Atchafalaya Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
After spending over $300 for 2 of us and truly enjoying our evening it all came crashing down when the owner said he was in a predicament and needed us to leave our table so he could seat someone else. BOOM! If you decide to go, eat and drink slowly, and order one desert even if you don’t plan on eating it so you stay off the owner’s clock...one and done.
Normally an all 5 star experience. Today the house Bloody Mary mix seemed watered down and the band, while very cool and eclectic, was super loud. I like live music, especially in New Orleans but I couldn’t have a decent brunch conversation without screaming. I’ll be back because I know it’s a 5 star experience- just not today.
Oh my gosh do we love Atchafalaya! We’ve eaten there a few times, and have been delighted each time. I love the quaintness of the space, like you’re dining in someone’s home almost, at the edge of a wonderful neighborhood. The staff is great. Both the brunch (Bloody Mary bar! Creative dishes!) and dinner (shrimp & grits! Fried green tomatoes! Fresh fish!) have been amazing top to bottom. I’m not really a dessert person, but the apple tart tatin we recently had was buttery delicious. We will surely be back again on our next visit.
The beet salad is simply amazing! We loved the Bananas Foster Waffles as well.
Only one complaint - they do not want to seat you until your entire party arrives. One member if our group got caught up in traffic and was 20 minutes late. Another member of our group was in a walking cast, standing for a long time when the table was available was annoying.
One of the best meals I’ve had in New Orleans. The menus carries the expected New Orleans flare, and everything on the menu is extremely well executed. Wine list is comprised of interesting selections at reasonable prices. And the desserts are off the charts good!!! Definitely a place I will return to when in town!!!
This may have been the best meal I have ever had. I had the pork chop, if you can call it that...It was huge. I could barely eat a third of it. It was sitting on top of the most wonderful black eyed peas w sausage and collard greens on the side.
My mouth is watering just describing it for you.
Dessert was FAB!!!
We are never disappointed. We've been a few times for dinner and now the second time from brunch. Started with an app of Fried green tomatoes that was easily shareable by 4 people. The Everyone in our party enjoyed their generously portioned entrees and service as always, was friendly and efficient. This is a go to restaurant when you want to give out of town guests a stand out meal.
We tried to go here a couple years ago, and there was an unfortunate power outage so we only got drinks and left.. We could tell it was an awesome brunch spot though, so we were determined to come back. We were not disappointed today- the Bloody Mary bar was fun and the food was amazing. Atmosphere is casual but the service is what you would find at a less casual restaurant, in other words- perfect! I had the veggie omelette- something I chose because after days of fried food I needed something different. It was delicious and didn’t not taste like the bland healthy choices at all. My daughter has the waffle, which I obviously had to sample, and it was great as well. Highly recommend the brunch potatoes. Husband got the brunch BLT, and he loved it.. And yes, you can skip the Uber and walk from the Garden District.
Recommended to us on our visit to NOLA - well worth the try. Cute artsy decor in what looks like an old renovated home, with small bouquets on each table. Bloody Mary build-your-own option was a lot of fun, and spicy too. Food was locally authentic, fresh, creative and delicious. Highly recommended - will come again on our next visit to NOLA.
We had a decent table in the second room which is less noisy and is easier to access. We ordered three courses and the first apps were great. The second course , steak ( special) fish( special) and pork chop. They were well cooked and serviceable. It is good food but sort of pedestrian regular restaurant fare. The deserts though were the redeeming part of the meal! The bread pudding is amazing, king cake ice cream was gray and the sorbet gin and juice was inspired. We will go back but not so often.
Atchafalaya is one of the best restaurants in New Orleans, and this is coming from a native son who's experienced eating city-wide for decades! Their food is consistently excellent, and the service is always personable and knowledgeable. Tony & Rachel have a real gem here, and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting New Orleans, as well as to locals looking for an outstanding top-level meal in a neighborhood casual environment.
We have come here happily for many years but our entire table of 4 was blown away by the exceptional quality of the dishes we ate this time. A new chef (since May) has elevated the food here to be competitive with New Orleans best chefs. The smoked fish chowder was the most impressive of all.
