We are foodies, and we really enjoyed the tasting experience here. We got dumped early by a bad Uber driver, got soaked in the rain, but they made up for the bad start to the evening. They have a passion for food and we got to see it and taste it.
Recently returned for the fourth or fifth meal. Every one has been superb. Sitting at the counter gives a view of very skilled professionals finishing very very interesting dishes. Service is pleasant and informative. Dishes and pairings are superb.
The food was superb. My favorites were the tomato soup with pumpkin vine and the mussels with sat cod foam.

Fabulous with a side of adventure. Get the wine.
Great all around. We did the 8 course tasting menu with wine parings for two. The courses are creative and delicious. Not all wines can always be a hit, but the parings work and some wines were fantastic unique finds for sure. Love the unique dining experience with this restaurant.
My wife and I travel extensively and I’m a self described foodie. Easily the top 3 meals of ever had in the world, my wife’s favorite.
Great. It was a perfect date spot with your significant other. The food was great, the service was great too.
Asta could be the best gastronomic dining experience in Boston. Chef Alex Crab is a master!
They obviously are trying hard to be innovative and eclectic, but missed the mark in every way. Our party of 4 had both the short and long menu with pairings. Every dish but the fish was one-dimensional and the flavor was either lacking or bad. The pairings were fine alone, but didn’t enhance the dishes with which they were paired. Spectacular waste of time (2 hours) and money (close to $600). We have eaten at restaurants of all levels throughout the world and this stands out as our worst meal.
Their tasting menu never disappoints, fresh ingredients and inventive flavors.
Wonderful, creative food. Wine pairings were very interesting - all European wines, so it was fun to try things we weren't familiar with. Casual atmosphere. Sitting at the "bar" so we could watch the food being plated was very entertaining. Squab dish needs refinement, but everything else was spot on!
Amazing food and ambience.
Asta was a great fine dining experience in Back Bay. I was able to get a vegetarian 5-course menu and my partner received the normal 5-course menu. The food was very interesting, delicious, and unusual. The menu changes often as well. The service was excellent and warm and they brought out a few extras as well that made it seem like you got a little more for the money. We shared a wine tasting menu which was definitely the way to do it to get the experience but split the price.
Asta is always a pleasure and we eat there several times a year. I am blown away by the incredible things they do with vegetables in every season. And they do a different preparation of foie gras every time I’m here - and every time, I absolutely love it! This last visit was no exception, and the dessert soufflé was so light and full of flavor that it deserves a mic drop. The beverage pairing is great fun whether we do the formal pairing or just ask for recommendations of a glass or two. Everyone on the staff is attentive, energetic and friendly. We look forward to our next visit!
This place was wonderful. We were greeted right away with a glass of wine and the dinner was fantastic. We started with a fluke crudo with chilled dashi that was an excellent starter and exactly how I wanted to start the meal - with something acidic and salty. The sweet potato course with variations of sweet potato was a dish I really liked because it was a simple, yet confident, and the parsley additions lifted up the notes of the sweet potato adding a light herbal note without being too overpowering. My favorite dish of the night was the smoked and pickled beets with horseradish, oxtail, and chocolate. There were many layers of flavors with this dish that I loved. The service staff here were so nice and attentive to each guest and it made the night so much better with friendly and professional individuals.
I live close by and always wanted to try Asta. I’m glad I finally did! Staff were amazing! The courses were a lot of fun. Shared both a 5 course and 8 course with my friend and the chef was very accommodating about bringing out the 2 courses in a way that flowed well together. We sat at the high tables so we could watch the chef in action. Would definitely come again!
As a business traveler from Italy (read: Bostonian living abroad), Asta is one of my favorite destinations for dining that is creative and seasonal, using only top ingredients from local farmers. Admittedly I’m a somewhat fussy eater, yet I fully trust Chef Alex. I am relieved to not have to choose from a menu, and 9.5 out of 10 times I love what I’m eating. And the wine! The pairings are as playful and informed as the dishes, and shared in a subtle, unfussy manner, which I appreciate. The service is warm and unpretentious, creating an inviting atmosphere that makes you want to linger. At a glance you might catch the staff swaying along to whatever music is playing at the moment, visibly enjoying themselves. I highly recommend Asta to folks looking for an exquisite dining experience, one that is full of (restrained) personality and subtlety. While it is no longer unusual to sit at the chef’s table in Boston, dining at Asta has the feel of doing both dinner and a show. It’s hard to explain. But you’ll see for yourself.
I loved it! Worth every penny! A creative constructed menu of delicious, entertaining bites that land like tightly-written short stories. Alongside this inventive cuisine, subtly cozy decor and attentive, charming staff cultivate a sense that Asta is the genuine article--a truly special experience straight from the hearts of all those involved. I wish more establishments had this truly refreshing, welcoming attitude toward fine dining! I will definitely be back with friends the next time I am feeling a little fancy.
I think this is my 4th or 5th time having dinner at Asta. This is my favorite Boston area restaurant.
Great vegetable-forward food and wine pairings . Friendly and helpful service. The kind of place you can dress how you like, linger over dinner, and feel as though you have a great variety of dishes with a warm welcome.
What else can one ask for?
Wasn’t worth the time or dime spent. Food wasn’t outstanding.
Love Asta. Amazing food and fun atmosphere! Wonderful staff.
Sat at the high top counter so got a good view of chef and staff. This was one of the best dining experiences in Boston over the last year. They hit on all cylinders with the service, relaxed atmosphere, impeccable prix fixe. The staff was seamless in the timely delivery of each dish and detailed in the descriptions. Shish gave a wealth of information on the food and wine. Chef delivered some dishes so it felt very intimate. Roasted turnip and celery root were savory, cooked to perfection and well presented. the fish and beef were both outstanding and the flavors were elegant and not over-complicated. Rarely does the whole package come together like so it was really memorable.
Alex is the best chef in Boston, and Shish creates an incredibly warm and special atmosphere. The best!
The food was great. Service was good. It was not crowed either. For eight courses, including wine, the price was very reasonable. My wife and I had a very nice time!
Incredible experience, the tasting menu was a delight and our server recommended delicious wines. The scallop with squid ink was my favorite but the menu changes all the time and it is a surprise when you visit. Service is exceptional and personal.
Unattractive decor. Service was unprofessional. The food ingredients were very simple and the preparation of the food was lacking creativity. We ordered the five course tasting menu. The two first courses were not very pleasing. The two main courses were good. The diner value did not did not reflect the bill. We did not have a great experience overall and therefore will not return.
Great atmosphere, service, and concept. Food, however, lacked in taste and flavor. It all sounded and looked interesting and I was excited to try each dish. The taste always disappointed, though
Absolutely outstanding in every respect. Inventive, delicious dishes with imaginative wine pairings. Great service. Will come again!
An outstanding epicurean experience from the first bite to the last. Service was excellent.
Absolutely outstanding, will go back there again and already have recommended it to friends and family.
It was a delightful evening in every way. The service particularly stood out -both very attentive and cheerful - a lot of fun. 'Context' of restaurant is unique and creative - no spoiler alert. Tasty and interesting courses. Will definitely return.
Food was alright but def overpriced.
Never been before and would definitely go again. We were nervous as we had read mixed reviews, however we were blown away by the quality of the food. Just amazing
Asta is now my favorite restaurant in the Boston area. It is small and informal with fantastic creative food and wonderful friendly service. They offer a five and an eight course tasting menu with optional wine parings. I have tried each and found no significant overlap between the two. They also offer fois gras as an add-on.
I visited two nights in a row I was so blown away by the experience and had each menu. They was a very nice emphasis on root vegetables. None of the dishes was really hearty and all we interesting taste combinations that made me savor every bite.
The service is friendly and attentive but not intrusive. I will be back on my next trip to Boston whenever that might be.
The prefix menu is good but a bit overpriced. Good service, lovely atmosphere
Dining at Asta is an exciting gourmet experience. Vibrant creative seasonal menu. Unusual wine list, thoughtful pairings. Biggest impressions, borsht, caramelized Jerusalem artichokes.
All around outstanding food and service each dish of the tasting menu was amazing. Accommodated dietary restrictions and non-drinkers extremely well. We will go back for the 8 course tasting!
This was our first visit to Asta and we were charmed. The welcome was warm and friendly.
The food was top notch and creative. All but one of our dishes in this six course meal (five courses plus fois gras) were really outstanding.
The wine pairings were well thought-out and definitely worth the price.
The only down side was the volume of the background music. I wish it could have been a little quiter.
If only we lived in the Boston area, we would become regulars.
