This is an average hotel restaurant trying to pretend that it is not an average hotel restaurant. The steak was average at best. The host and the bartender did no favors to themselves or the restaurant by hyping up the chef (ex Peter Luger), the food (they pushed porterhouse) and the service ('Luiz is the best server in Manhattan'). Bringing a sushi menu with a steak menu shows that they specialize in neither. The décor must be 10 or 20 years old: warn out carpet, old chairs and tables. The place is a bit less expensive than up-market steakhouses, but it is not cheap either. When considering the price-quality balance, Atto does not rank high in my book.

First let me say that I don’t wish anyone to be harmed by my review. I understand the large investment necessary to open and run a restaurant. We walked in 6:00 to an empty dining room and had the feeling that we should leave. I believe in instinct but there were 6 of us and we stayed. The server was inept, asking for drink orders without giving us menus or a wine list. An old fashioned was ordered as well as an overpriced bottle of William Hill Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine was poured but the old fashioned was nowhere to be found until we reminded our server. We had to request bread and butter. The small amount of bread was sliced and toasted (close to burnt) Italian bread and the butter tasted of the refrigerator. To start, we ordered fried calamari, a small passable serving, Caesar salad, another small portion and not good and a slice of fatty and not sizzling bacon. We ordered porterhouse for 3 and asked if it would be 1 large steak, the response was yes but 2 steaks were served. The steaks were incinerated on one side and pale on the other. They had the requisite funk but the platter did not sizzle as promised but rather it sat on a bar near our table for several minutes until the server was available. Please note that at this time there were a total of 3 occupied tables. Table #3 was served a sizzling steak. There was a lackluster hostess in view who did nothing to help our server except pour water at our request and look at her phone. When I mentioned to the server that he needed help, trying to be understanding but really getting annoyed, he said that the busboy called out. This restaurant was chosen because the menu has more options than Peter Luger ie chicken paillard and pasta, both good. Publicity states that there is a previous association between the owner and PL, but unfortunately many lessons have not been learned.

From the fact that there was no bartender at the bar to being served frozen crabmeat, at market price.. do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Went there on July 6 with great expectations. We arrived at 7:00. We were the only table there and when we left we were still the only table there. Service was okay. The waiter had to check if there were any specials which they only had baked oysters. Appetizers were ok. Main dish was tuna. Very tough and not very flavorful. Other couple had burgers and they said it was okay. The manager was very nice. After he asked if we enjoyed the meal and received my response he gave us dessert on the house. Will not be back

Meat eaters rejoice Being greeted warmly by the owner and attentively treated by the serving staff set the tone for the evening. The menu is varied with a few vegetarian options included but undoubtedly the main attraction is the meat section of the menu, We started with sea bass ceviche and crab and avocado sushi shared as tempters. The entrees were equally attractive; one ventured into the fish section with a perfectly grilled tuna steak; and I was tempted by the lamb chops which were served as ordered, bloody, and they were outstanding, 11/2 inch thick and succulent. The chops were accompanied by a heavy serrated steak knife, totally redundant, as a teaspoon could have cut through the meat which was so tender. A relatively short wine list focussing on chardonnay and malbec, but with a couple of interesting oddities. The setting is in a hotel, with separate access to the bar and restaurant, with interesting decor on the walls, some apparently created by the owner, the dining area has approximately 50 covers, with tables well spaced. Definitely, will be going back and soon!
