Asador Bastian is a Chicago chophouse with Basque influences from acclaimed Chef
Doug Psaltis. Located in the iconic “Flair House” originally built in 1883, this historic
townhouse has been revived and brought back to life with culinary inspiration from the
great asadors of San Sebastián, Spain to serve the world’s best boutique beef without
compromise. The most remarkable dining experience comes from the purest ingredients
delivered in the supremely thoughtful, welcoming and hospitable manner. This ethos
has directed every aspect of the experience at Asador Bastian, whether you’re joining
us for small bites and libations in our Bar Room or for a more intimate experience in our
Dining Room.

Del equipo editorial de OpenTable: In a historic River North townhouse, you’ll find Asador Bastion, named one of 2023’s best new restaurants by Esquire. Acclaimed wife-and-husband team Hsing Chen and Doug Psaltis lead the kitchen, which turns out Basque-inspired feasts starring impressive steaks cooked over a live-fire grill alongside caviar churros and arroz cremoso. It’s all served in an opulent dining room decked with olive green leather banquettes and vintage Murano glass chandeliers.

    At Asador Bastian we are excited to offer our Chef's Table; a one of a kind experience. Our Chef's Table is located directly across from our kitchen where you will have a full view of our world class chefs at work creating the dishes that make our restaurant so unique. The Chef's Table is an experience created for 6 or 10 guests. A deposit of $150 per person is required for booking this private dining room. The deposit is applied to the final bill.     What a find! Love the unobtrusive location. Every bite was delicious from. The fois gras to Galician steak to the cheesecake and everything in between. Delicious. Definitely a must when in Chicago! Staff was accommodating and friendly.

    Hi all. Overall, I was very excited to dine at Asador Bastian. Great menu,/wine list, vibe, and staff. It is pricey, just know that going into this experience and that was my expectation. My review: Fish was fishy: We had oysters, sardines, and both were off. Dined on a Sunday night, and they get fish every 3 days. Steaks - They are rich in flavor, we ordered 3 different types for 5 people, and that was enough. Sides: Mushrooms and fried rice- both were great. Service: people were great; the kitchen timing or the way they course up the service was off. Would I go back? No Do I regret going? Not sure, we had a great time, but for the money, my expectations on food quality and service are higher.

    Beyond impressive. Every aspect from start to finish was terrific. Special mention to our bartender Nikita who guided us through our entire experience. Nikita was an encyclopedia of knowledge but kept things light & fun. Hosts, managers & staff were all great too. Looking forward to returning to go through the chefs table experience soon!

    Definitely a special occasion restaurant. Four of us. 2 slot the fish, 2 split the Galician steak. All cooked perfectly. Sides including the bone marrow mashed potatoes and crispy artichokes were fantastic. But the dessert, oh my, the chocolate hazelnut cake is what dreams are made of. Pricey but worth it. Excellent service, well paced courses and beautiful space. Looking for an excuse to go back as soon as I can afford it

    Exceptional meal. Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Atmosphere is refined without being fussy. A must-try (and return to) in Chicago.

    It’s probably the best steak I had in my recent years. I’ve been to many fine dining restaurants across NYC Toronto Tokyo and HK, but the steak really gave me a wow. It had the right balance of fat marble and the meaty flavor, executed perfectly with a potato chip like crisp outside, medium rare inside with very sufficient resting. The jambon appetizer was a nice start. The last I had the same quality of jambon was in Madrid. The crab risotto was beautiful. It’s pretty rich so after maybe 6 bites it will start to feel salty and heavy. We shared it so it’s perfect. The famous burnt cheesecake was a bit overrated thou. But overall I would say this is one of the best meals I’ve had in the last 5 years.

    We enjoyed our time with family. The wait staff is very attentive. The food is top of the line steaks. The restaurant is an experience, so try new things and enjoy.
