Dinner: Tuesday - Saturday: 6:00pm - 10:30pm
This gourmet Japanese restaurant is excellent. Not much in the way of usual Japanese dining but what there is is unusual and delicious. Well prepared and tasty. A bit on the pricey side but worth it.
When arriving to the restaurant, the hostesses advised they did not accept reservations. I said I booked on Opentable and they said they would put us on the waiting list. They couldn’t have cared less. Service was sub-par.
Had an outstanding evening. Delicious sushi and great service.
We had the Prix fix dinner for $80 per person. This was the middle option. The lowest was $65 and the highest was $150 each. It had an appetizer, sashimi, sushi and dessert. While the food was fresh and delicious, although it sounds like a lot, we were still a little bit hungry when we left. The portions were small. I think one more cut sushi roll or one more small entre would be great. Or even a bowl of rice may have made a difference. I will probably comeback and try lunch but I will order ala carte. The owner was nice. He came and said hello.
The lighting was terrible. The noise was unbearable. But the food was fantastic. I would want to try sitting at the sushi bar if I went back. I would never sit in the dining room again. A shame as the food was pretty good.
Great food and service
This is the best sushi I’ve had in my life. Authentic, simple, absolutely fantastic. The owner Vincent is truly incredible.
Came here to celebrate my husband's 30th birthday and was very impressed with everything! We decided to do the most expensive Kaiseki prix fixe meal, which was AMAZING and delicious, but soon much food for us. We should have done the less expensive prix fixe, but we were still happy with everything. The service was exceptional and the food was so fresh and delicious. Will definitely be going back!
My wife and I always kaiseki for our anniversary. This was our first time to Asuka and it will not be our last. The rest of the menu looks fantastic as well, and I can't wait to go again!
We ordered the oma
This is a hidden joy. The fish is superb!! Other dishes are wonderful as well. Will be going back many times in the future.
Traditional Japanese and the freshest sashimi ever. Very close to UCLA and easy parking. Great find.
The service here was amazing. I love sushi and this place was just such a nice experience. The food was awesome, and I would definitely recommend this place to friends.
My go to place for some of the new sushi in LA.
Wonderful spot! Great food, great ambience. Owner pays attention to detail. Feels very authentic.
Been here now at least 4 times and doesn't disappoint. Great sushi/sashimi options thanks to an excellent sushi chef who somehow finds the best fish to serve. Hamachi and blue fin tuna sashimi are my go to's here! Go!
Fresh sushi selection, excellent black cod! Surprising gem in Westwood.
Omakase sushi was super exceptional last year. This year it rose to very good. The older chef was not present, and I believe he is the one who takes great pride in the resplendent combination of flavors in omakase sushi.
The food was delicious! They had many specialty items. I never order eel when I go out for sushi but it was AMAZING at Asuka! They grill it and the flavor was great! Chef Taka was a pure delight! He made great recommendations and it was a lot of fun chatting with him throughout the dinner. Can’t believe I’ve waited so long to try this place! I will definitely go back and have already told several friends!
This restaurant never disappoints. Excellent in every category. Can’t wait to come back again.
The service was prompt and attentive. The fish tasted very fresh and flavorful. The sushi set was a good value.
Best bento box value in town...they really do the details well
Omakase- Sushi was fresh and rice was well balanced. For 65 dollars it was definitely a good deal
This place is the real deal. We sat at the counter and were awed course to course. This place has been around since the late 1970s. The owner meticulously checks on you to make sure you’re happy with everything. Unreal sushi experience!
Excellent food. Bluefin sashimi to die for. Hamachi sashimi great. Service was highly attentative catering to everything we needed. Finally great sushi again in Westwood (I miss Tengu!)
This is a real sushi restaurant. The fish is curated with pride and the service is fantastic.
Can I give them 6 stars? We had the Kaiseki menu and the food was brilliant. Flavors were wonderful and pacing was great. We never felt rushed from course to course, nor did we feel a lull in between courses. The star of the evening was the owner/manager. He was extremely friendly and full of great stories that captivated our group. Even if the food had not been as great as it was, I'd be back just to hopefully hear more stories!
The food was A+ and the service was first rate!
Wonderful all around
Very good sushi and Japanese food. I am a Japanese and love Sushi. This is one of the best with reasonable price but a very good Japanese restaurants in LA. Highly recomended.
Amazing service and food
Food and service good.
But ambiance not good. Too light / bright. And too “ordinary” looking. This place could do a lot better.
Loved it. Finally a good and pleasant Japanese restaurant in Westwood
My husband and I had the best dinner there! It was great to get out and find a wonderful keiseke place. The courses where delicious and not what you would typically find. We wanted to find a place that was quiet with good food and we did. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a new dining experience. The courses were well paced and tasted wonderful. The staff was great and explained what each dish was when they were brought out.
This restaurant surpassed our expectations. It was a Wednesday evening, but I was still surprised that it wasn't packed with people. The only reason I can think of is that it's a bit on the pricey side. We ordered a sushi platter for $65 (which came with some authentic miso soup) as well as the eggplant appetizer, shrimp tempura (very delicate), and also the mango mochi and green tea tiramisu. Sounds like a lot of food, but if I'm being completely honest, we weren't stuffed.
I would definitely return when I'm in the mood for some high quality, fresh sushi in a peaceful, friendly, attentive restaurant.
I used to go to the ASUKA down the street at least 2 times a week and i loved it. This is a new & improved version of that. Nice job re doing the business but the food is as yummy as always.
Consistently brilliant all aspects. 4.9 rating well-deserved. Chefs are welcoming and helpful. Owner same. Run don’t walk to this gem!
The kaiseki omakase was outstanding, as was the service. It's pretty spendy, but worth it for a special occasion. The prices also probably explain the pleasantly quiet atmosphere - no kids or young partyers. The chawan mushi was the best I've ever had - with a surprising but much-enjoyed touch of wasabi. The Hokkaido uni was a revelation, served on ika. Black snapper served two different ways - both nice. Even the miso soup was terrific - lots of seafood in there. Very short wine list, but good and not too marked up. Beer list was for people who don't like beer (Sapporo, Asahi, and Kirin - the Japanese equivalents of Bud, Miller, and Coors). The sake list was more impressive (and suitably so). The pacing of the courses was just right. Dessert was a green tea custard. They called it a tiramisu, but that's probably wrong. We'll go back, but we'll have to save up first!
Amazing omakase experience. 5 stars all around. Great food, friendly and well balanced service, good value too.
We had the kaiseki omakase and it was absolutely unbelievable. A very special treat. So ridiculously delicious. Sit down and let the chef do his thing. Finished with a fois gras handroll-are you serious!?
