Asia Nine Bar and Lounge Ratings and Reviews
Asia Nine is a reliable spot for excellent sushi, Thai, and Japanese food. The atmosphere is pleasant and the service excellent. While it is not too far from the Verizon Center and theaters, it is just enough off the beaten path that it’s easy to get a last minute table. Really, I shouldn’t tell people how nice it is, because it might get too crowded!
Spacious Asian fusion restaurant around the corner from Ford's theatre with a large bar and a few TVs in the bar area. We opted for traditional fare and the food was okay, but nothing special. They do have an extensive Sushi menu and perhaps that is their forte. Service and staff were excellent and fast.
It was a good matinee at E Street cinema, and we were headed to a cello recital at the Freer Gallery- this luckily fell on the way! The place is spacious with understated Asian decor and we were graciously seated by the window. We ordered the miso soup- very tasty with shitake mushrooms and scallions- and then barbecued beef- less tangy perhaps than the traditional Korean- but quite well garnished with grilled veggies- the carrots and zucchini tasted particularly good. All in all, a pleasant interlude on a warm early fall Saturday afternoon.
It's always a gamble to take young (10 years and younger) children to a restaurant where not all the food is familiar. In our case, it was the perfect choice and the children and adults in our party loved it. The choices are such a good variety and allowed everyone to eat what they liked.
We have eaten here before, but not recently. We always come for the Sushi, which is fresh and creative. The rest of our dinner was a big disappointment. The spring rolls had little in the way of filling, and the Pad Thai was goopy, over-sauced, and lacked much egg or tofu that I could see. Plus mine had a fly land in it, which make me stop eating at once. I remembered the food being better, too bad.
We were celebrating a birthday. Prior to 9/10/17, my experience with this restaurant was solely for weekday lunch. Sushi should NEVER be served refrigerator-cold! Orders were incorrectly recorded - I never ordered entrée . Owners should visit Tako Grille in Bethesda to see how an Asian-fared establishment should be operating. Will probably never return for dinner. All attendees (10) had the same reaction.
Food is average at best. Got papaya salad that had the smallest of small shrimp and a couple of peanuts. Really just a pile of not very well shredded papaya in a ton of dressing. Service was annoying. Less than 30 seconds after sitting with menus still face down they asked if we were ready to order. Same with the check - put it down and expected us to have paid within 10 seconds. Restaurant was mostly empty so it is not like they needed to rush us out. Not worth it at all.
Summer means cold food for me. The sashimi was superb. It's my go to summer lunch preference. Friday's are busy so plan accordingly either a little early or a little later than majority of crowd. Service didn't suffer tho there were a number of 5+ parties. Sushi bar tables are a bit quieter if it's a biz lunch.
Yesterday, I'm sorry to say that the chicken in our paad thai dish tasted sour. This is the first time we've experienced a bad encounter at AN. We were placed right by the glass door (by the bar), and every time they opened the door, HOT air would blow on us. We asked to be moved. The waitress wasn't very friendly afterwards.
Asia Nine has a broad and varied menu. They seem to do many things well enough...but nothing is outstanding or noteworthy, no dish is signature.
I say this is a good-enough restaurant for lunches, and casual dinners if one is running around downtown, or visiting museums/sights etc., but I would not go out of my way or recommend as anything special.
This place is a real gem! The food was quite good (especially the Peking rolls, which are to die for). While it's menu is not terribly innovative and the decor is a little worse for wear, the food is really good and would appeal to just about anyone. The service was excellent, too...the bartender even charged my phone for me while we ate. I will definitely return to Asia Nine.
It was fine, but you used to be very good. What happened. The menu is shorter and the food is not as good. Why did you change your avocado salad? I used to come here monthly. But since the menu was limited it's been months since I came and now I remember why.
