Augie's Mussel House and Beer Garden
Favorite place in town, amazing wings, excellent beer selection (including Belgian beers), and wonderful staff.
Great outdoor seating! Food and drinks were delicious
Everyone loved their meals. One had mussel risotto (wish there was more risotto), one classic mussels and one steak frites. We also had the beet salad and frite. All was good and we agreed we would go back.
Great addition to Old Town Alexandria! Mussel selection is delicious and wonderfully varied.
Our go to place in old town. Best mussels in Alexandria
We really enjoyed the food, the service, and the outdoor seating. We had the tuna - delicious! (wanted more of the wontons to scoop it up though - only came with four or so), the chicken sliders (fun onions), and the jerk mussels (WOW!) Also - good beer and good heat lamps. Will be a fun place in the summer.
Provide you are intent on conversation as it was quite loud.
Amazing mussels, service, and beer selection. Will definitely come here again...and again.
Very good mussels here, but I would recommend letting the mussels sit for a few minutes after you are served. The longer the mussels sit the more of the delicious broth is absorbed.
Great selection of beers
Augie's lives up to their mussel house label. We've tried 4 different mussel flavors over two visits. All fabulous. Staff looks after us properly.
Valentines. Great service, great food, great table by the window upstairs.
Enjoyed the food and wait staff however thought the gentleman at the door was a bit terse
Outstanding evening. Cool atmosphere. Delicious food. Great beer selection. We will be back.
I SO wanted a real mussel house in Alexandria! Sorry, but it seems Mussels are more a gimmick than a real menu focus at Augie's. When we first received menus they had NO mussels on them, we had to ask for a mussel menu. And the mussel offerings beyond the Classic tended towards heavy addditions like sausage that drown the delicate mussel flavor. The staff was friendly but just not very effective. Between the noise, the food and the off and on service, this was not a happy dinner and I would not recommend it to friends, unless they just want a drink at the bar or patio.
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. I’m very sorry we failed to meet your expectations. I would appreciate another chance to earn your business. Eileen Vaughn Executive General Manager
Excellent mussels. I had the Nduja sauce which had a nice kick!
Great beer selection on tap.
The food is really great for brunch! Augie's has a great atmosphere and layout, however, the service could use some improvement. I hope this place sticks around and the service gets addressed!!
We are so happy to have this cool new space in Old Town - LOVE the patio - best in town - we well as the really friendly staff and good food. Fun night out - drinks on the patio and dinner inside in the winter - couldn't be better
Great food. Good atmosphere. Had steak tar tar - yum! Two kinds of mussels and fries. Beer also!
Delicious food, great atmosphere, very attentive service. We are looking forward to coming back in the spring to enjoy that beautiful outdoor space.
Went for restaurant week and was very impressed. Fantasy food, great service and awesome atmosphere! Highly recommend!
I’ve been here twice. The restaurant and bar itself is lovely. Great atmosphere. The food and service is just ok.
Excellent service. Great food. Fun place. Will return!!
Delicious brunch. Fried chicken and waffles were delicious.
Great food amazing heat lamps in the patio. Service was attentive.
Mussels were very good. Frittes a bit soggy.
Food was excellent. Service was slow but we were not in a rush so it was fine.
Very loud downstairs. Staff rather disorganized — we had to ask for the mussels menu at a place specializing in mussels. Main course came before we finished our salads.
This was my first time here after eyeing this place for many months since before it opened! Unfortunately, it was a cold rainy/snowy day, so I didn't get to experience the patio, but it looks awesome and I look forward to giving it a try, which I can do in the winter given their patio heaters. The service was super friendly and professional from beginning to end. The beer selection was solid and the food was great - we both enjoyed our meals and agreed we'll definitely be back!
Always a great time. Easily becoming our weekly tradition. Love the beers, the wings, the foods, and the awesome staff.
Great redo of the space, looking forward to sitting outside next trip!
It’s my second time dining here in a week. I really love the heated patio and the mussels are amazing!
Our meal was cold, the beer list was not up to date and it was way too expensive. They really should go back to the drawing board. We visited Augie’s last summer before the renovations and loved it. To say we were disappointed after this visit is an understatement. We will not be going back.
Does mussels really well.
Bar area was cold. There was a draft coming from the fireplace. But overall food was really good. There was multiple options for muscles. I would dine again.
Great service and decent atmosphere. Food came out all at the same time, which was odd, but fine since we were splitting everything (and we ordered several small plates). Ordered the risotto mussels and it was really tasty and would order this again. The crab fritters weren’t my fav and would suggest steering away from that dish. The beet salad was well dressed. The old bay wings were my husbands favorite of the meal. Overall, will come back and try more of the menu.
We love mussels, and we were not disappointed. The only thing to call out here is the service although very nice, was very slow based on the number of patrons.q
Good mussel. Do not get the chicken & waffles. Waffles are not good at all
This was our 4th here and the service was extremely inconsistent. The host was unhelpful despite us having a reservation. The bar tender upstairs was frazzled by the barrage of staff behind the bar. When we were finally seated we waited 17 minutes or the waiter. When our apps arrived I had to get up and find a waiter to bring us plates. Something was way off!
This is my new favorite restaurant! The service, atmosphere and location are great. The beer garden is beautiful, pet friendly and it’s heated during the colder seasons.
I’ve tried 3 of the mussel broths and the flavors and delicious. The crab fritters and pretzels are wonderful apps, as well.
I will note that on the most recent visit, all of our main dishes were overly salty, including the mussels. We did mention this to the manager. She was very kind and was going to share this with the chef and staff. It may have been a slightly off night.
We will be returning to try the other mussels, though!
Augie’s is undoubtably my favorite place as an Old Town local. They always treat us well, exceptional food, world class beers always available (Belgian Beers!), and fun waitstaff. I go here about once a week, if not more, and can’t think of a complaint.
