The restaurant is like home. Comfortable and not overly decorated. Now the food is another thing. Probably the best fried chicken in the area hands down . The corn muffins straight from moms kitchen the best and the Mac and cheese just makes you know the place is legit.

The cornbread was perfectly and the collard greens were wonderful. I will go back there again.

My wife and I both had the fried chicken and candied yams, just awesome. This is the second or third time we have been there, the food is always comforting and tasty. The wait-staff, while friendly, could be more attentive. But the food more than makes up for this. Highly recommended if you are looking for good fried chicken and authentic southern comfort food.

Fried chicken had almost no flavor. The short ribs were overly sweet, yams overly sweet, grits and Mac and Cheese bland. Very young staff, somewhat attentive, but leaderless. All in all, a huge disappointment after the reviews we read.

This restaurant is a great alternative in the vibrant Asbury scene. The southern style menu offers a variety of favorites. Our southern fried chicken was spectacular ! The BYO status makes the restaurant and real value. Don't miss this side street dining experience.

Just left, high expectations with lots of missteps. 45 minute wait to get water and wine glasses. Had to ask multiple times for water and it finally arrived, 1 glass at a time for 4 of us. Corn bread muffins were good, not great but when you are hungry, anything tastes good. We ordered 2 short ribs, 1 fried chicken and 1 herbed barbecue chicken. Chicken was overcooked, ribs were mediocre and contributed to the disappointment. Dont waste your time to order side salads, they were fresh from a premade salad bag. Asparagus tasted frozen and black eyed peas were mealy. Final insult for the 4 of us was when we reviewed the check and noticed it indicated 5 guests with an automatic 20% gratuity--beware and check your check. All in all, very disappointed and will not return

After reading the many good reviews of this place I went with high hopes. Unfortunately I was sorely disappointed. I love good soul/Southern food, but it's hard to find and I didn't find it here. I'll start with the positives. We arrived early for our reservation and we were seated right away. The servers were friendly, if not totally efficient. The cornbread was good. OK. That's it. Now to the negatives. They did bring the aforementioned cornbread, but no butter. I had to borrow some from the table next to us. Hot sauce seems to be in short supply. I think there was only one bottle that seemed to be passed around from table to table. Also they were out of several things I wanted. Pretty much a staple at any Southern restaurant is ice tea and lemonade. They were out. So no uptown for me. I ordered the smothered turkey wings. Sorry, they're out. OK, so not off to a good start, but I'm going to find something else I'll enjoy. So I stick to my usual faves, fried whiting with mac and cheese and potato salad. Mac and cheese is hard to get right and unfortunately, for me anyway, this place didn't. And the potato salad was so bad I actually had to spit it out. It wasn't even cold and tasted like it had gone bad. The warm temp of this dish that's supposed to be kept cold tells me it hadn't been in the refrigerator. The fish was OK. It was hot and cooked well but lacked flavor. At this point the experience was not salvageable for me. I went on a Sunday and they had a buffet available but I chose to order off the menu to get a freshly prepared meal. Regardless this was just not good for me. I gave 2 stars instead of one because my husband ate from the buffet and seemed to be OK with what he ate. But he's really not that hard to please. I did eat a piece of fried chicken from his plate and that was pretty good. It's disappointing because I'm always looking for a good soul food restaurant and apparently my search continues.

This restaurant is a nice mom and pops location with decent food. However you better have time to waste here as it took 2 1/2hrs to get our meals.

Had a recent family meal here on a Saturday night. This is a small, simple restaurant. The menu is somewhat limited, the food was very good and definitely reasonably priced. They do not serve alcohol. The staff seems nice. If you are looking for a nice place to eat in Asbury Park, give it a try.
