Assaggio Ratings and Reviews
The wife and I were seeing a show in Seattle and chanced upon Assaggio online. We arrived a little early for our 5:45 reservations. By about 6:15pm it filled up. Glad we got there early.
The food was excellent. The wife is a great cook ... and she was very, very impressed.
The appetizer (deep fried, stuffed olives) was excellent.
And the entrees were great. The wife had the braised beef over polenta. Easily a meal and a half worth of food.
My pasta dish was perfectly al dente and was exceptional. Easily the best pasta dish I have ever had ... and I've had plenty.
The wine ... perfectly paired.
The staff was excellent and the owner walked around like family, welcoming guests and creating community.
There were seven of us. The waiter was quite good at herding us as needed and leaving us to our own device as desired. He recommended appetizers that he sorted for us that were excellent. Fairly extensive wine list in all price categories. Good food. Fun atmosphere. Reasonably priced.
Fantastic, delicious Italian food, you can taste the fresh ingredients in the food, wonderful wines and excelent service. This is one of the few Italian restaurants in Seattle where you can experience the authentic Italian kitchen. Loved it, just like being in Italy!
A plus having the owner and chef greet you with a warm and happy smile!
This is one of those pretentious Italian restaurants trying hard to be classy chic. Unfortunately, presenting the bill to patrons who are still eating is a big NO NO! Totally unacceptable in ANY restaurant. Food was average. Place is very, very noisy. 3/10 in my book.
Excellent service, food, location and atmosphere. From the time we walked in until our departure we were well tended to. The food was seasoned perfectly and cooked to perfection. Excellent wine selection, and decadent desserts. We will definitely be making a 3rd trip back to this gem of a restaurant. Delizioso!
Great food- pork chop was perfectly cooked, as was the salmon. Mashed potatoes were heavenly. Vegetables seemed a bit retro- would have preferred sautéed green beans to the cubes of zucchini and chunks of carrots. Serving sizes for meals were perfect. Wine was excellent!
We have always enjoyed our dining experience at Assaggio and it is our favorite Italian-themed restaurant in Seattle. The service was friendly and helpful. The decor is charming and romantic, and the attitude is elegant without being pretentious. The servings of starters, salads and entrees are just right, not too much and not too little. Everything was full of flavor and it always feels like a special occasion when we dine there. I've not tried their happy hour yet, but I'd like to go back soon and check it out.
Decent food, though probably overpriced for the quality (had a reduced-fare lunch). Stuffier atmosphere than necessary in Seattle, for sure. Wait staff felt like robots, but were attentive.
The best restaurants I have been to make the experience feel like a master chef has invited you over to his house, and you are being served as a friend, not just the next customer.
Hubbie & I were in Seattle fo the marathon and our friend, who frequents Assaggio, recommended the place. We LOVED it! Food was outstanding, place was packed but we were able to snag two seats at the bar. We'll definitely return the next time we're in town.
Nice greeting from the owner and lovely table for two near the front window. The good ended there- our server was brisk and seemed very uninterested in providing help with the wine list or food recommendations. He even tried to have us out of the restaurant in less than an hour. We were told the kitchen made him bring out our dessert which we had asked not to be put through as we hadn't even finished our wine and wanted to move onto specialty coffees and dessert. Overall a huge disappointment for our second visit! I had looked forward to this night out and drove down from Vancouver, Canada. Don't think I'd return in fear of having the same experience.
This restaurant is one of our most favorite anywhere! The service, food, ambiance, everything from the greeting at the front door by Mauro, the owner, to the entire staff making sure you have everything you need or want makes it a perfect spot to be any night of the week. Excellent wines too.
We had the best anniversary celebration there! Thanks, Mauro and Sean and everyone else for making it so memorable.
This was our 2nd time to Assagio and it did not disappoint. We had reservation at 8:00 pm on a Saturday night and while I was not happy we had to wait until 8:25 to sit, I understood. The food was amazing and was the highlighht of out visit. The drink and service were also very good, with the owner working hard to interact with his guests and manage the very busy operation. A nice place for special occasions.
I had the special and it was a less than mediocre risotto-type saute with some meat and unappetizing brown sauce on it and pieces of asparagus cut so small couldn't even see them. All the food for us 4 people was so salty it was almost unedible. They've added tables to squeeze in more patrons - way too crowded now. Could hardly walk between the tables and chairs. Unbelievably noisy and waiters rush you through. I would not recommend this place any longer - terrible.
The food was good. The brussels sprout appetizer was excellent as was the salad. The risotto with chicken was good except the broccoli was bitter. The chocolate desert was excellent.
Service was mediocre. I felt once the waiter knew we did not drink alcoholic beverages his interest in serving us waned.
Mauro is a magnificent host and always makes us feel at home. We have been dining at Assaggio for 18 years. We enjoyed every bite!
It was a packed Friday evening and there was plenty of staff to keep everything flowing smoothly. Our wine was delightful and moderately priced which is always nice. The salmon special was cooked to perfection! We enjoyed the calamari puttanesca appetizer. We shared the lemon dessert which was refreshing. We look forward to our next trip to Seattle for dinner at Assaggio!
I walked in the door for the first time, and the owner, Marco greeted me as if I was a regular. Gave me a European hug, took my coat and gave me a choice of where I wanted to sit. I was there a little early, but that was not a problem, and they got me a glass of wine while I awaited my other two to my party to arrive.
I originally picked it for the Dine Around Seattle, but instead I ordered their Caesar salad and the spaghetti seafood pasta special of the evening and skipped dessert and had another glass of wine instead.
Definitely a great place, and will go back.
We love to dine in Seattle and Assaggio is one of our favorite restaurants. Assaggio has a great cozy atmosphere. The menu is extensive with great options and the wine list has options for many tastes and price ranges. I had one of the "specials"; a seafood pasta w/ pappardelle pasta, scallops, prawns, and crab meat w/ marinara. It was delicious!!! I also had the potato leek soup, also great!!! The service was very personable and very professional. We all loved our meals: Osso Buco, Linguini and clams, penne w/ a vodka sauce...all great!
While the food was good, our server was possibly the rudest server with whom I have come into contact for quite some time. She expected us to be ready to order immediately when we sat down, before we had even read the menu; from that small request to have a moment to take off our coats and look at the menu, she visibly rolled her eyes and huffed at us with every interaction. It made a dining experience that could have been quite pleasant into a tense chore.
This was the first of many times I will be traveling to Seattle; neither will I ever return to this establishment, nor will I recommend it to others.
