Very good mussels here, but I would recommend letting the mussels sit for a few minutes after you are served. The longer the mussels sit the more of the delicious broth is absorbed.
Great selection of beers

Augie's lives up to their mussel house label. We've tried 4 different mussel flavors over two visits. All fabulous. Staff looks after us properly.

I SO wanted a real mussel house in Alexandria! Sorry, but it seems Mussels are more a gimmick than a real menu focus at Augie's. When we first received menus they had NO mussels on them, we had to ask for a mussel menu. And the mussel offerings beyond the Classic tended towards heavy addditions like sausage that drown the delicate mussel flavor. The staff was friendly but just not very effective. Between the noise, the food and the off and on service, this was not a happy dinner and I would not recommend it to friends, unless they just want a drink at the bar or patio.

The food is really great for brunch! Augie's has a great atmosphere and layout, however, the service could use some improvement. I hope this place sticks around and the service gets addressed!!

Very loud downstairs. Staff rather disorganized — we had to ask for the mussels menu at a place specializing in mussels. Main course came before we finished our salads.

This was my first time here after eyeing this place for many months since before it opened! Unfortunately, it was a cold rainy/snowy day, so I didn't get to experience the patio, but it looks awesome and I look forward to giving it a try, which I can do in the winter given their patio heaters. The service was super friendly and professional from beginning to end. The beer selection was solid and the food was great - we both enjoyed our meals and agreed we'll definitely be back!

Our meal was cold, the beer list was not up to date and it was way too expensive. They really should go back to the drawing board. We visited Augie’s last summer before the renovations and loved it. To say we were disappointed after this visit is an understatement. We will not be going back.

Great service and decent atmosphere. Food came out all at the same time, which was odd, but fine since we were splitting everything (and we ordered several small plates). Ordered the risotto mussels and it was really tasty and would order this again. The crab fritters weren’t my fav and would suggest steering away from that dish. The beet salad was well dressed. The old bay wings were my husbands favorite of the meal. Overall, will come back and try more of the menu.

This was our 4th here and the service was extremely inconsistent. The host was unhelpful despite us having a reservation. The bar tender upstairs was frazzled by the barrage of staff behind the bar. When we were finally seated we waited 17 minutes or the waiter. When our apps arrived I had to get up and find a waiter to bring us plates. Something was way off!

This is my new favorite restaurant! The service, atmosphere and location are great. The beer garden is beautiful, pet friendly and it’s heated during the colder seasons.

I’ve tried 3 of the mussel broths and the flavors and delicious. The crab fritters and pretzels are wonderful apps, as well.

I will note that on the most recent visit, all of our main dishes were overly salty, including the mussels. We did mention this to the manager. She was very kind and was going to share this with the chef and staff. It may have been a slightly off night.

We will be returning to try the other mussels, though!

Augie’s is undoubtably my favorite place as an Old Town local. They always treat us well, exceptional food, world class beers always available (Belgian Beers!), and fun waitstaff. I go here about once a week, if not more, and can’t think of a complaint.

This was my second time visiting this restaurant and it was wonderful. My husband ordered the mussels over risotto, my daughter ordered the chicken and biscuits and I ordered the Nduja mussels. Everything was well prepared and delicious. I didn’t realize that Nduja was a sausage. I’m a vegetarian, so I would’ve ordered it without the meat. I mentioned this to the manager and she welcomed the suggestion. She and the entire staff were professional, efficient and very pleasant. I would definitely recommend Auggie’s!

I have walked by this relatively new restaurant a few times. The staff was great, server was really good. Asked him a few questions and he quickly returned with answers.

The food:

Fried mozzarella: really good, they come in triangles making them easy to cut and eat. They’re topped with cheese and fresh basil. The tomato sauce provided was tasty.

Chicken and waffles: the piece of chicken was small but very tasty. The waffle had no taste without drowning it in the syrup. The sauce, far too spicy and lumpy, it looked as if the butter had separated. For $18 I wouldn’t go for it again.

Cobb salad: I’m not sure how long it had been sitting and premade but based on how soggy it was I suspect a while. It was also very salty. The grilled chicken was good, but very basic and void of seasoning. The pork belly pieces were so hard I thought I broke a crown off with my first bite. I think the price tag, add chicken was $24 definitely not worth it...plus doesn’t a Cobb salad already have chicken included?

I would say if you’re a beer drinker who likes good service and is only in for an appetizer or two go for it. The dinner experience wasn’t good enough to want to risk over paying.

There were a few snafus getting the correct food out of the kitchen. They sent the wrong app first. My wifes entree was wrong and mine didn't show. Everyone was nice about it and rectified it.
They do not offer coffee or iced tea.
