Au Za'atar Ratings and Reviews
Me and wife truly enjoyed Au zaatar! The food really is made fresh and with so much care. Very authentic Lebanese flavors and perfect amount of spices. Cauliflower, kebabs, pita pizzas were all delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. Will be back to try more!
At Za’atar, the service is outstanding! They made me feel special. And the food is very delicious! I really enjoyed the lamb shank and all the appetizers we ordered! The restaurant is also spacious, which is surprising for NYC. Thank you, Shareef, for the excellent service!
We've been to Au Za'atar several times as it's a neighborhood favorite -- good food, service, etc. However, this time was a near disaster. The wine order, four glasses of various whites, had a red on the tray. The server knocked over one glass, luckily a white, which flooded the table, my husband and a friend. Apologies, lots of hands and napkins cleaning up, then the proper wine delivered. Time went by and by. I twice asked if could we order. Eventually someone came. The mezze took a while arriving. Very good. Dishes cleared, then nothing. Long minutes passed. We asked twice about the status of our main course. Finally it arrived. The manager (I think) to make amends presented us with another round of wine and a free banana-nutella crepe. I didn't ask, but I can only surmise the wait staff was new and in training and the kitchen was understaffed. This was the first time we'd taken our rather elegant friends to Au Za'atar. We were upset on their behalf as well as ours. We'll probably go back, but not soon.
First time at Au'Za'atar and was very impressed. Having been to Lebanon several times I would say the food was definitely authentic, delicious Lebanese cuisine The staff were very attentive and friendly. I was most impressed with the attention the owner of the restaurant gave to his patrons. He even treated us to dessert because he was concerned we may have waited a bit too long for our food. That's great customer service and we will definitely be back :)
Food was impeccable. Our waiter was ridiculously disruptive. He would literally interrupt our conversation every 4 minutes to see if we needed anything or to ask stupid questions such as "would you like the beer in a glass or bottle?" I went here to catch up with a friend of mine over some good food and we hadn't seen each other in a very, very long time. The food was definitely amazing and we never had to wait long for anything but the service was frustrating. There comes a time when you should just stand by and wait to be called (or see if customers look up for you) rather than interrupting a very good conversation over and over again for no reason. We would lose the whole flow of conversation and I would lose my train of thought. I would recommend this place for the food but not for if you want to catch up with someone you haven't seen in ages nor for a romantic date.
I was very disappointed with what we ordered , couscous royale ($37) couscous vegetarian, humus , babaganoush. The couscous itself did not have any texture, it was drowned in a red bouillon who did not have any taste at all. The Humus had a texture of cream cheese and the babaganoush had to much garlic to taste anything. I grew up eating couscous, not sure what spices they put, but it was tasteless . We were all very disappointed. If you are looking for the real middle eastern food, that is not it.
