It was beautiful, amazing amazing food and great service and the restaurant is super pretty.
I went to this restaurant because of all the positive ratings....thankfully I did! The restaurant is clean and spacious, to start. Our server, Michael, was SO kind and helpful. He told us what his favorite dishes were and or course we ordered them ALL! Every dish was incredibly flavorful and the presentation of the dishes was beautiful. My mom couldn't believe it was completely plant based...honestly neither could I. I'll definitely be back many times and plan to send my friends.
Let the staff know we had theater tickets and they helped us avoid items that take longer to prepare.
We had egg rolls, eggplant vermicelli and a raw lasagna. The egg roll and eggplant get 5 stars, the raw lasagna was meh so a 3.(some of the layers were tasty others only soso)
The food is amazing, the atmosphere is pleasant and the service is fantastic. The only thing that could make Au Lac better is a liquor license because a glass of wine with dinner would be great. However, the elixirs are delicious and there's a wine bar across the street so it all balances out.
We've enjoyed Au Lac in Orange County for years and we were so please to find another next to the Music Center!
It was fresh and flavorful and we felt great after eating. This will be our go-to place each time we come to the opera or symphony.
The ambience is calm and serene with high ceilings and the lighting complements the mood.
The food was great and we enjoyed this evening with visiting family.
Good choice for downtown Los Angeles, especially if you have a vegetarian person amongst you.
I've been enjoying Au Lac for several years, but this time I brought friends, vegan and non vegan. The non vegan says, he'll be back for the Garlic/Basil Noodles. Everything was delicious. I miss the full bar, and I missed Mai.
Delicious! No qualifier need (IOW, don't need to say "delicious vegan food" -- it's just delicious food).
Highly recommend. Must try the "shrimp."
The food was amazing. Michael was a great server as well. Definitely recommend.
We come to Au Lac every other time we frequent the Ahmanson for theater. Always good food with fantastic service. They do tend to "hide" the heat of various dishes and have been caught be less than fully descriptive menu listings. Had a "pork loin" that had sauteed onions on it that were sauteed with jalapenos but the menu didn't say that. Certain other dishes that we decribed by staff as "not spicy" left my lips and tongue burning (although I must note that I'm a spicy light weight) They also list "espresso" on the menu but don't actually have it. Just Illy coffee and no decaf.
We were late due to traffic and told the waitress we had to rush. She suggested which foods could be made more quickly, and we loved everything and got out in time for the theater.
This is one of our favorite upscale vegan places in L.A. The food is truly delicious and beautifully prepared and presented. And the spacious dining area allows for quiet and privacy.
Yummy = Au Lac.
This was a real treat! I went with my family of carnivores- me (a vegan) plus 6 others. If it was not my birthday there is no way that I would of convinced them to come to a plant based restaurant with me. I was completely excited to be there and wanted to go in a large group so that between us all we would get to sample and try a large portion of the menu, however I remained nervous the restaurant would not survive the skeptical views of my family.
Our waitress was so kind and patient and answered numerous questions about the menu for all of us. We started with the salt n pepper yam shrimp, friend fries, eggrolls, and crimini pesto mushrooms. Each one of these items were delicious and immediately won over my family. By the time our dinner entrees were served everyone at the table had relaxed and were happy we had come to try something new.
Deserts were also amazing! Definitely will be back!
Lovely people. I always feel at home here. I'm coming back to try everything. The waiters are top notch and the food when you dine in is exemplary. The Flax chips for a to-go was not the best due to portion size. But I bought all sorts of dishes that day so it wasn't a disappointment.
Wow! What a great vegan find in DTLA! We enjoyed three dishes.
(1) Octopus: Seriously addictive. This one dish will drag me back to the restaurant in the near future
(2) Phở: tasty but not very original
(3) Choconut X-tasy: scrumptious dessert. Satisfying way to end the meal
First time trying vegetarian. Was nicely surprised by the flavor. Will definitely try again.
We always go here after the theater either the Ahmanson or the Mark Taper and it’s a wonderful restaurant. The ambience is great and the food is healthy and delicious. And no animals have to die in order to eat it.
They’ve lost their liquor license more than a year ago so we did miss their refreshing cocktails, however the food was as delicious as ever. We like the octopus and the yam shrimp the best. The garlic noodles are also delicious.
Great food. Average service. Waitress acknowledged that we were pre-Theatre diners as we sat but we had numerous spans of time when no one was evident. These enclosed booths seem nice but you cannot see if get the attention of any staff and they don’t come by neatly often enough. And they forgot to follow through with requests.
Very pleasant and friendly host, very sweet waitress. Food was good, a little on the salty side. I wish there were more beverage selection. The hot tea we ordered was very weak, watery and lukewarm, we hardly tasted the tea. The bathroom was well appointed and clean, but smelled strongly or sewer. Maybe they had some issues with the plumbing. A little in the $$ side, but I am glad we went there.
I'd recommend small parties of 2 or less. It seems like the staff can't handle large parties. Our food came about and hour after we ordered. When we received our food many of our dishes were cold. Lastly, and the most entertaining events of the night, a dish was delivered to our table and briskly removed/taken by another staff member to take to another table.
I enjoyed the food but I'm definitely not bringing my staff back, maybe just one or at max two friends.
I go out of my way to find adventurous innovative vegan food; au lac is amongst the best I have ever found. Superlative food and service.
Service is horrible. Nobody pays attention. Taking a very long time for everything.
It is what it "is" for the Vegan with pleasant surroundings and staff.
This was some of the best vegetarian fare I have had. Though dishes were posing in some instances as meat dishes, the food was presented in an appetizing way that avoided feeling false or synthetic.
Food is delicious and beautifully presented. Shrimp is amazing!
Have eaten at Au Lac 2 or 3 times before a show at The Music Center. All meals have been delicious. The lack of bar drinks is a little bit of a detriment to enjoying the meal, as we enjoy a cocktail for an evening out at the theater. But, otherwise, always very good.
Great for dining before performances at the Music Center; an easy walk across the street. Food is fresh, delicious and well-presented. Service is exceptional, especially for those of us looking for advice and guidance from knowledgeable and friend staff. I went a second time because I was so happy with my first experience. I see many more visits in my future.
Wow. It was amazing. I’m a meat eater and I’d eat here again. We tried a variety of things. The banh mi was so good. The shrimp tasted like shrimp! The fish was different the texture wasn’t fish, but the flavor was good none the less.
I’d eat here again gladly.
Service was disastrous. We ordered food at 6:15 and our main order only came out at 7. We had to rush and finish before our show
Food was okay. The “bbq roll” ended up being a roll with a traditional Thai peanut sauce.
Food was unbelievable, and our server Michael was so nice and gave us amazing recommendations
Au Lac is the best. We often come before a show at the Dorothy Chandler or Ahmanson and they are beyond accomodating. The food is excellent and we always look forward to coming back.
The food was amazing! Fresh and delicious. Will definitely come back.
Already brought a vegetarian friend who loved it
I was so impressed with the food and service. I'll definitely be back!
This is one of the BEST restaurants in Los Angeles. We had a great birthday dinner, the six of us, for myself and my friends. The service was pristine, family style is best at this restaurant. If you're vegan and/or gluten free, it doesn't get any better than this place. Get the friend fries, the octopus, the paella, the ginger noodles, curried rice, OMG it's all so so good! Thank you Au Lac!
Took a non-vegan here for the first time and he said it was the best plant-based food he'd ever had! Never disappointed at Au Lac!
I was impressed with the food quality. I had the "pork chop" and my son had the "chicken" parm. Both were excellent in taste and presentation. My only complaint was the service was really slow and we ended up late for the show we were going to. It was a Saturday night but the place wasn't really that busy. Since this restaurant is in the theater district, I think it's important to make sure customers are served in a reasonable amount of time and that the check comes as soon as requested.
Amazing food & staff!!!
The food was wonderful as always but I have a problem with OpenTable they did not have our reservation
