The hostess said my reservation was for 2 people, but it wasn't (I can see on the pentacle app). Therefore we got stuck at the bar which was uncomfortable for 3 people. Food was good, but too loud and uncomfortable. Doesn't seem like a nice place to work.
Food was good but our table wasn’t ready for 45 minutes after our reservation time
A wonderful Mexican kitchen! Looking forward to my next visit.
It is over priced. If you order around $15 taco, surprisingly you will get only one taco. You know that is not real mexican and it was delicious but not worth for $15 for one taco. Service was good but again we paid $80 for casual lunch.
The food is amazing! Ambiance is great
The food is great but the service could be better. It might be because we sat outside but our waiter was not super responsive. And there was some significant wait for our food.
i thought this was going to have the same quality than Cosme, I tried some of the same dishes and they were poorly executed. For examples the quesadillas and guacamole where not their best. Also if you are going to charge $18 for a mushroom quesadilla it better be outstanding, hopefully ill come back.
I was super excited to visit a place where a Mexican American chef was represented as we lack so much representation in different industries in the US. I started off with a quesadilla which I though needed a salsa with it. The suadero tacos were really good, the carne was nice and crispy though it was a bit to greasy for my taste, I would recommend adding more lime so customers can have a chance to cut through the fat. The enchiladas were PERFECT, I am usually not a big fan of chicken in them but the chicken in these enchiladas was so good. It was a nice balance with the tortilla and salsa verde, also I love how they had three enchiladas the quantity was great. I was very disappointed at the service I received from the waiter, he was rude and condescending and never really checked up on us. Even though I was in a Mexican restaurant I constantly felt inferior due to the service provided by this waiter. I was finishing up my drinks after finishing my food when he unexpectedly gave me the check without me asking, I honestly felt like I was being kicked out. It was so disappointing. My partner also noticed this behavior. Luckily the hostess noticed it too and he approached our table to take the check back and told us to take our time. I really liked the attention to detail that the hostess gave, he was amazing. However, these little things matter in a place where a mexican women should feel confortable and I though I should bring this to your attention because I would hate to know other people like me were given a service that felt forced.
Cosme is much better option.
I think Atla was incredibly underwhelming. I had high hopes for it, because Pujol, but the service was no bueno and the food was just OK. Probably would not go again.
We were expecting better food essentially. The service was excellent but the food just lacked punch and savory, usually associated with Mexican food
Server was awkward and revealed a bit of personal information that was inappropriate in a dining setting. The food was ok, although portions were very small. The mole was way too sweet. It tasted like a dessert taco.
The food was good, however our experience less than stellar. He brought the wrong drink on two separate rounds. The biggest issue, however, was that hair was visible in the food he had just brought to the table and when we immediately pointed it out, asking if he could bring us a new one, he asked if we would be ok with the one with the hair if he removed the hair for us. Cringe-worthy.
Given all the glowing reviews and hype that Atla has received since it opened, we were extremely disappointed by our experience. The small space is uncomfortably crowded, with the round tables so closely placed that it’s impossible for people to get out of their seats without bumping into each other. The staff is neither particular friendly or helpful and so affectedly casual that one would think it’s an inexpensive restaurant, which it is not. The food tastes good but not even close to being worth the prices charged. Atla charges $15 for a single small shrimp taco or $20 for a bean tamal that is about a third the size of a normal sized tamal and only marginally more tasty than what one could find in an average higher end Mexican restaurant in just about any major urban area. There is literally nothing special about the decor, ambience or service to justify the higher price other than the fact that it was created by Enrique Olivera, who created both Pujol and Cosme, both of which are far better restaurants. It’s one thing to pay $250 for a meal for two people, it’s another to pay $250 for a meal and to leave feeling unsatisfied and ripped off. When it comes to the hype surrounding Atla, it’s safe to say that the emperor has no clothes.
We had an amazing meal at ATLA! The service couldn’t be better! I would have given it a perfect score except the sound level is very high. That being said, I would go back in a heartbeat!!!👍👍
Food and ambiance are always phenomenal but I do feel it’s a bit overpriced.
I did also let our concierge know this: Atla was a huge disappointment. A foodie and chef myself, I found Atla recommended on Time Out. I expected to be at least somewhat impressed. They sent the wrong cocktail, the sent one wrong appetizer out of four, the forgot a dish and they recommended a dish that they assured me did not have the one ingredient we said we don’t eat, and it was right on top. The dishes were either too salty or they neglected to season them. The staff was inattentive. We will never patron nor recommend this restaurant. I recommend you look elsewhere. Our concierge told us afterward that they do not recommend Atla for dinner for their guests based on their own experiences there.
Make your reservation now! Great place for lunch or dinner. Excellent service. Not your typical Mexican but the type of place for foodies.
Definitivamente espectacular! El guacamole, los tacos de camarones y pescado exquisitos. Tuvimos la fortuna de encontrarnos al chef Enrique Olvera en el restaurante y nos firmó su libro. Sin duda magnífica experiencia
Everything about Atla was fabulous. The servers were friendly and attentive and the food was next level. The shrimp taco was the best I've ever had. It's a must-go.
While visiting NYC , decided to try this placed based upon some reviews I had read. Our hostess sat us at the bar instead of st s table, in spite of us requesting a table and there were a couple of tables open. The bar would not have been terrible had not for it being st the very end, where the waitstaff exit the kitchen to the dinning room. I was being bumped into continuously and even had a plate of food skim my elbow.
The resturant itself is pretty plain. It was very load. We could hardly carry on a conversation. The temperature in the dinning room was stiffling, my wife even wondered if they had the heat on in July.
We ordered the bean tamal ,the shrimp taco, and the beef cocina, as well as two different kinds of Margaritas and a glass of white wine.
The hana I was good , but nothing special. The shrimp taco was probably the best thing we ate. The cocina was , like the tamal, was ok, but nothing rememerable about it. I have had dozen of carne asada's in the 7-10 dollar range in Texas that would blow this away. Same for the margaritas, nothing special, in spite of both of them being billed as two of the top in NYC.
Overall, it was our worst meal in NYC in 5 days.
A bit expensive! Very good margheritas, good and tasty food
We love Atla, and anything Enrique Olvera has had his hands in. The food here is excellent, and we loved our server. But it’s woeful not to have an adequate air conditioner during a New York Summer! This brought our experience way down.
It's a nice place for very nice looking Mexican food, some of which tastes pretty good. But given the cost and the hype, nice means just a little better than so so for a little too much $$
An all-around bad experience I have to hope was a fluke. From high indoor temperatures to tepid food; from being out of half the menu to saying it's last call five minutes after we sat down. Save your money and go for Atla's much, much better sibling, Cosme.
I don’t get the hype.
The food was fine at best.
The guacamole was fantastic. At 18 USD however majorly overpriced
The quesadilla was boring. Found soggy chicken skin and little bones in there. Gross. Waiter had no comment when he saw us leaving that on the plate, but we also didn’t say anything
The taco was fine
The mitake was good
Price was crazy for a simple meal. We expected the price but thought the food would be worth it. It wasn’t
Service was not very friendly. The woman that served us couldn’t break a smile and seemed in general annoyed.
The guys seemed more engaged but they didn’t serve us
Considering how hyped the restaurant is online, it was almost completely empty
I guess I know why
Terrible lugar, nada recomendable, no hay refresco, él servicios terribles y la comida deja mucho que desear, nada que ver con otros, no lo recomiendo
Really disappointing experience. I had heard a lot of great reviews and was very underwhelmed.
Counter service was beyond slow and inconsistent. Our server did not explain how the menu worked and did not have any recommendations on what to try. He acted annoyed when we requested another drink (vs offering us one) and had questions on the menu. I had to ask the host for an explanation and reco's. The food was bland - was not impressed with either of the dishes we ordered. Drinks were OK. Seating was tight and it was very noisy. 1 bathroom/toilet for the entire restaurant. I would not recommend going to ATLA and do not plan to go back.
DELICIOUS 😋 FOOD!!! Will be back for sure! Oaxacan regional cuisine. Wine from Mexico 🇲🇽 was amazing 😉!
Given the rave reviews for Atla, I found it surprisingly average. Some items were good, some poor, but only one I thought was outstanding. Having grown up in a Mexican household in Southern California, I had truly expected some world-class Mexican (or Mexican inspired) cooking. What I got was shockingly average. The mole, was not very complex and overly sweet. It also needed more fat to create proper mouthfeel and texture. The guacamole, although fine enough, was no better than any good Mexican restaurant cold prepare - although the blue corn chips served with the guacamole were excellent. The most disappointing dish was the fish Milanese with cucumbers. The fish was overcooked, over breaded, and flavorless. It could have been on the children's menu at Red Lobster, although the cucumber ceviche was well prepared and was a nice balance of sweet and savory. My favorite dish was not on the menu - short rib tacos, which were beautifully seasoned, tender, and delicious. They were served on a freshly made corn tortillas. Although I had several of the signature cocktails, I am no expert in cocktails so cannot make any knowledgable comments, although my guests thought they were good, albeit a bit short on the pour. Overall, Atla was good, but there are certainly better Mexican style restaurants in the city.
I loved everything, but a restroom was very dirty. I couldn’t use.
Great place to taste high-end Mexican food
Excellent gourmet mexican food! I highly recommend this place although the tables are very small and cramped.
Great tasting food. Portions little small
La host nos atendió grave Muy mal La comida muy buena. Pero por la atención no se si regresaría
I book Atla to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. At the time of the booking only 11am was available but I wrote to the restaurant to enquire about a later table - received 2 messages and an email from opentable to confirm our attendance but the different timing was never mentioned. To my surprise, when we arrive on Sat morning the host confirmed that our table was not until 12pm! Annoying, as we could have done what we planed to do if the amendment would have been confirmed before hand. Anyway, no mention of the birthday whatsoever...
We are sat outside as per our request and look forward to trying the food! Service was poor, the waiter that took care of us seemed to be annoyed and the coffee we order first thing only arrived after the food was cleared. The food was good but did not blow our mind like expected.
Dessert was served, it was delicious. Sadly not even a little candle offered to celebrate the birthday! I guess we can't expect that from every restaurant but if they know you are there to celebrate a special occasion, does it take much to make it special? At Atla it clearly does!
Huevos rancheros, outstanding guacamole, incredible tacos pastor... fine food, first class cooking, amazing culinary experience
I have the great pleasure of being a frequent patron of ATLA since their early beginnings. I may have one bad service day, but I have never had a bad meal in the multiple times I go there for drinks or dinner. I especially enjoy sitting at the bar when my two favorite bartenders Felix and Javier are working. They are professional, courteous, and informative experts in Mezcals for me to taste and pair. This is truly one of my favorite restaurants in NYC.
