Superb experience as always. Took my sister and brother-in-law (their first visit). My sister had the pasta special with lobster; my wife had salmon; brother-in-law had pasta with bolognese and I had steak. Folks, this is seriously great food. Please go. They have a great outdoor dining area with propane heaters.
And as always, thank you to Milo Dusan!

We have been going to Assaggi for quite some time especially since our good friends Madge and Ken became co-owners. Now in the Covid era, they have a great heated outdoor dining area. They have also hired a newish chef who is great. The food is now stellar. Plus we always get great service from Aleksandra and Dhusan. We are going next Saturday and bringing my sister and brother in law for the first time.
This place never disappoints. Veal ravioli were outstanding as well as the short ribs! Chocolate desert was excellent, it’s a shame I didn’t take a pic it had some kind of gold finish on top! With all this craziness going on, this is our safe spot to dine and just minutes from our home. We will be back
I never like to leave a less than good review but in the spirit of being positive here is an honest suggestion. If a group or a family shows up and some in the group want to eat pizza why deny them the chance to eat in the formal restaurant? Our table of 2 adults and 2 children spent just short of $300 tonight - yet we were asked to sit in the pizza place and we were then allowed to order both pizza and items from the restaurant. I doubt we’ll ever go back which is a shame because we like to support local businesses and we were very regular customers before they closed and reopened with the attached pizza place. It would have been so easy to have sat us in the empty main restaurant.
The menu is relatively limited however that’s understandable given the impact that Covid has had on the volume of business.
I understand that they don’t want to turn their formal restaurant into a pizza parlor but surely they can make a judgment and be flexible.
We made a reservation for 4:30 on a cold January 2021 Saturday to get out of the house. Despite no smoking signs and asking two staff people to enforce the no smoking rules, they let a man continue to smoke a cigar that was suffocatingly awful. So, we left and went someplace else that was great. My lungs felt the cigar for the next couple of hours unfortunately. Hope the rude cigar smoker tipped really well for his beer. It didn't compare to the tip I would have left today and on many other visits for our family at what was our favorite restaurant.
We had such a great evening "out" at Assaggi, outside on their interior patio. It was very warm with heaters and protected from wind so we were able to enjoy the delicious food without distraction. Their food is always outstanding...from the fresh endive salad to the amazing bronzino and fresh gnocci which tasted like pillows in my mouth. Every time I go I enjoy something new that is made with love and care. It really is a gem of a restaurant (their pizza is amazing too) and I will be back to enjoy the patio even on cold winter nights until this pandemic is over.
Great food and experience. Would go there again soon
Overall wonderful experience!
1 . Their pork belly app was very good, so tender and perfect for this weather. My wife had braised veal ravioli and she loved it. I ordered duck breast myself, it was perfectly cooked and seasoned, cause God knows wrongly done duck breast is like eating a shoe.
2. The only downside was the pricing for the value , but hey it’s McLean so we kind of expected that.
People kept going in and out picking up their pizza orders, we have to come back and dine in their pizzeria side , it seams more casual too!
3.Service professional and well polished.
Previous experience very good but for this New Year’s Eve food and service were not satisfactory. Risotto was watery, undercooked and lacking any taste. While accommodating for our children with off menu pasta dishes, my son’s pasta was unevenly cooked and even crunchy. Ordered milk and never received it, much to my children’s disappointment. Empty water glasses/cups not filled. Expected better quality and service, especially considering limited number of tables. Disappointing all around.
Their covered outdoor seating was great! I wish they had more heaters per table available! Food was good as per usual.
Four family members went to celebrate a birthday. The restaurant is serene and lovely. The service attentive but not intrusive. Three of us had fish; one duck. The portions were modest but since we also shared appetizers, we were satisfied. The restaurant surprised us with a complementary tiramisu, which was a fine ending to a special evening
Great experience but a bit pricy
Assaggi is always a great choice and has adapted well to COVID-19 conditions. Food is great, service is excellent. You have your choice ranging from a spectacular variety of pizzas to authentic Italian dishes made for a discerning palate with the best of ingredients--including delicacies such as truffles.
Assaggi's new chef must be right out of Italy; evident from the warm crusty/gooey rustic bread and the apps: carpaccio and the prosciutto & roasted black figs. We must return for the spaghetti with white truffles that's prepared in a hollowed-out wheel of Parma-Reggiano cheese in the dining room.
We went for our 32nd anniversary - we regularly go to Assaggi's for special occasions, and the level of the food and service justify waiting for these occasions. We also focus on the annual truffle season. We had white truffle last time, this time tried black truffle which was good, but not as good as white, so we'll go back to white next time.
Ate out front, which was comfortable (good weather and heater) and safe. They're doing a very good job, pandemic-considered.
Delicious upscale Italian dining in McLean. Service was excellent across the board from hostess to server to busser to management - best service we've had in recent memory. They pay attention to detail and it shows. Outdoor dining with heaters meant we were comfortable and socially distanced.
The white truffle menu was exquisite and the last dish, the dessert, was divine. Try it! It is so unique and diverse - with gold leaf. I wish I had taken a picture too. Their new pastry chef is definitelly a keeper. To get this dessert you need to get the white truffle menu. For a Saturday night date night this is the best place to go. Romantic setting, great cuisine, wonderful staff and service.
Truly beautiful place. The service and warmth impeccable. The food very delicious. Tried the linguine with truffle special. Truly amazing.
We had a reservation at Assagi Osteria to celebrate my 50th birthday and my son’s 12th birthday but we were seated outside of Assagi Pizza even though there were tables in the front.
The res snapper dish did not have that much flavor a was very small. The pasta dishes were much more flavorful.
There was a note on the reservation about celebrating birthday but the hostess or waiter did not acknowledge them.
I use to dine at Assagi several years ago and remembered the food to be better and portions larger.
Pre-COVID-19, we would go to Assagi perhaps once a week. We have not been back until last Saturday for dinner and we are glad that we did. They have a great outdoor dining area and a new menu because of a new chef. We had tuna tartare, roasted vegetable, halibut and filet mignon and each item was excellent. So they have upped their game!!
One thing has not changed, the fabulous service from Alexandra, Lindsey, and Dushan. We’ll be back soon!
Food was delicious! They have a new chef so there were new items on the menu.
Menú chooses needed
Assaggi is a great neighborhood restaurant . The food, ambiance and warmth of welcome will keep me returning .
The food was great, service competent, and atmosphere pleasant.
Lovely patio. Good service.
Amazing dinner! Thank you!
We ate outside in good seating for the pandemic era. We had very good dishes of burrata, pasta with lobster and a wonderful halibut. Paired with a good Ramey chardonnay we had a nice evening. The service was a bit slow at first, but understandable in the covid era where everyone is stretched. We appreciate the effort and we are patient
Awesome - great food and service
Expensive by local standards but well worth it for very good food, generous portions and excellent service
It is always a pleasure to have drinks or dine at Assaggi Osteria. The staff is superb and the food is very good. Fish as well as traditional pastas are always offered. Their outdoor seating is covered and when it gets too warm, they have socially distanced tables inside for a lovely experience.
Went for our daughters birthday as this is her favorite resturant !!
Service is always perfect at Assagi’s !! The food is excellent as is the wine list
Ambiance was a little different as they could only have outside seating — although it was quite warm there was a nice breeze so that worked out OK
Between the four of us we had halibut , lamb chops, orecchiette, and taggitella — everyone loved everything !!
The lamb chops were mediocre at best. The tuna tartare was slightly above average The pasta , the calamari and the cheesecake were outstanding. Service was outstanding and the setting outside was perfect. Expensive, but I knew that going in.
This was my first time eating out again after 10 weeks of lockdown. The terrace was very nice and the service was great. My only complaint was that everything seemed way overpriced (even for the area). The food itself was very good however. The wine was good but also overpriced.
Wonderful setting outside. Great food and service!
Nothing special. We arrived to an empty restaurant and requested to be seated in the adjoining pizza side and were denied.
Delicious seafood and healthy entree and appetizers. Great wine selection. Knowledgeable wait staff. Good service. A great local restaurant.
We are long-standing customers and have always enjoyed both food for being fairly authentic italian as well as chatting with the staff. We stopped going over a year ago as we found the quality of food had declined. Glad to say that the pasta dish was an improvement on the last one and the pizza is very good. If they extended their HH to 7pm we would definitely stop by again.
Food and service are exceptional!
Hi CarloC Thanks . Looking forward to seeing you again soon
This was my 2nd time at the restaurant, first time for my wife. From start to finish, the food was superior. My wife especially loved her scallops main course, and my veal marsala was excellent. We only split a gelato for dessert, but it was very good gelato. The service was attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant has an excellent wine list, though more diverse price points might be appreciated (for example, many of the Italian reds are $100 and above).
Hi there Thanks for taking the time to review us. We are glad that you enjoyed the food and the service. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
We have eaten here several times over the past number of years, and we are never disappointed. The hand-made pasta is fantastic, and the sauces are incredible each and every time. Cannot recommend this locals place enough.
Hi there Thanks for taking the time to post a review. We are glad that you have been enjoying our hand made pastas for years.
