Food at Assaggi was delicious. Francesco, our host, was one of the best and made the visit memorable. Paccheri was out of this world. I cannot wait to go back.

A very nice lunch with delicious food, attentive but discreet service, an uncrowded and unrushed feel with no difficulty carrying on a conversation, servings appropriate for lunch, but a bit pricey for a friends gathering for lunch.

One of our favorite places to dine!
Bonus: the gluten-free pasta is absolutely delicious!

We showed up on a Saturday for lunch. Our lunch at this otherwise great restaurant was somewhat spoiled by a noisy local meeting honoring a local politician.

I loved the feel of the old restaurant before renovations and loved the old staff. Post renovation, cold, dark, modern and the entire staff has changed. Menu is very much the same as before. When they first opened no meal choice was a disappointment. I can not say that now. Over-salted, overpriced and the traditional feel is gone. Hope the pizzeria, when it opens will be worth the trip.

Since the renovation, it is trying to be a quality, nice restaurant. . . but through the glass wall to the bar is the sports channel at all times. Not consistent with what they are trying to do. Slow service. Had to ask to place the order, had to ask to get the check. Sadly, there are no good places in McLean.

We celebrated a 91st birthday. It was wonderful. The food was delicious and they gave her a fabulous dessert. The food was simply amazing. I would highly recommend the Salumi and Burrata appetizers. There was a large party, which made service a bit slow. For an elderly lady, it was very loud. Overall, a great experience.

This is a lovely restaurant with delicious, well-prepared and presented food. There is a degree of quiet elegance to it which makes it ideal for a meal with friends where you can easily talk and to each other.
The food is always wonderful, but I have a small quibble. I carefully read the menu and the last 2 times I was there, an ingredient listed in the descriptions was missing. My cozze had no tomatoes and the guanciale was hardly discernible. Last time the seafood salad that was on the special of the day list, had no avocados that were in the description. Each meal was very good, but it is curious why something should be missing especially on a "specials" list and since there is a high-end grocery store in the same shopping center to fill in any void. Still, nothing to stop me from returning - just wish they were more careful.

The food and service are excellent. We had fabulous meals with a great wine selection. The only problem is the noise level in the restaurant. It is very loud which makes it difficult to talk with your table mates. It would be difficult if you were trying to conduct business or have a quiet, conversation.

We have been there on many occasions and the food and service is always excellent. We were disappointed with two things: we brought our own wine and the corkage fee was outrageous; we asked for side dishes of pasta with the most expensive entre and were charged a half portion price for each of the simple side dishes. While the food is great, the value is questionable.

My wife and I had a rare opportunity to dine together and chose Assaggi for the first time. It turned out to be a huge success - the food was excellent - not far from what you would get in Italy. Many Italian restaurants serve “Americanized” Italian cuisine. Not Assaggi. This is genuine. The service was very pleasant, efficient and high quality. We have a new favorite restaurant in McLean.

Service uneven. Rushed us to order, then disappeared during meal. Soup excellent. Pasta luke warm —for everyone at table!! Cappuccino also tepid. Noise level awful. It was sooo loud—almost to point of being unbearable. Very disappointed. Will not return

The food is authentic Italian. Some of the staff is for Italy, which makes it even better. Great recommendations from them both on food and wine. They were all very attentive and professional. The food was great. Portions are like in Italy, not large, but definitely enough. Great fresh made pastas, appetizers, and desserts. Not heavy, just perfect. Thank you for a great evening!

The renovated space is lovely but so loud! Very hard to carry on a conversation. In addition, my linguini dish (linguine with lobster and cherry tomatoes--a special) was very fishy tasting. I had considered recommending it for another gathering but am now afraid to do so based on my experience. I'm sorry to say it because it is close by and there are not a lot of food choices in McLean.

This is always an excellent restaurant in McLean. They have remodeled and it is much lovelier and more "sophisticated" in appearance. The service seemed a little slow this time, sep. when we had to wakit for a drink order to come and to get a basket of bread . Also the veal chop, which is the most expensive item on the menu was a little overcooked. We had asked for medium rare and it was definitely medium which means it was little tougher than it should have been. At that price the chop needs to be perfect. But the soft shell crabs and the Grilled Spanish Octopus were excellent. Minor problems but considering this is the most "upscale" restaurant in the area there really should be no problems.

So we started at a table for two that was blocking the door to a private dining room where they were gong to have a party. A pretty brain dead thing to have done, but corrected easily enough--at our suggestion, not the restaurant's. Then the kitchen neglected to remove the scales from my wife's Black Sea bass--really? are they kidding? My pasta had the consistency of wallpaper paste and not all flavorful Our waiter was very polite and pleasant, but after the crappy job the kitchen did, I would have thought more than a superficial apology would have been in order. Oddity is that the few other diners in the place seemed blissfully unaware. Maybe we were singled out; maybe just mistakes, but there isn't a chance we'll ever come here again.

I was disappointed in the recent renovation of the place, particularly the increased noise level. We were two couples dining at a table in the middle of the room and it was quite difficult even to hear the person adjacent, much less the person talking from across the table. Although it is strictly a personal matter, I did not care for the decor. I ordered one of the fish dishes which the waiters had recommended and found it overly seasoned and not well prepared. The service was only fair, with the plates remaining on the table well after we had finished. There was also substantially no attention from the waiterduring the meal, and some difficulty in getting attention from the waiter to arrange for dessert and coffee. My wife and I often dined at the restaurant before the renovation and always enjoyed the time we spent there. I'm not sure of the reasons for what appears to be some decline but we will certainly try again and hope for a better experience.

Food was mostly of high quality but dessert was a disappointment -- supposed to be a lemon tart but had no lemon flavor at all. Service was friendly and efficient. Nice to have as a neighborhood option, but is on the expensive side.

We have been waiting for Assaggi to reopen after renovations. The menu had an excellent variety of offerings and our meal and service was excellent. What almost ruined the evening was how loud it was. We were R a table for 4 in an outside wall and we had to yell across the table to converse. It was a busy Friday night but before The Reno.we didn't have the noise problem.
We will try again during the week to see if we can have a conversation at our table. Weekdays are tough but...

"The boys are back in town". After 8 long months, Assaggi is finally open, Domenico is back in the kitchen, Francesco is back managing the room, the new decor looks great, and overall it's better than ever. Food was great, as always, and our server, Giovani and his support team where spot on. Whatever the teething problems that were reported during the "soft" launch, they seem to be ironed out. Dining room was full on Saturday night and everyone seemed to be enjoying the food and service.

The food definitely went downhill from what is was before the remodel. Less authentic italian, more upscale. The burrata had almost no burrata. Is it the same chef? The service was weak. We asked for sparkling water, but got flat. One person removed crumbs from linen with her hands instead of the "tool." They will succeed once they get into a routine again, but it is not the same place....
