opened. It did not disappoint. Everything was exceptional. The service staff shone as they were efficient, non-invasive yet super friendly and warm. We can’t wait to return and try more of the delicious menu. Such a wonderful addition to the West End/Highgate Hill dining scene.
