This splendid yet unpretentious restaurant, along with its sister (completing renovation) on Columbus Avenue at 82nd, offers a broad range of classic Indian dishes at gentle prices. The food is uniformly delicious, served in ample portions, well-seasoned and presented at the perfect temperature. Spice heat and other special requests are graciously handled by an attentive but not overbearing staff. We always order the mushroom appetizer, heavenly salmon curry and sublime chicken tikka masala. Ashoka’s raita is rich and velvety, a perfect accompaniment along with their several naan and rice variations. Indian rice pudding is our go-to dessert, always a cool, calming delicacy at the close of such a flavor-forward dinner.

I give Ashoka my highest recommendation and hope it thrives forever!

Everything at our table was excellent with one glaring exception - the Chicken Tikka Masala. As long as you avoid that dish you’ll have a good meal here.

It was a freezing cold Friday evening and Indian food seemed like the Perfect comfort food. Ashoka was the perfect choice. The atmosphere was levels above most local Indian restaurants. It was warm and cozy and non-drafty and the decor was modern with comfortable banquets. The decor resembles more of a slick Japanese restaurant rather then an Indian restaurant but that elevated the experience. The best part of the evening is that they have live entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. It was 2 guitar players playing old jazz standards most of which I didn’t know but it was till fun. The menu was varied, the food tasty, and the presentation very nice. My Lassi has an umbrella in it and the nan was arranged on a platter with yogurt sauce.

Great service and great meal. We were a party of 7, Sme new to Indian and some veterans, and all loved it. The tandoori mushrooms were unique. Samosas, korma, saag, all wonderfully flavorful, even the dishes we asked to be made mild.

Fabulous saag paneer, very good other dishes, solid wine a cool frosty glasses for beer, nice live music playing that was unnecessary but enjoyable, comfortable seats and space to talk, neighborhood gem we found and will return to often, the service was on the slow side (please make sure to serve the nan WITH the food not half way through) but truly enjoyable

I enjoyed my meal here very much. The Tandoori Chicken Salad appetizer was delicious. My lamb rogan josh was also very good, followed by a delicious kheer for dessert. Service was very attentive.

Very good food. I had chicken Tikka and friends had shrimp curry and eggplant Bertha. Garlic naan was delicious. Music is a nice touch too. Acceptable wines at reasonable prices.
