Why they're an Icon

From the OpenTable editors: Chef and co-owner Johnny Courtney cooked at the iconic Canlis for four years before opening this restaurant, which has been dubbed one of the hottest in the country by Eater, Esquire, and the New York Times. In a historic Craftsman home painted moss green, Courtney and his team feature local farmers and fishermen in rustic dishes like rosette cookies with sweet onion jam, Dungeness crab on pain de mie, and glazed maitake mushrooms. Pair it with one of the exciting cocktails or a selection from the wine list that includes plenty of representation from Washington.

Food was overall disappointing. Not sure why the Seattle Times gave it stellar review. The rosette cookie was nice The crumpet was breakfast food The black cod was all but forgettable and the pork collar was tough and very under seasoned. We ordered a white wine, it was not only not chilled it was room temp! The baked Alaska was the playskool version: with a mealy cake and no flambe. No ice cream either: just whipped cream. And two cherries—this is Washington. There should be cherries. The stroopwafel (their secret dessert) was stale and flavorless. Left us wondering if they’d ever actually had a stroopwafel. The real kicker though, was they were playing bad disco all night (I mean like “get out!” bad disco), and even though we were the last diners in the restaurant, the executive chef declined to change the music or even turn it down. No reason for a second visit. Would rather go to Tomo or Spinasse.

It was our fifth time there. There will be many more visits. Everything was spectacularly good - from the craft cocktails to the appetizers to the mains. All remarkable and delicious.

I’m so happy I gave Atoma a try for my bday dinner! I moved to Seattle from Chicago, and I hate to say most restaurants in Seattle I’ve been to are mediocre in comparison . This was not the case with Atoma! Finally, one of the few restaurants I’ve gone to where everything I ordered was delicious and I didn’t think to myself, “ I could make this at home” or “I’ve had better”. The house favorite Rosette cookie lives up to the hype, definitely get one. We really loved the grilled cucumbers (we ate this so quickly), crab toast, and spiced maitake mushroom dishes. The maitake was smoky with a really nice texture to it. The spot prawns were lighter and really nice too. My partner had the roasted chicken with squash blossoms and mole, and he loved it. I had a bite of the squash blossom and tasted the mole, and it was delicious. We’re kind of snobby about mole as we’ve a lot of homemade mole from Mexican friends, and I’m the flavor and texture we’re silky and the right balance of flavors. I don’t even like cherries and somehow liked them in the mole. The cocktails (both NA and with alcohol) were great. The Fievel goes West is delicious if you like whisky, and my non-drinking partner like the It’s Grape(fruit) to See You best of the NA cocktails. Can’t wait to come back and share with friends and family :)

Really nice setting. I love what they did to greatly improve over the old Tilth space. Small menu, but good variety among the limited offerings. Good, friendly and enthusiastic service, but had to flag the server down for another drink after having an empty cocktail glass for a while; though it didn’t seem all that busy and they were just putting glassware away for a while. Overall, the food was just good. Very small portions of Duck ($50) and pork collar ($45), cooked properly and seasoned nicely, each with a tiny veg/root veg side that amounted to a garnish, with nothing particularly unique or interesting beyond pleasant if uninspired presentation; $23 Negroni that was too syrupy sweet, then they were out of all but one beer, with only three beers on the menu; and a very nice and unique chocolate+angostura sorbet and madeira desert wine to finish. We spent ~$240 for 2 people—only one of us had alcohol—and left not hungry, but also not close to full. For something really exceptional, this would be unremarkable, but it was just good and therefore felt like a trendy status experience more than great dining experience. Beautiful, hip, chill spot to bring a date, I’ll say.

Thank you for visiting and for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed the setting and appreciated the service, even if we missed the mark on attentiveness at times. Regarding pricing—we understand it’s a big part of how guests experience a restaurant. Our prices reflect the true cost of sourcing from local farms and paying fair, sustainable wages to our team in a city where operating costs are among the highest in the country. We know that may not resonate with everyone, but these values are at the heart of what we do. We hope to welcome you back again sometime.

Great dining experience. We sat at the bar and loved being able to watch the chefs. The bartender gave great recommendations and gave us some special drinks and food items for our anniversary. It’s felt comfortable, casual, with upscale food. Wonderful spot and we’ll be back!

Enjoyed the food and the price point - we tried almost everything on the menu (only one main), and everything was enjoyable. Perfect for all occasions, not the right place for larger than a group of 6, 4 would be better. Its the right mix of casual, PNW local foods and delicious flavor profiles. Excited to go again.
