Really awesome ambiance and their food is amazing. Can’t wait to be back. Staff was AMAZING!!
Our Server Andy was outstanding showing above and beyond to take care of us.
The appetizer and the main course was amazing we were nine of us, none of us had a left over. it tastes great! the presentation of every plate is beyond word.
Thanks Au Lac you guys are amazing!!
I arrived early for my reservation and was glad as it got busy at the time I scheduled. The service is just good it could've been better. Here is why.
The server didn't offer a to go bag for leftover noodles, didn't refill our water until we got the check.
When we finished our appetizer rolls she took away the lettuce and I thought that was rude of her to not even ask if we wanted to eat it...or is it just for decoration?
I will go back and request a booth for sure...at least I got that.
We love this restaurant and were so glad to introduce it to our new friends and delighted when we caught the eye of the chef to thank him for his outstanding work as he was leaving the restaurant!
Worse service ever. We were seated upon arrival. Appetizers were brought out after an appropriate wait. Service was abysmal after that. We informed our server that the two of us were sharing entrees. We were told we would get sharing plates. They never came. We were told we would get more water. It never came. When we told the next server, they apologized and said we would get sharing plates. You guessed it, they never came. We did get more water and a serving spoon after the first entree was finished. The server apologized and said hey would bring us a desert gratis. At this point it was getting time to leave for the theater, we asked if they could just take a small amount of the bill. They said no. They insisted on bringing a liquid desert which we were not interested in. They did bring the bill. When the receipt came to sign THERE WAS NO PEN. Disgusted, we decided to leave no tip as we were going to be late for the theater. A server came out with a liquid desert which we did not want. The straw that broke the camel’s back was the lack of a pen to sign the receipt when they knew we wanted to leave quickly. I have never not tipped. The patrons that were seated next to us left midway about 15 to 20 minutes after we were seated. Their table was never cleaned.
Food was served fast..
Server was happy and knowledgeable about the ingredients of a lot of dishes..
Overall a great experience
They have closed their bar and have nothing on their website to alert former customers of this change. So no alcohol. The food relies a lot on frying or is not very flavorful. Their Vegan Shrimp remains their standout but really needs a dipping sauce which they do not provide even upon request.
Food so good, I just might become vegan! Truly a lovely experience all round!
This is a must visit for a vegan high end cuisine. Delicious and medicinal teas.
Fully vegan - 2 of the dishes exceeded expectation, but the entree (Lemon grass mock fish) kind of missed the "comfort vibe" it was going for in terms of composition -- just didn't come together in harmony 100%.
Atmosphere nice, service nice, price - will it is DTLA near all the museums/concert halls - so fair.
No alcohol - but maybe a nice Kombucha selection for the drinks selection would of added bubbly/refreshment vs. just the juices/shakes - at least for the dinner vibe.
What a fabulous discovery to find a gem in such close proximity to The Music Center! The food is fresh and delicious, the decor is lovely, the menu is varied, and it's all a mere block away – easy walking distance even for my older parents – to the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Dorothy Chandler Pavillion, etc. I highly recommend this restaurant!
nice looking, food creative but a little spicy for my husband, service was good and quick
Definitely not what i was expecting for my first vegan meal. Everything was delicious and the staff courteous and happy. Went there around 9:15 pm. The place was quiet and food and service excellent even for that late of a dinner, being that the place closes at 10 pm. Would definitely visit again.
This is literally one of the best restaurants I've EVER been to. Chef Ito is an absolute genius. I took two friends with me who had never been before and they could not stop raving over the food. The interior is absolutely gorgeous as well and the prices are incredibly reasonable for the quality of food. Go here if you want to have a very special evening.
It is good food, but only some people would like it, and I do miss being able to have an alcoholic beverage before my dinner
One of my favorite restaurants.... The staff is eclectic and make for a very interesting evening. This is the tastiest and one of the most innovative plant-based restaurants I have ever dined...vegan or other. The food was prepared divinely! My favorites were the Octopus and the shrimp followed by the Ginger Mint Bean Rice. OMG!!! A lot of vegan places use a lot of tofu which is not good for you in mass quantities, this one doesn't they use inventive ways to create vegan masterpieces. The drinks are delish as well. The only thing, I wish they did have is wine or at least let you bring your own for a corkage fee, other than that everything was superb.
I went to Au Lac recently before an LA Philharmonic matinee concert. It's a great location. I loved the food and selection. The kale salad was the best of the several entrees we ordered. The service was great. And the prices were very reasonable. And it's only one block from Disney Hall. I would definitely eat there again.
We have dined at Au Lac many times and recommended it to friends who have raved about the food. On this particular visit, Michael was our waiter. He was very friendly and attentive.
Great good. Excellent service. Definitely recommend.
What a gem! We were a party of four, ordered two starters and each ordered (and tasted) a different entree. Everything was delicious. Beautiful plating, loads of flavor.
Absolutely LOVE this restaurant! My boyfriend and I make the trip at least once a month to eat here, best vegan restaurant around!
Was shocked to know that the first hour of lunch there was no coconut milk for some of the entrees on the menu.
Disney Concert Hall show
Service was slow despite not being busy. The food was ok- something that was supposed to be pretty good was bascially just fried mushrooms on rice with some sauce on top.
I’ve eaten here two other times and the food has been great. This time the food was so bad that when we left both my partner and I felt ill. Instead of using fresh ingredients they processed vegetarian food to taste like “pork” or “fish”. Perhaps they changed chefs or their approach to plant based meals but either way people shouldn’t feel sick after eating
Great - thank you!
Amazing vegan food with lots of variations, so there will be more than enough to choose from for every type of foodie. The value is amazing and we had a great dinner for $60 (before tip). Waiter was very nice and helpful but in the end it got so busy we had to wait quite a while for the check. Overall I can recommend this restaurant a lot.
Service was excellent. Waitress was friendly and informative. Looking around, the clientele seemed like various types of LA eccentrics. Very strange.
I got the ramen, which was bland. My date got the burrito, which gave her an upset stomach.
The decor seemed like they were going for a fancy vibe, but that atmosphere was completely disregarded by much of the clientele who dress as casually as they want. Not my kind of place, I won’t be going back.
Not a vegan but food, service and value were all outstanding. Sent
I came here with some friends for a business meeting. This was the second time I've here here, and sure enough, they did not disappoint. We ordered the vegan fish with eggplant in a claypot, which was delicious. We also ordered the octopus, which was kinda spicy, a plus for us. We also ordered the Ido burrito, which was big and shareable. We also ordered the vermicelli dish--I forgot the name, but it was very tasty as well. All of my friends loved it. We also ordered tiramisu for dessert. Quite delicious for vegan a dessert, according to my friend. I thought it was perfect.
Great food, very good service!! We went with a party of 4 and none of us are vegetarian, but the food was delicious! Not crazy about the juice drinks--stick with water! Very convenient location for Disney Hall, Ahmanson Theater, Mark Taper Forum and Dorothy Chandler Pavillion.
We thought the restaurant served a poor imitation of SE Asian food. The biggest problem was the quality of the ingredients and relative lack of care in preparation. Highlight was a chocolate desert.
Very nice restaurant.
I recommended here to my friend.
On thier web sight reservation page,
there was written about LA and OC restaurants both,
and I reservated for OC one but it was reserved for LA one.
It is confusavel if it is for LA or OC.
When I arrived OC one, cleark told me it was reserved to LA one.
He was nice and seated us soon so it was no problem.
I reserved from i-phone.
My husband and I went to Au Lac at DTLA for dinner before a show at the Ahmanson Theater later that night. We made an early reservation and the the greeter put us in a cramped table in the corner. It was odd because there were not too many people around so we wondered why he put us in small space. Our waiter Adrian was super nice. He came to change our seat to a booth where we had more space. The food was delicious. The shrimp and sushi appetizer were excellent! We shared the lasagna but felt like it had too much sauce. This restaurant does not have an alcohol license in case you are wondering. The tiramisu was delicious! We had an overall wonderful experience here and would recommend it for vegan lovers.
Fresh, innovative, delicious. The fooda at Au Lac is always a step above and a vibratory celebration. First you nose thanks you, then your mouth, then your whole body.
Great concept and some amazing dishes ("shrimp" and "octopus"). The execution came up short elsewhere. Waiter struggled with calculating the bill correctly, one guest's entree didn't come out so we had to ask for it, no liquor license wasn't the end of the world, but would have been nice to have a toast for my birthday. Bread on bahn mi was really soggy, yikes. I'm vegan so I support the community 100, and I am stoked this place is here and doing well, but I don't think I'll go back in a hurry.
The food was amazing.
And, the waiter was the most sweetest and educative waiter that I've ever had.
Both food and service are very good here. There's a definite high end flair, but the pricing is still reasonable. They adhere to a plant based menu that includes a few raw choices as well (the lasagna is good if you like raw). It's also right in the thick of things by the Dorothy Chandler pavilion (music center) and Walt Disney Hall. This means finding quick and easy parking can be an issue but they validate parking in a convenient lot under their building. You do need to turn over your car keys for this lot however.
1st time all vegan! Took friends to dinner because she is vegan and we were all surprised at how beautiful the restaurant is, the extensive menu (wish the wine had a bit of alcohol in them), a very helpful and personable waiter, all around enjoyable and the final surprise- the total check amt. Now I see why the room had so many young people dining. GOOD FOR ALL.
The ambiance and food is amazing, especially when u r a vegan, beautiful place, my favorite restaurant
