the food was really, really good!
The young lady that took our orders was extremely friendly and knew the menu top to bottom. she had a great attitude and a big smile!
we all left fully satisfied with our choices of food and juices, so much so that barely noticed the lack of alcohol options in the menu.
I am for sure coming back!
I heard about Au Lac from the original one in Fountain Valley and loved it, so I thought I'd have a small dinner for my birthday in the one in Downtown LA. Beautiful space and great food! A little pricey but it's vegan/raw gourmet food. So you do get the bang for your buck. This is a good place to have your birthday but I think they should have at least given a free small desert (as I saw most ppl had to bring their own cake). For the money you end up spending here a small desert would be nothing! Anyway, will still go back and definitely tell others!
Interesting and diverse vegan options. Our waiter was very knowledgeable, very energetic and very friendly. We had a great time.
This is a great vegan restaurant. It's on the upscale side & the menu is filled with amazingly creative and delicious options. Los Angeles has probably over a hundred vegan restaurants and this is definitely one of my favorites.
Great food for those who seek vegan or vegetarian and want something more than normal bland food. Unfortunately we received very slow service due to a very large to-go order that consumed the entire kitchen productivity for almost 30 minutes. We our starters and then waited. And waited. The server came to our table twice to apologize for the delay, but never offered any compensation. And clearly a number of other tables were affected as the food could be seen rushing from the kitchen once the multiple to-go bags left. They really need to do a better job handling to-go order time estimates so that this doesn't take priority over in-restaurant customers.
One of the best vegan restaurants I've been to. The yam shrimp and octopus AKA mushrooms are unbelievable. Give yourself the gift of a great meal and go!!
Great! Food was awesome and delicious. Service was great.
Certainly one of the best vegan restaurants in California!! Everything was seasoned perfectly and they have lots of gluten free options!!
My second time dining here since I stumbled across it two years ago looking for a place to dine before going to the Ahmanson. The food is very creative, satisfying and beautifully presented. I'm not a vegan, but I do appreciate delicious vegan dishes and I love to recommend this place to my vegan friends, foodie friends and vegetarian skeptics alike.
Birthday dinner for 14 people was a success!! Food, service and ambience were great!
It's my favorite place in LA! I love the thoughtfully prepared food and warm atmosphere.
This place exceeded my expectations. And our server Phillipo was amazing! He made my boyfriend’s birthday super special. I’m so glad I found this spot!
On Sunday evening we came in for a double date. It was quite, and the server made us feel very special. He was deeply versed in all menu items and the specialty of their ingredients. We started with the crispy mushrooms, sushi, and pork rolls. Then the Pho. It was light and delicate, with perfectly cooked noodles. I was in umami heaven. The tiramisu was decadent and flavorful, but my favorite dessert was the Chocolate X-tasty. Lastly I ordered the "Chillin'" tonic which is a warm comforting apple cider-like experience. The kind gentlemen taking care of us made sure we felt relaxed to stay and enjoy our company. Sending many thanks to you and your wonderful team.
Food was generally delicious and our guests enjoyed it a lot. The service could use some improvement though. When the dishes came out the servers forgot the sauces and we had to ask for them. Also they neglected to pick up the used plates which stacked up. If I were to compare the Au Lac in Fountain Valley and DTLA, I think FV would win. Having said that, I would definitely go back to DTLA as it 60 miles round trip closer and we like the downtown environment. And I do love Chef Ito's creative and deeply flavorful and nutrient dense cuisine. Nothing quite like it anywhere.
I had eaten lunch at Au Lac when I was on jury duty recently and just loved the soup I had. As my husband and I had tickets for an evening concert at Disney Hall, Au Lac was the perfect spot for dinner. The ambiance is very calm and pleasant, and the service is helpful and attentive. He ordered the (raw) lasagna and I had basil rice noodles; we split the "octopus" dish. The food is so creative and delicious! Au Lac focuses on vegan Vietnamese food, but also offers vegan versions of more familiar foods like burritos, sushi, and pastas. We both loved our meals and the vegan tiramisu was a perfect end to the meal. I can't wait to go back!
I love the variety of plant-based foods. I've eaten at Au Lac Fountain Valley, and loved it, and it's fun to have a branch downtown across from the Music Center. It's fun to go there and have nice dinner after a concert. I love the atmosphere and the food.
Magnificent and sophisticated raw vegan food. Chef Ito is magic.
As an omnivore there are still good tasting options for non- vegan
For a meat lover this restaurant is a pleasant surprise. Imaginative food preparation does not capture how the staff work with raw ingredients and turn out delicious and well seasoned surprises. The shrimp is awesome and not to be overlooked.
First time to try this vegan place close to the Music Center. Loved it! The fish with nori wrap was amazing, very flavorful, and ingenious. Loved the lemongrass soup too. Will come back to try the other dishes. Waitress very friendly and accommodating!
Absolutely loved the pesto cremini, and
The marvelous balance of flavors in the Pho.
Food was pretty good, shrimp were great as were the garlic noodles and a few other things. However, the service left something to be desired. We waited several minutes to have anyone even come to the table. Wait staff would bring food to the table and ask if we had ordered what they brought. We were a table of 4 that ordered multiple things so it was hard to remember exactly what my husband had ordered. They brought a bahn mi to the table (we had talked about ordering it but never did), they asked if we had ordered it and we couldn't quite remember but we thought we had so they left it on our table (they do not serve alcohol so we were not inebriated). A couple of minutes later a waitress came over and said "this was a mistake" and TOOK the sandwich from us and likely brought it to another table which is disgusting. Anyway, would not go back.
Over promised and under delivered. I had heard great things; however it failed to even be enjoyable.
One of the best vegan restaurants in LA! I have been there many times and always had a great meal.
This is a convenient place to go before going to the Music Center. My only complaint is the strong smell of acetone from the neighboring nail salon.
We went to Au Lac prior to seeing a show at the Music Center because it was close to the theaters. We did not know anyone who had been there before. We were very happy with the food and the service! We are not vegan, but the vegan meals we had there were really good! We would definitely return to Au Lac and we recommend it to anyone who's looking for a place to eat in that area.
Have eaten there a few times before Music Center events. This last time was best meal. Flax chip, and fried tofu delish applies. Curry rice dish and kale, kimchee and roasted almond salad were really tasty! Good eating for gluten free, vegan and organic.
Went here for the vegan menu. Everything we tried was delicious and tge service was exceptional. Great spot.
I was visiting my daughter and we went to this restaurant with five of her friends. It was delicious. The service was excellent, but the food was outstanding! I do not follow a plant based diet and I was amazed at the presentation and taste of the food. I will definitely return when I am in LA.
We went before a show at the Ahmanson and were dismayed to have brought two bottles of wine with us and were not allowed to open it. The waitress was very kind and gave us a round of their non alcoholic wine.
I guess the website should reflect that they don’t serve or allow alcohol. Otherwise I loved the food and everything else.
Great time - twice! Going to the theatre this is the best spot to enjoy good food first.
Very nice vegan restaurant with lots of choices. I found the menu a bit confusing but after an explanation, we figured it out. It's DNTNLA near the music center so convenient for theater goers.
It was fantastic as usual.
Food was good but keep in mind this place does not serve wine, beer, or cocktails. The bottles they have are non alcoholic and the “drink” in the name refers to smoothies. Decor was.. interesting. It had the feeling that they took over another restaurant and just left things as is and are trying to make it work.
No alcohol. Food was ok. A bit on the heavy side. I wish they didn’t try to characterize their dishes like meat and seafood. It throws me off. Just call it what it is.
Great place to go before the theater! Delicious food and really good service.
Arrived and told the hostess we had a reservation. She had my name and showed us to a table for two in the very back of the restaurant. I had asked for a high top dining seats per the OpenTable option but didn't get that. My wife and I looked at the menu for a while but no one ever came over to take our order. We tried to make eye contact with several waiters helping other tables, but nothing. We waited a few more minutes then decided to leave. As we walked out no one even looked in our direction. Will never go back to that restaurant and if anyone asks about that place, I'll let them know about the horrible service.
Fantastic food and service. Unique vegan food. Great value
Perfect before a Sunday matinee at the LA Opera. Light fare, very tasty. Nice waitress. And vegetarian to boot. Happy I found it.
Ambience was boring and dry, great food, I thought they had a bar was told they recently closed it. Most likely will only order takeout
