ASK Italian York
Book a table in The Grand Assembly Rooms, built almost 300 years ago in the Palladian style of architecture, and you’ll be eating in a stunning setting beneath chandeliers and surrounded by Corinthian columns. Where else will you sample authentic Italian cuisine in a room with such impressive architectural heritage?
Staff took quite a while to approach us at the main door.. We had arrived 30 mins early, so appreciated that it may be a wait to arrange a table.. we commented that we’d be happy to wait at their bar, to find this isn’t available (?), or at least there isn’t a bar waiting area- which is a shame considering the potential of the location. The Assembly Rooms could be a beautiful venue, but the decor doesn’t match up to this. Feels more like an echoing canteen (especially when small children run up and down the “wasted” space along the edge of the main room. The sound of their feet bounces off of the walls. The staff are helpful but clearly over stretched on a Saturday. The food was ok.. not much to make you go “wow!”. This was my first experience in ASK Italian, and it was rather, sadly, mediocre.
Lacked atmosphere-probably time of year
Staff pleasant enough, but lack of clear understanding of
open table system
Also lack of customer engagement/warmth
Difficult to quantity but would not recommend or rush back
They didn’t recognize our Open Table reservation. Very disappointing.
Great night with friends, everyone enjoyed their meals, pizzas are fantastic. Service was fast too, we will b back!
Food was tasty. However, two of the entrees were a little cold.
The atmosphere and decor of the restaurant is amazing. The service was efficient and friendly. The food was good, as you would expect from a chain restaurant, but it suited us for a quick pre-theatre meal.
Food wasn’t worth the price. Decent. My chicken on my salad may have been cooked that day but was reheated ..not good. Beautiful building. Our waitress was nice to us and pleasant. The table next to ours was two ladies that apparently kept requesting changes or more from our waitress. Every time she left the table she would make faces and show her exasperation with that particular table. A little unprofessional. It has the potential to be incredible and it just wasn’t.
The waitress that served us was really polite and excellent in her service. The food was delicious and enjoyed the experience. Love the concept of cake and coffee deals for person who wanted something small at the end of the meal. Would be nice to provide nuts free cake for this option. The gelato was nice and reminded me of my time in Venice.
Lovely place to dine when in York should you fancy Italian cuisine
I was dining alone but the staff were very helpful when choosing the courses.
The building is beautiful but the slow service needs to be improved. My food was cold but the other diners sId theirs was ok.
Booked for 6, couldn't find our booking gave us a table for 4. Very cramped. Barely spoken to by staff. Shame as this is the first time in from the reopen and service is normally great and wouldn't fault it just on this occasion we all felt left out.
Excellent restaurant, very good service and friendly staff. Beautiful building and ambiance, definitely recommend
