We went for an afternoon tea experience. The price was definitely on the higher but the experience, the service, the diligence of the service staff was exceptional and truly worth every penny and more. Manika was our hostess for the evening, she was patient, thoughtful (brought a small cheese plate and more champagne when our order was running a little late), she made sure everything was custom made as we had dietary restrictions! Would recommend to anyone visiting SF and we will be back soon.

Very beautiful place. But for the price, I would not recommend the afternoon tea. The bread for the sandwiches were dry and hard, you’re only given one tiny scone, and the desserts were just ok.

Beautiful restaurant and the most delicious food! We started with the charcuterie and then had the duck confit and cavatelli with lamb and veal ragu. Came late after a movie and the whole wait staff was so nice and attentive. LOVE Astra!!

why are we situated right next to the entrance. It honestly felt like a zoo where people could see us. Food was also pretty bad, we didn't get a tiered afternoon tea set and got horribly made dumplings from their lunar new year menu. Don't bother having tea time here.

Pros: very nice lounge, beautiful food presentation, and fun experience of being able to smell all of the tea leaves before selecting our choices Cons: we were the only people participating in the tea service and the service, while friendly and polite, was very slow and inattentive (e.g., we waited over 20 mins for water and had to walk up to the bar to remind them). Also very overpriced compared to other similar services.

Enjoyed my experience. Food and drinks were fantastic. The only drawback was my table assignment. I was seated next to the glass wall facing the street. It was sunny and though the shade was drawn down it got really hot.

Astra is very small, so small it appears at first to be just an extension of the bar/cocktail lounge. We had Thanksgiving dinner there which was a fixed menu so can't comment on the regular dinner menu. Although the restaurant area wasn't full the noise level was so high that we asked to be reseated in the bar area where the sound level wasn't as overwhelming. Other than the noise issue the food and service were both excellent. The Thanksgiving menu was mostly variations on traditional choices (butternut squash soup, roast turkey, sweet potatoes, stuffing, pecan tart) but each was reimagined in some way. Everything was hot (not always guaranteed in expensive restaurants), courses were served without delays and our server stayed in touch with us continually despite our being a distance away from her regular tables. Overall we enjoyed ourselves and would recommend Astra to friends who have deep pockets (it was very expensive!) But management would be well-advised to address the sound issue. At those prices guests shouldn't have to sit in the bar just to hear each other.

Really disappointed in Astra being in the lobby of the hotel. It's noisy, too casual and nothing special. Food ok, not great. Liked the restaurant when it was on the 3rd floor, quiet, elegant (with tablecloths!), easy to speak across the table. New Astra is unsophisticated and like a basement family room.

We had dinner here after a visit to SFMOMA on an early Friday evening. It is located in the St. Regis Hotel. We shared a green salad and the roast chicken which was tender and delicious with a tangy marinade. It was served on a bed of puréed squash which was good but I would have liked more in the way of vegetables, the dish is mostly chicken. For the price I would have liked a larger variety of items on the plate. Overall we thought the prices were a bit high with prices for a glass of wine ranging into the $20+ range and even a cookie on the dessert menu was pricey too.

The restaurant is beautifully remodeled and looks amazing. The service was really good. We sat in the corner table and the air conditioning vent is directly overhead. I was definitely freezing by dessert and should’ve probably brought a warmer jacket and scarf. The food was okay. I wasn’t a fan of the salmon entree. For me the ora king salmon was dry and I didn’t like the green olive oil broth surrounding the fish. The potatoes that came with the entree were a little too well done and crispy. I wish they weren’t so crispy and a little more softer to chew. The desserts were really good.
