ASA - Los Altos
I added a note that is was a birthday celebration, but they didn’t do anything.
Bruno is the secret weapon. This guy is a truly gracious host.
I thought the food was really very good - prices were high, but worth it! Recommend it for foodies. Noise level pretty high, though!
Absolutely love this restaurant but last night's dinner was not up to par. I brought several friends here to celebrate my birthday. The service, usually fantastic, was slow and unprofessional, teetering on rude. It took forever for us to even place our order, as the server did not come over for at least 30 minutes. Our first and second courses did come out in normal time, but sadly, nothing was outstanding. This was so different from my previous dinners at ASA where the whole experience felt very elevated: food, service, atmosphere. I will definitely go back, but last night was disappointing.
Fabulous food, fabulous service
ASA is always a great experience. Super service. Friendly host and staff. They love what they do and they do it well.
Our friends loved this place! The Iberian ham, the chicken, the fabulous chocolate sorbet. We are happy to have introduced them to a great restaurant.
Food was really slow to come out of the kitchen
Food is good. But service is a bit slow. I thought it was a bit overpriced.
We loved everything about ASA except that they need to step up their exhaust game. Our clothes smelled like the restaurant when we left.
Bruno is the absolute best! Great food and wine
The food was pretty decent until we saw the check. For the $$$ we surely could get a meal at a Michelin star restaurant. Having said that the service is great. The staff is very friendly and they do everything possible to make you comfortable.
Service was pretty bad. Food is overpriced
Flavors are delicious and selection of seafood on the menu is great.
Desserts were great (lemon curd was amazing). None of the other dishes were outstanding. Scallops A-, mushroom pasta C, lobster brioche D
Service, however, was excellent.
Andrew Welch continues to impress. Asa is phenomenal from start to finish. Wait staff is attentive and the food was excellent. We had the Filet Mignon and Ribeye tonight. Ribeye portions were tremendous and glad to take some home for tomorrow! Can’t wait to experience Asa Los Gatos when it opens!!!
I love this restaurant by Andrew and his chef and staff. The food is fantastic with wonderfully blended flavors and the fish is cooked perfectly. if you want fish cooked well done and over salted, this is not the place for you, or let them know. Be experimental and let them choose your wine!!! MAKE A RESERVATION..
Delicious food. Will come again.
Bruno was fantastic in helping us decide on the wine recommendations, as well as the food selection. I love his enthusiasm and our Dutch guests were very impressed with the high quity of food and supervb service. The npise level though is not the best!
We love the food here. It’s consistently phenomenal. The service is top notch. It’s pricey, yes...but so worth it!!
Service was very slow. There was a large table that took a lot of time, however our server offered no comment at first as to why our wait was so long. After our appetizers, he came by and asked if we wanted dessert! We said we hadn’t even gotten our entrees yet. We waited at least 30 minutes, if not more, for our entrees. There was no compensation offered for having to wait so long. No free dessert or half off anything or discount, which is frequently offered if there is a problem with getting meals on time or a problem with an order. The food was good, although not outstanding. The drink I love and that I have ordered over the years when at the Basin, was not available. They did not have Malibu rum or pineapple. The drink I love is called a Jeff Spicoli and I can only hope they are better stocked with alcohol at their new location in Los Gatos.
Great food, great vibe, great service. All in all, really a terrific experience. So glad you've stepped up the dining scene in Los Altos.
Food is great, but a bit on the pricier side. Service is amazing. Thanks to Lorreta(?) for a really nice night.
For starters, we ordered the anchovy bread, lobster toast, clams, and duck fat potatoes.
For mains, we ordered the duck 2 ways, trout, and wild mushroom pasta.
Everything we ordered was delicious (highly recommend the lobster toast), but the few criticisms my party had were:
1. The wild mushroom pasta was a little bitter. I'm guessing the chef added too much wine in the sauce. Understandable mistake.
2. The clams were sandy (according to my Dad). I thought they were fine.
Andrew and team are amazing, they make every dinner a special occasion!
Andrew is a wonderful host and wait staff is extremely well trained, attentive, and knowledgeable. The food is incredible - to not miss the paella!!
We have never had any disappointment whatsoever at this restaurant. It’s always been great! The service the food are always excellent and no wonder it’s always packed!!!
Great food and fun atmosphere. Would go back if we can.
Our waiter was not very responsive but the host was amazing! The food was excellent, so I will definitely be returning.
We had lobster toast, warm watermelon salad, black cod, and seared scallops. Everything was very good, the skin of the black cod was crispy while the meat very tender and soft. The sear on the scallops was amazing and they were cooked to perfection .
Wonderful meal...attentive and timely without being invasive. Try the paella!
first time here..great food.....good location..parking easy..service questionable..we sat outside so noise was tolerable but i suspect it is noisy inside.
Our group was originally 4 people, however at the last minute we added one more so I was worried it might be a problem. Nevertheless we continued our journey from Fremont to Los Altos. Upon arriving Andrew greeted us and without hesitation accommodated our extra guest. Lorena was our amazing server for the evening. She is friendly, informative, & patient. The food is fabulous and completely different from our selection in Fremont. We will definitely bring more people and head back to Asa again.
Very well prepared dishes all around with top quality ingredients. Server was cheerful and truly a difference maker in a good way
generally good food, but i'd take a pass on the salads......chicken and pastas are recommended.
wine list is ample and well-diversified, but pricey...….$29 corkage...….very noisy when full, as others have noted.would repeat.
We had a wonderful time at our first visit to ASAs. Fabulous welcome and service, delicious food and drinks. Will definitely return. Highly recommend
There food and service is amazing! Consistent each and every time.
Never leave hungry or thirsty.
Great local restaurant that consistently offers great food and great service. Our favorite place in Los Altos.
I am NOT cheap ... but when I pay this much for an entre I want to be wow'd. The Wow factor just wasn't there.. I left, after pay close to $200 for 2 people thinking it was a waste of money. Meh... just meh.
Tremendous service and exquisite food!
Despite excellent service and pleasant atmosphere the quality of the food was mixed. Two of us had lobster toast which lots of lobster but all we could taste were the spices including one that was quite hot. The wonderful flavor of lobster was completely masked. The paelia was good, the scallops were wonderful, and the duck while plentiful, was not so good. The breast was so heavily spiced it had no resemblance to duck and the confit leg, while wonderfully moist and tender, was flavorless. There was no written desert menu. The waiter gave us a list including "chocolate sorbet". I ordered it without asking for additional information. It came decorated with large crystals of salt that overwhelmed. Once removed the gelato, not sorbet, was very good but had a stringy consistency. Finally the wine. We had single glasses of a nice spanish wine which was the cheapest on the menu. The waiter offered an additional half glass which one of us took. It ended up as little more than a taste. Among the three of us we had four appetizers, two entrées, two desserts, and three and a half glasses of wine. The bill was about $250. Not worth it.
