ASA - Los Altos
We had a wonderful time at our first visit to ASAs. Fabulous welcome and service, delicious food and drinks. Will definitely return. Highly recommend
There food and service is amazing! Consistent each and every time.
Never leave hungry or thirsty.
Great local restaurant that consistently offers great food and great service. Our favorite place in Los Altos.
I am NOT cheap ... but when I pay this much for an entre I want to be wow'd. The Wow factor just wasn't there.. I left, after pay close to $200 for 2 people thinking it was a waste of money. Meh... just meh.
Despite excellent service and pleasant atmosphere the quality of the food was mixed. Two of us had lobster toast which lots of lobster but all we could taste were the spices including one that was quite hot. The wonderful flavor of lobster was completely masked. The paelia was good, the scallops were wonderful, and the duck while plentiful, was not so good. The breast was so heavily spiced it had no resemblance to duck and the confit leg, while wonderfully moist and tender, was flavorless. There was no written desert menu. The waiter gave us a list including "chocolate sorbet". I ordered it without asking for additional information. It came decorated with large crystals of salt that overwhelmed. Once removed the gelato, not sorbet, was very good but had a stringy consistency. Finally the wine. We had single glasses of a nice spanish wine which was the cheapest on the menu. The waiter offered an additional half glass which one of us took. It ended up as little more than a taste. Among the three of us we had four appetizers, two entrées, two desserts, and three and a half glasses of wine. The bill was about $250. Not worth it.
ASA is our "go to" restaurant in Los Altos when we want to treat ourselves. Bruno is an excellent maitre d. And Andrew always makes us feel welcome. The food and service are reliable excellent!
Delicious oysters, also the shrimp appetizer had a lovely sauce. We each chose a pasta for the main...my wild mushroom was silky and lush. The Arriabata had just the right amount of heat. Meyer Lemon dessert was just the right serving size and the lemon curd was fabulous, but too much sweet cream for my taste. Service was attentive, perhaps a bit too much. I wanted our server to be more relaxed and not quite so "scripted" in his conversation. That said, we had a wonderful dinner and low-key celebration for my birthday and we'd go back.
ASA is ALWAYS good ! We’be been there at least three times, and would highly recommend it to our friends if they ever stayed in town long enough to make plans.
I really like the place. Hope they remain in business for many years.
Outstanding food and service. We’ve had consistently good experience with Andrew and his crew.
Great restaurant! Fantastic food and service!
Seemed understaffed. Long wait to order drinks...maybe 1/2 hour and then a long wait for the drinks...3 cocktails and 1 wine. Then to order entrees another sizable wait. Food was OK. I ordered the clams which I have enjoyed at least twice before and they were not the same at all...in fact there was no broth, very salty and a disappointment...I would have asked for a redo but as we were with another couple and we had already waited quite a long time..I did not. If I were there alone I would have.
I will still give them another chance as I overall like the restaurant and this was a first.
Wonderful food. Service was excellent until the place got full and the noise went way up, around 7 P.M.
We'll be back, but only very early.
Wonderful restaurant great service very accommodating. Outdoor seating the best
Super friendly staff. Food was fantastic. We started with the vegetable paella which was a little bland but the crispy rice was perfect. We then had the ball for the soul which was ordered with some trepidation-fear of fishy soup. But do not worry, the soup was rich and flavorful, full of chunks of fresh fish and succulent shrimp. We then have the bone in pork chop which was prepared eating well but despite that was still quite juicy and full of flavor.
All in all a fantastic meal.
I've eaten twice at Asa in the past 2 weeks, both times I was served by Chris, and he was outstanding - knowledgable, personable, and engaging. The food and ambience was engaging and energetic. The second evening, we were also attended by a personable maitre d, I believe Andrew, and another server, Lily, she was very lively and fun. We really enjoyed our experience, and the food was exceptional.
Consistently interesting and delicious food in a lovely, fun environment.
Our first time here and we enjoyed all dishes we tried
Andrew and his amazing staff make every visit special. The excellent food is matched by inventive cocktails and a great wine selection. And the service is second to none. Best restaurant in Los Altos and arguably the entire peninsula.
Our waiter was so engaging and helpful. The food was amazing. Definitely will go again but since it is pricey, will go for a special occasion.
Simple, no fuss, attentive service.
Great experience in every way. From great communication before our meal (I asked to move our reservation up and they were kind enough to give me a ring when it looked like some tables would free up), to some creative and delicious drinks, to an attentive and friendly server, to delicious meals all around, we had a great time!
We usually love coming to ASA for the great food and fine service. However last Wednesday was a big exception. The server wasn’t interested in serving us and after insisting she told us about all the specials. Brought the wrong wine a couple of times. On top of that I had ordered my steak - medium-rare and she came back to me with a well done steak. Finally she took it back to the kitchen and brought me a rare steak. She never even came back to us to serve more wine or water. Very bad experience which will prevent me from coming back here or recommending it anymore to my friends. Disappointing!
Always a solid experience!
Food was surprisingly good: the shrimp appetizer and chocolate sorbet were among the best I have ever tasted. The service was friendly but structurally flawed: since only one person was taking orders, we had to wait 25 minutes before placing ours.
The flavors were delightful. Third time there and has not disappointed us yet. My ultimate favorite is the Paella. You get a balance of flavors along with a subtle crunch from the rice. Fabulous selection of signature drinks which takes awhile to create, so order first. We had the deconstructed banana split for dessert, which tasted fine, and definitely not out of this world. If you are in the area, make sure to stay awhile and have a bite here. Worth the trip
Great experience, food was fantastic, highly recommend the paella. Not a cheap place but the food is worth it.
ASA is our favorite restaurant in the South Bay. The food is excellent, and the service is great - they even offered us the wine because the food apparently came late (which we didn't notice).
Ordered the halibut. Was instead served a very soft and mushy seafood dish. It wasn’t halibut. So, paid too much for a mystery dinner.
enjoyed a very nice dinner on thursday night, sat outside and enjoyed the farmers market in front of us. the service and food at Asa were exquisite.
This is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. The food is phenomenal.
A rather ordinary restaurant with a lot of business so someone must like it. We sat on the sidewalk in front of the place because it was quieter than the inside. But it is probably more comfortable inside. Food was expensive for what we got. Service was plate carrying type. Raw oysters are $3.50 each highest in the area as an example.
Overpriced and overrated. There are better options in Los Altos.
We have eaten at Asa several times now. It never disappoints, always delights us. This last visit was to celebrate my wife's birthday. The staff is excellent only rivaled by the food. We'll be back.
Excellent, creative food. Very nice wine list. Excellent service. Lively dining area.
Great ambiance and location. The food is good and the service excellent.
Fantastic wine and amazing food.
Excellent service as always. Food was great and they had a little birthday ice cream for my sister-in-law. Will be back again for more!
This restaurant is a fantastic retreat in Los Altos. It's a place to enjoy cuisine with the perfect combination of top quality ingredients and flavors. The staff is always highly professional and warm. The owner is one of the nicest fellows you'll meet. The menu changes according to the season and it's always a wonderful surprise. But don't worry, some regular staples are always available.
Really enjoyed everything about this dining experience!! Our waiter was beyond exceptional!!
