Assaggio Ratings and Reviews
I took my wife and daughter (age 14) to Assaggio , for my wife's birthday. My daughter is a vegetarian, and a picky eater. The food was excellent, particularly the steak and the king salmon. Service was wonderful, and staff brought out nice dessert and drinks for dessert. We left happy and full.
Took my partner here for a fancy date--it was a great night! Service was attentive, friendly, and quick. We started with calamari and a bottle of chianti. The chianti was great, and though I thought the calamari was a bit too fishy tasting, my partner loved it, and I did enjoy the preparation with tomatoes, olives, and capers. I had the rigatoni pepperonata which was amazing, and my partner had the linguini special, which came with an assortment of seafood and green peas (he finished his plate completely!). We ended the night with tiramisu, which was decadent and delicious.
The atmosphere is cozy and a bit loud, but not so much so that you can't hear your own conversation. Wonderful place for a date.
I have been going to Assaggio for 20 years and have never once been disappointed! From the moment you are greeted at the door, it feels like you're special. This time I enjoyed the Insalada Francesca to start, always perfect. My Filetto Di Manzo was cooked exactly as I ordered, and the risotto was al dente as it should be. The waitstaff is always professional and quietly attentive. Great wine, coffee and delicious dessert. Assaggio is the one constant in our ever-changing Seattle! Excellent! My only wish is that I could eat there every night.
The staff at Assaggio's are friendly, welcoming, and incredibly helpful each visit. Orders are taken and served in a timely manner, prices are incredibly reasonable for the portion sizes (the affettati for two was more than enough for four of us!) and waiters are quick to recommend a dish or wine. It's a cozy space and can be a bit loud, but not so much that you can't hear your dining partners. Definitely suitable for anniversaries and special occasions with a few close friends--I recommend making a reservation any time you go!
The penne alla vodka was delicious--other dishes we tried included the pollo parmigiana, rigatoni peperonata, and spaghetti Bolognese. All were incredibly tasty. The minestrone soup is like something straight out of my great grandmother's kitchen; rustic, flavorful, comforting. The tiramisu was divine, as was a cup of coffee to round out the meal.
This was hard...parts were excellent and other parts were poor. The waiter clearly didn't know how to pour wine properly and it ended up on the table. The bottle had tons of sediment and a chalky cork but didn't get replaced. Also, our bruschetta appetizer came with the bread toasted to an absolute burnt black. Again, we mentioned this to the gal clearing our table and she was ambivalent. We ordered the olive appetizer and it was excellent. Mains were good, especially the risotto. Overall though, service was poor. I'm fine with mistakes - it can happen...but it's clear they didn't care.
Everything was good.; from cocktails and bread to the dessert menu. My husband ate all of his meal, then finished what I couldn't eat of mine. They try to accommodate special requests as much as possible - I ordered my pasta with a light amount of cream in the sauce. Yum! Only negatives were the noise level and crowded tables. You felt like we were part of the neighbors conversation.
The food, service, ambiance were all good. The only real complaint I had was that we had a 8pm reservation and we weren't seated until 9pm. We were a party of six which may have caused some of the delay. The host offered us some champagne while we waited and we were offered an appetizer as compensation which was appreciated. The food and the wine were worth the wait. The entire staff were all very friendly!
This was a disappointing experience in Seattle. Although a vibrant dining place, the tables are very close together and makes for an increased noise level. Service was less than adequate as we waited 45 minutes between appetizers and entrée and unfortunately my son did not get to eat any of his as his meal didn't arrive with the rest of the late entrees. He had to take his to go as we had a concert to attend and those of us with entrees had to shovel food in quickly. The osso buco was slightly dry and lacked flavor. All in all, not a place I'd go back to with those prices and inattentive service. At a minimum I would have expected management (not just the server) to apologize and to have comped my son's entrée. Disappointing!
I took a high school friend who was visiting from New York (where we both grew up). The food was outstanding -- I had the lasagna, he had a seafood pasta "special", and we shared a plate of the roasted calamari as an appetizer. It could be the best Italian food I've had outside of Brooklyn. The wait staff was attentive but not overbearing. And we had a nice seat on the sidewalk enjoying the mid-70s sunshine. A terrific dining experience across the board!
I've been here twice and both times were wonderful. The first time the group I was in was in a huge rush and no other restaurant could fit us in (four people) before our movie started. Assaggio fit us in and we let them know we were in a hurry. They were fantastic with the inconvenience of our rush. Our drinks and food came out super quickly and it was all delicious! The owner came over and thanked us for coming in before we left.
My second time here was even better (especially since we could really enjoy the food). When we came in, we were warmly greeted and seated very quickly. The owner wanted to make sure that my husband, who is 6'5", was comfortable with the seating arrangement. He then Asked us if we'd been in before and if we enjoyed the last time. We let him know we had and that we loved it and he was genuinely happy to hear that and thanked us. Then the food came. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted great.
We will definitely be back the next time we head to Seattle.
We really enjoyed our meals at Assagio! My husband had the Salmon special and, I have to admit, it was the star! Perfectly prepared and delicious! Large portion and the sides were fantastic.
I had the pasta tasting. This is the first time I have visited a restaurant that allows for three smaller pasta portions instead of committing to one! I had the lasagna, Gorgonzola gnocchi, and pesto. All were very good.
The lasagna is uniquely spiced and I enjoyed the unexpected flavor. They take a risk with this and it pays off! The gnocchi (which is never my favorite, but, I love Gorgonzola) was absolutely perfect! The most tender, but properly cooked, gnocchi I have ever had! I could eat this for my last meal! And the pesto pasta was more expected in flavor, but, I liked it and I ate every bite!
The wines are delicious and well chosen, the atmosphere is authentic and casual. We would haunt Assiago if we lived in the area!
Assagio continues to produce wonderful Italian food with great service at a reasonable cost. We split a Caesar salad which was more than sufficient size per person, and each of us ordered our own pastas. They arrived hot, perfectly cooked and delicious. Even though the place was packed, the service was so attentive. I had a seafood pasta with tender large scallops and shrimp, in a light tomato sauce. Outstanding! My spouse enjoyed penne pasta a la vodka, which was so tasty. I wished that I could eat both! Mauro, the owner, is a delight -- so warm and welcoming, treating each visitor as if they were closest friends. Can't wait to go back.
Great food -- boat bolognese was fabulous as well as the scallop and ravioli in saffron cream sauce.Loved sitting on the patio. Nice ambience. Wine list was extensive and we really enjoyed the Walls Walls Sangiovese. Service was meh. Waitress was friendly but we felt rushed to order and then she basically disappeared. Never checked back in on us until we were sitting for twenty minutes with empty bottle of wine and clear plates. Then check took another 15 minutes to come. Not a cheap meal- would have appreciated some more attention from waitress. We were debating dessert and some more drinks but we didn't want to commit another hour to our time there!
