Assaggio Ratings and Reviews
This place is amazing!!!! The owner greeted our party at the door and, though there was a small wait, showed us to our table personally. He even stopped by throughout to check on us. The food is truly authentic Italian and absolutely delicious. We enjoyed our dinner so well, we came back the next night! I highly recommend; a must try!!!
There were 5 of us at dinner and we ordered 4 different meals. The salmon special was good but the rest of the food was very blann. The gorgonzola cream sauce was very thin and had zero taste. The atmosphere was fun, it was cozy and had a nice Italian feel but we won’t be back. I love food that explodes with true Italian flavor. Even the olive oil that they served with the bread did not taste authentic.
We headed to Assaggio for my wife's birthday and it was great. Exactly the atmosphere we like for Italian -- greeted by (we assume) the owner who was warm and hospitable. The waitress (Erica) was fantastic -- efficient, not too chatty but friendly, and knew how to pour our wine evenly and regularly. Her wine recommendation was appropriate (when they didn't have our first choice) and kept it in our price range without making us feel we were being cheap. The food was very good and the menu offered traditional Northern Italian fare. Only negative was it was very loud for conversation, but it also added a festive and friendly, neighborhood feel.
Assaggio Ristorante is a cozy Italian gem hidden among all the new trendy Belltown pop ups. Mauro's shop stands above them all with great food and great ambiance. In the rapidly changing North DT Seattle culture, it's a reminiscent getaway where you can feel like an adult again. 5/5!
We have been here before and loved it but this time we were seated in the very back by the bar which was awful as not enough room and too much traffic. The waitress and waiter were literally yelling across our table to speak to the party table at the very back. Every time the waiter served the back table or someone from the back table wanted in or out it was very awkward. Food was spilled in the floor but there was not enough room for anyone to clean it up. We will be back but if seated there again we would leave. Food is great though and our previous experience was fantastic.
My son and I went to dinner while we were on vacation in Seattle. We both enjoyed our meals. I ordered one of the nightly specials and it was expensive! But the food was tasty. I would go back again. It was loud and the seats were very close together and people couldn't get by without bumping my chair...but I suppose that was part of the experience? All in all we enjoyed it.
We had a 10 p.m. dinner on New Years Eve and were very happy to be there. The mood was very festive and welcoming and the food was great. Being late, we only shared the calamari and a pizza, and we were treated the same as if we had ordered a 5 course meal. Have recommended Asagio and will do so again.
I wanted to love the restaurant but alas the food was far from good. While I like my pasta al dente this crunchy linguine was far from desirable. They also served mashed potatoes with grilled halibut??? The food was expensive for the quality. While the portions were large you lose interest after two bites. The service was great though. We will not be going back and cannot believe the ratings the food gets. Either people don’t know what quality Italian food is or they don’t have taste buds.
Our entrees were very good, as was my calamari appetizer and my companions' chef salads. Service was a bit sketchy for a quality restaurant. Our server apologized that they were missing a person, but it took some time to get bread and water. We had to ask twice to get the olive oil dipping sauce that accompanies the bread. It was worth asking as the dipping sauce was outstanding; I want the recipe. The wine list could/should be augmented by more reasonably priced wines; they are out there.
