About ATwater Tavern
New waterfront restaurant in Dogpatch, coming spring 2016
"Chef Ed Vigil goal with the cuisine for ATwater Tavern is to obtain uniquely Bay area and California ingredients, handle them with finesse and passion by our highly trained culinary team, to then deliver our guests with a evocative and unique food story experience.
We will ground our culinary focus in the story of San Francisco, its people, its waters and its history. Reaching out to the lush California regions surrounding us, we will use red oak fire in a historic Santa Maria grill to cook our storied foods in our profound ""local"" way. So we will then strive every day to achieve this goal through classic techniques of execution, and obtaining the freshest possible quality ingredients from our local partners.

ATwater Tavern Ratings and Reviews
We went with a group of 9 for my boyfriends birthday. While we were enjoying our meal, my friend found a tiny slug in his burger. We assume it was in the lettuce as it crawled around on our friends plate. A manager never came to the table, nothing was said to my friend besides at the end of the meal when they removed his meal from the bill. Anyone with a side salad did not finish their meal and my friend was clearly disgusted with the experience. No one wanted to cause a scene since we were celebrating my boyfriend, but needless to say, we will never be returning.
Great patio, nice spot when weather is nice. Waitress was really nice and didn't seem to be her fault, but drinks took 20 minutes, food took over an hour, and avocado toast was initially missing the avocado, which was bizarre. Cool spot, would probably come back for cocktails but not the best dining experience.
Hit up the Atwater for Sunday Brunch again with family in town. Once more, it didn't disappoint. The lovely weather (between days of rain) didn't hurt either as we were able to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air on the patio and a view of the bay. Food was excellent as always and served with a smile!
Our server was amazing and attentive and everyone in my party enjoyed apps and entrees and the specialty cocktails. There were two hostesses...the person that originally seated us forgot to update OpenTable that we had arrived and was confused when an hour later I told her I had received the "no show" email. The other hostess was amazing and was so helpful when we asked to move from outside to inside.
They tried really hard but what they really should have done is called us and said "hey, you noted it was a special occasion and we're really understaffed so we won't be able to accomodate a seating request with a view". We chose this restaurant for a) the view (we ended up sitting at a table facing a construction site) b) the gluten-free pancakes (they changed the menu one week ago and did not update it online). The two reasons we came to eat here did not manifest and the large number of flies did not help the ambiance.
We go to Atwater frequently, when the Giants are not playing at home as it is right behind the ball park. Good service, friendly atmosphere. I always order the mussels and clams without the clams. The portion size has however gotten much smaller...but not the price. We used to be able to share but not so much now. Still great flavor so worth ordering. Good beer selection on tap. Recommend the Fries which are a mix of russet and sweet potatoes with a great blue cheese dipping sauce.
We came in for a late lunch/early dinner and they were very unprepared for the transition from lunch to dinner. We were so excited since the food from the Yelp reviews looked so great. We came in and were VERY DISAPPOINTED. First of all, most of the items we saw from the Yelp reviews were not on the menu. Second, we were told that many of the options were not available, but only after we ordered them. The server was also not very friendly and had to go back and forth to the chef or manager to ask about various things like the specials and if they were in stock. She was very slow and she made us feel like we were doing her a disservice asking questions. We ended up leaving without ordering food because all of the options we wanted were out of stock and we did not feel welcome there. Feels like they should just shut down food service in between if they can't get their act together post-lunch and pre-dinner.
The restaurant space itself is beautiful and the views from the roof and deck are fantastic. We really wanted to love it, but the service turned us off.
We enjoyed our birthday celebration because we were seated in a corner and it was relatively quiet. We had an infant with us and she was happy in daddy's lap or in the provided high chair. Our first server was knowledgeable, possibly the afternoon manager. Our second server was inexperienced but very friendly. Food-wise the winners were the Frito Misto, the flatbread, the mussels and the steak entre. Not so good were the savory and sweet fries. The fries were warmed over and slightly soggy. We should have sent them back, back our infant was ready for some food and, because they were not hot, she could eat them right away. The desserts were just OK which was disappointing since our server said that their desserts were great. Given the atmosphere I thought the prices were high. Parking was also an issue. We were able to park next door in a No Parking area after getting permission from the owner. There is another restaurant in the area that I prefer over ATWater based on this experience.
We were disappointed in the food. Frito Misto description was not what we received. For $18, and based on the description in the menu we were expecting all seafood but received onion rings, potatoes, veggies, a couple of shrimp, a few pieces of calamari. Sauce was not very good. Overall, menu not a great description of what we received.
Came here for the view, but the dining room does not have a view, just the patios which are not open at night. The lyonnaise salad was very good. The frito mist was good, but not hot enough. the burger was good as well. Service was fine. But the place is nothing special without the view. Come during the day & sit outside to enjoy the view.
Wonderful lazy afternoon by the water - great modern, casual design, tasty dishes both light and substantial, great cocktails, good wines (love the Saintsbury), and good waiter - kitchen got jammed but they comped extra dishes and wine, explained as we went.
It was a nice early evening dinner with excellent service. Things can get a bit loud later in the evening but an early evening dinner is just right for a dinner-movie date! The food was well-prepared and quite tasty and the service was just right, attentive but not over-apparent.
We arrived a little late after calling to let them know. Upon arrival she told me I could use the bathroom because "this is going to take me a while" in regards to finding out reservation. We ordered the porter house steak medium and it came out raw. Our serve apologized and said he thought he heard me say medium rare. Even if I had said medium rare, that steak was raw! He took it back to go cook for longer. At that point I wasn't even in the mood to eat anymore. I was disappointed in the food, not our waiter he was very nice. I definitely wouldn't go back, nothing there wowed me.
This was a very disappointing meal overall. While the crab cakes were great and the Nicoise salad was good, the mixed fried seafood and vegetables was horrible. The breading was excessive and it was tasteless. There was a tiny smear of aioli, but not enough to add flavor to the tasteless mess. We didn't even really want this dish, but it was pressed upon us by our server who disappeared after she took the order. The service also left a lot to be desired. Barely anyone came around during the meal. Also all three dishes arrived at once. There was hardly enough room on the table.
I first thought that wine on tap was odd, but I'll always try it first at this place. Good wine. The oysters and cheese plates are really good as well. The pork chop was a bit under cooked and could have been seasoned more, but the truffle fries and risotto were delicious.
Very good on my third visit and the very accommodating hostess gave me a better table than I was originally assigned.
Downside is walking through a parking lot to get into a restaurant. One time I did it during a downpour and wasn't very happy when I got inside.
Second Time there. Food was cold. Had to send back two plates twice. Finally gave up and shared what we had ordered. Table of four with a cocktail each was $400 - lil pricey for what we ordered. Servers acted like they were doing us favors by serving what we had ordered. They had two people come by and offer to take our drink orders AFTER we had been sitting there and already ordered drinks. Lol. Maybe it's still ramping up?
We stopped by after a day of shopping. Great that they serve food all day as we got there around 3 for lunch. However they do only serve a limited menu at that time. Burger was pretty good. However the tuna poke was more like a slightly cooked ceviche. I was expecting raw tuna. Good place to get food before/after Luzia which is right across the street. They have blankets if you sit outside, nice touch! John the owner was great...walked around and introduced himself to new customers and also seemed to know a lot of the regulars too.
