Best view in Bellevue. A little loud and for the portions the food is too pricy.
Aaron and his team made my brother's birthday lunch enjoyable and delicious. Matt did a super job serving us. The food was fantastic! This was my brother's first visit, and he commented several times how great the food tasted. He will be bringing his wife to dinner at Ascend soon.
My husband and I have been to Ascend several times. This time we were celebrating my sister's recent wedding and asked for a quiet table. Everything was going well until we sat down, it took 30 minutes to take our order. When someone finally took our order he said they were short staffed, when we wanted to order a wine, he said he would "hunt someone down" to take our order. As guests are paying over $90/steak I would expect better service then this. The meal took over 3 hours to complete.
View was awesome, great service and the filet was bucket-listable. They claim to have the worlds best Wagyu A5 filet and they did not let me down. I have yet to taste anything better.
Unbeatable view, good food and decor. Service however lacks training. We were very rushed into placing our orders. Our server came with our drinks and before she set anything down she already asked what we were ordering. She took our orders and explained dishes as she was setting down glasses, drinks, wine. Overall it was obvious she did not have the proper training for service etiquette.
The environment/ambiance was really nice and dark. Everything is very nice and new here. The menu could use some work though. Other high end steak houses have more veggie options. They couldn’t even give us Mac n cheese without crab? No French fries? The dessert menu was pretty trash also. We will probably come back but wasn’t the greatest experience. Service was very slow.
We booked a dinner for 7 to celebrate 2 birthdays. We knew it would be a >$1,000 meal but wanted to treat the family to a fine dining experience. Unfortunately the restaurant didn’t deliver. We started on a poor foot. We walked in and learned the hostess confused a party that had come in right in front of us as us and gave them our table. We were told to wait while they set a new table, and that we could go to the bar. They didn’t offer to comp us a drink or even help get us 7 seats together so we stood in the entrance. Almost 20 minutes later we were seated. The apology received was perfunctory and insincere. A 2nd hostess walks us to our table. She takes us by a display of meats and chefs tending a wood fire. There’s a thin explanation of how the place is great because there’s lots of meat in the display, I don’t think anyone that talked to us had great command of how to talk about high quality food and ingredients. Or they didn’t think we know about these things. For example, at dessert a dish was explained to me as being made from “really expensive chocolate.” Anyway, it was just lame service at fine dining prices at every turn. Wine list was an iPad with an app. So we have screen time at dinner, great. Our server didn’t know about the wine, so we picked things and gave her the item number on the app to order it. The menu is oddly composed. We ordered some sushi, a seafood tower, some mains, all the sides to share and all the deserts to share. We were seated in the second place table since the other party close by took ours. In contrast to the round table the other party had, ours was not right sized for 7, so spacing wasn’t comfortable. Table was too dark. Food came that we could barely see, so presentation work was wasted on every dish. Music was too loud for comfortable conversation. A server dropped a butter knife across my back clearing. Service items came at wrong times. I could go on. We didn’t receive the $225/person experience we paid for. Sad.
Everything from walking in to the view from the table was amazing. Staff was friendly greated with a smile by everyone, I recommended you say yes to the tour if it’s your first time. Drinks all great, pork belly appetizer literally melts in your mouth. Dinner steak was amazing perfectly cooked. And dessert is definitely a show.
Service was divine. Our waiter, Phillip, and his team were the absolute best. Fod was creative and delicious. Birthday dessert was extroidinary!
Best foods in the area! Way better than Canlis, better than John Howie. Superb foods.
I realize it's a steak house, but they need some seafood options, especially on lunch menu. The 2.5% surcharge for kitchen staff is a bit off-putting - I just deduct it from my normal 20% tip.
Think Daniel's with higher prices and smaller portions
Nice restaurant with great view. Our server was good, but our food took long. We waited almost 30 min until our steaks came out and we were already done with the appetizers we ordered. We went for my husband’s birthday and they gave him a birthday dessert which was nice.
No action taken on comment for overly salty appetizer. Pushy upsell to exclusive beef option. Poor wine recommendation, no action on comment.
There are so many things to like about Ascend but what gets it downgraded is the food. If you want a great restaurant experience with attentive service a wonderful view and fun cocktails Ascend is for you. If you are into food and have high expectations then the restaurant may let you down. At the prices and the expectation of quality one hopes that the food will be the star of the show. This was my second time at Ascend and have found the food puzzling in its inconsistency. Simple things should be easy to fix and they seem to miss. For example I had a steak with a side sauce. The steak was cooked fine and as I ordered but the sauce was served cold right from the fridge. This also happened with the salads that were served in that they seem to be served with very little concern to the salad preparation. It was as if I was getting a salad from Subway and they just threw it in a bowl hoping it would mix. I expect this at a pizza joint but not here. There are other aspects that seem out of place like the iPad drink menus. These seem gimmicky and are distracting at this level of service. Overall the restaurant food it too formulaic without enough attention to detail to ensure that the the food is the experience that shines.
In the end the question always is would I go there again? The answer is yes. However, I would not go for the food. Because of the wonderful location and great service it makes for a special evening and if that is your goal enjoy.
Great date night. Service was memorable and the food amazing. A bit loud tho.
Great view and wonderful food. That is where it ends - we were there for a celebration and enjoyed the $25 cocktails (maybe not) and then sat down to eat - we left the server up to helping build a great meal as we chatted and enjoyed our guests - this is where is went all wrong. Taking full responsibility of course, we do feel quite taken advantage of as we decided on 2x8oz portions of steak for guys and 2x6oz portion for gals. NOT ONCE did the server clarify to us that we were ordering almost $1100 worth of beef!! Yes, you are reading that right....... we were caught up in conversation and having fun when the bill arrived for $1650!!!!!!! (we already spent $160 on a couple of drinks - ouch). This amount also did not include tip. This was for four diners w/ a standard meal. I would highly recommend paying close attention to prices as we were not made aware that beef is priced by the ounce. BE VERY CAREFUL!!! So the celebration left our wives in tears as we were all in shock.........most likely will never return. Herb Farm is a nine course NW chef amazing experience for $695 for two and far more worth the money.
Everything was very high quality and delicious. Definitely higher end steak house. The 7 ounce filet mignon was a great value. The surprise for us was the chicken. It was without a doubt the best restaurant roasted chicken I have ever tasted. I would order that again. The only disappointment was the choice of salads. Too eclectic. If you don’t like seafood you’re out of luck. Adding a more traditional green or wedge salad would be appreciated by many. The Tantra dessert was to die for. A must have.
One of the finest restaurants on Seattle's Eastside. Food was great. Service was outstanding. Ambiance was very special.
Great food, always find service slow. Takes 15-20 min to get drinks.
New Year’s Eve lunch! Great weather and phenomenal view!
For the price, it wasn’t amazing. Great views and very cool space.
Truly exceptional food, service and environment! The staff here are extremely professional and obviously very experienced. We were celebrating my son's engagement and so it was a special occasion. The food was above and beyond, EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious, our taste buds were in heaven! It was all served at the correct temperatures, beautifully presented and paced exactly right. I had noticed some reviews mentioned slow service but for us it was perfect. It is expensive, but in my opinion it is 100% worth it. The experience and memories created at that meal are priceless! Highly recommend.
Ascend is pretty simple. They provide great food and great service. You pay lots of money. Simple. Steak is unusually good and I frankly can't tell the difference between one Wagyu or another but it was all yummy and I might have used a spoon to eat the steak I ordered. Think Daniels Broiler but with swagger and cleaner rugs. Think John Howie without the stale corporate vibe and staff pushing sides ( more Mac & Cheese for the table?) . Would recommend for a special family/personal celebration or significant meet with clients. If for business might want to shoot for a private room as the main room is a bit too dark. Awesome view of the city from there bar. Will be back....
Food was great but limited selections on sushi rolls. I think there's only 4-5 different rolls available.
The seafood platter took way too long. We got it almost 45 mins after we ordered it. Other than that, it's a great restaurant for special occasions. It's a little pricey but worth it.
For the first five to 10 minutes the service was too aggressive. Four different people stopped to take our order. We were just getting seated and reading the menu. Applied to both food and beverage. At one point, my wife actually said there were too many service people.
It would be great if you served filtered or sparkling water.
It would be great if you served good French baguette.
Overall, the restaurant was wonderful. Definitely get what you pay for! The aged steak was phenomenal and I highly recommend the pork belly appetizer. The only downside to my whole experience is that when I asked for a bottle that was in my price range, the server recommended one that was way over priced. He said, “it’s in the same price range...” then I received my bill and it was double the price of the bottle I asked for. Also, there are hidden fees like a $30 cake cutting fee, and one of our sides never came out so I asked for them to remove it from my bill. Minus the tiny hidden fees and the server trying to up-sell the menu it was a great experience and I had a great time for my birthday.
The restaurant itself is beautiful and the views were amazing. I’m a vegetarian and there were truly no options for me other than sides. My five meat and seafood eating friends were not thrilled with their meals either.
Food were on the saltier side, sent back lobster Mac and cheese but kept the steak and others bc friend felt bad. Server wasn’t that great, checked on us 3 times throughout the 3 hours meal but checked on the table next to us tons of times; Other wait staffs were more attentive to us than our server, maybe that’s how it’s ran...Wouldn’t have agreed to the 20% auto tip but friend paid. Would come back to the bar area.
Incredible food. Way better than Canlis although service is not as impeccable as Canlis or John Howie.
Loud, Overpriced, and Chaotic combinations make this place forgettable. The view is nice, but then you can't taste the view. Drinks can be as much as 2 1/2 times the usual price at a high end restaurant.
This place seems like it is designed for Instagram photos and definitely not for cuisine.
Incredible views and beautiful restaurant. The food was excellent, service was first class and the ambience is like no other. We celebrated our 10-yr wedding anniversary at Ascend and everything was perfect! We will be back for sure.
excellent experience, good food, amazing sushi, worth paying. they have the best view in town and perfect ambiance. Service is very good as you should expect. The presentation is very good. Helpful staff, a bit pricey but the quality is amazing. Perfect place for special occasions. overall its an experience you should try
They had a set meal so this wasn't the usual fare. We asked the waiter a question about what the vegetables were and he didn't know, said he find out but never got back to us. The crab was smothered in a sauce that overwhelmed the crab. Infect a number of sauces on the plates although visually attractive were tasteless and offered nothing to my enjoyment of the dish. Really was disappointed with most everything but the view and the privacy of the booth. I was disappointed with staff and meal I'm sorry to say and for the price I think it should have been better!
Because of the cost this is more of a special occasion kind of place for us. The food is wonderful and we wish they normally also had a price fixe menu as we tried, and loved, menu items we never would have ordered on our own.
We were excited to book Christmas Eve at Ascend, and looking forward to the occasion, however ended up being a disappointment. The holiday menu was odd for a steak and seafood fine dining restaurant, and was very bland. One tiny oyster as the appetizer, pork belly, and soggy beef Wellington. I had the second course show up before the starter and no wine. After that the wine pairing did not match the courses. The final course sat there since they did not bring a fork or steak knife. At $500 bill for two would expect excellence but the food was forgettable and service sporadic and disjointed. The view did not make up for the poor experience.
Christmas Eve dinner. Excellent dinner & experience!!!!
Very slow between courses. One table arrived after us and they got their 3rd course way before we did. Also a couple got there exact same time as us and left an hour before us
A delicious and beautiful Christmas Eve dinner with a view to match. They were able to fulfill our request for a window table and space for our baby stroller, which was nice.
