Great combination of steakhouse and Persian cuisine. Everything we ordered was excellent, and the service was as well.
I like ethnic restaurants that have native speaking service staff. the entire restaurant are Americans. Nothing wrong with that. But when you couple that with the decor which is sub par, it feels very out of place. You just don't feel like you are in a Persian restaurant. the only thing that is good about this place is their beef dishes. they brought us cold rice crust and lukewarm tea; both of which we had to ask for a redo. This is a so so place. May be good for a family with lots of kids.
Waiter was excellent. Prompt, friendly, helpful! Would definitely return!
I thought the menu was overpriced for the value received.
From start to finish, this was one of the best dining experiences my husband and I have had. Our waitress was professional but very nice and helpful and was very knowledgeable about the menu. The food was fantastic. Portions were large and presentation was beautiful! And whatever you do, save room for the chocolate eggshell dessert. It was insanely, scrape the bottom of the bowl good. And don't get me started on the chutney that comes with their bread!! They were nice enough to send some home with us. I highly recommend trying Arya!
Overall this was pretty good and fit the bill for a former Greek kabob place turned classic steakhouse. The crab cakes were delicious and well portioned and perfectly seasoned. Steve was easy going and even charming at times. But seasoning was a little too salty for the mushroom side dish. Still I would come back for the food except the cocktail jumbo shrimp was over cooked and not chilled enough so they were mealy.
Disappointment was really about the fact that we were a late seating but we did make a reservation and as soon as we were the last table (we left only 10 minutes after the other couple) remaining the server and busboy broke down every single other table - loudly I might add- suggesting perhaps we better not even think about coffee. It was a real buzz kill and felt like a kick in the rear.
But in contrast the receptionist gentleman was very cordial nice and accommodating and let us switch tables for a fireside seat. So maybe it’s just inconsistent training?
Anyway I never had the sense that I was an island in an empty desolate place before in a place of this caliber. Jury is out for a return visit but if you like good Greek cuisine worth a try.
The food was not as good as it was last time dined there. Paella was way salty and the stew was just eh. Our server was not tentative and the service was poor. It took so long for the food to come out almost one hour. I wonder if the owner changed bc the menu changed as well.
We've been to Arya several times. The food has been consistently good and the ambiance is charming.
The service has been inconsistent; always friendly and accommodating, but sometimes very attentive, sometimes not so.
If you have time for a pleasant dinner without time constraints, it's a great option.
We were looking forward to visiting the steakhouse - hard to find one today. Sadly, we were disappointed. Dinner took 2 1/2 hours on a Wednesday night. Much too much lag between waiter visits. Three of us ordered rib eye steaks and all three were cold. We hailed the manager to find our waiter at one point and she said they were short on staff.
Great location, nice atmosphere, hopefully they can get it together.
Excellent food, service and ambience. Everything on the brunch and regular menu is worth trying. Have yet to try anything on the menu that was not good.
Amazing food excellent service. Every time I go everything is perfect!!!
This was our first time here after looking at menu several times we decided to try it. Filet mignon was very tender. Mushroom soup was outstanding. Bread pudding dessert should have been warmed. Great meal. Will return.
We had reservations for 2 people and had requested a booth. When we arrived at 5:15 there were only 3 other parties in the restaurant. All booths were empty. We requested a booth that was set for 2 and was told that all guests had pre-specified seating according to the restaurant floor plan and that booths were reserved for 4 or more. We were told that it was going to be a very busy night and we shouldn't expect a stellar experience. We were then seated right next to another couple instead of a few tables away. When we requested a different table for 2, we were told it wasn't possible, even though there were numerous open tables. Then we were approached by Jennifer to take our order. When she stepped away, a different person began taking care of us. When we asked for Jennifer, there was a bit of a discussion at the hostess stand, then she was sent to wait on us. The ONLY good part of the evening was Jennifer and her service. My wife ordered the paella and about 4 bites in, she discovered a hair in the dish. At the same time, 2 different couples came in and each couple were seated in a booth. When I went to the hostess stand to ask why we couldn't have a booth, I was told "that's just the way it is". Our food came out quickly and we couldn't enjoy our wine before dinner. We did not say anything about the hair in my wife's dish because we just wanted to pay and leave. We are locals and have been to Arya several times and enjoyed it which is why we selected it for Valentines Day. It was a very unpleasant experience and we will not be back. The day before we went I recommended Arya to a friend, and today I told her to not bother going. I'll be telling others the same thing.
They didn’t have the wine I selected, my date’s drink was too strong, the dip for the bread was too spicy for my date, the shrimp on the seafood tower was raw, my date’s lamb chops were too salty to eat and when they brought out a new order they were under cooked. The chocolate cake was pretty good but the rosewater desert wasn’t. I spent $300 and will not be returning, I’ve had far better experiences at places for 1/3 of the price.
Very special place. They make you feel incredibly welcome
the server allotted to our table was not polite. She took our wine glasses even before we had a chance to think about drinks. her talking was impolite and could have been better. i ordered the icecream on the desert, it felt storebought and had lot of ice in it. my opinion why i order food here, i could have just bought something frozen. i do not wish to come here again. overall experience was bad. it was a business lunch and the overall setting was not comfortable with the waitress and also the guy at the end with the take out boxes. he dropped the food at the end of our meal.
The food was over priced for what you get. You have to pay extra for each side. The restaurant was pretty empty and it took 45 minutes for us to get our food.
We love Arya! The service and food are wonderful! This is a real gem in downtown Redwood City. Our favorite waitress is Jenny, but we have always had great service.
Great location with tasty and interesting food, especially steak, and lovely service.
Very nice evening. Pleasant service. A little short on there wine supply (tried 4 wines before they had what I ordered). Good food and environment!
Arya stretches beyond its Persian roots to deliver a comprehensive steakhouse menu in a sedate, luxe setting. We came for a mom’s night out dinner, and were treated very well by all of the front of house staff. My only feedback/advice is don’t come for the cocktails. They do not offer a full bar, only sake-based cocktails. The wine list, however, is robust and has a good range of affordable, quality wines. A lovely meal.
It was my first time visiting and they won me over completely. They are now my #1 pick for steak or kabobs in the area, you cannot go wrong. I think I may have to eat here weekly.
We came in thinking Arya was a traditional steakhouse. They've recently changed their menu to be more of a Persian steakhouse. We ordered food from the Persian style of choice. The food was not quite as good as Dish Dash in Sunnyvale.
New years eve ! our waitress was fantastic and the food delicious .
They need to improve the quality of the meat they use.
Great food. Great Service. Server Jennifer quite knowledgeable and helpful guide through the menu.
Excellent food, excellent service, Jennifer was an amazing help with deciding what to have and service was excellent. Always a pleasure to eat here.
They were not prepared for the volume of reservations in Christmas Day. Servers were stretched too thin, they ran out of some food items, and kitchen was backed up. Also - food was over priced and mediocre at best. I likely will not be back.
It all boils down to one dish. The paella was inedible. It was a mixture of rice and ingredients, mixed together, and served in a bowl of broth. It was more like a soup than a rice dish. The rest of the food was mediocre. But the paella was the reason for a two star review. I suggest avoid this dish.
Well, if they had had my reservation perhaps we would have stayed, even though they were rude and dismissive from the onset. My friend and I waited close to 10 minutes at the hostess station while several staff walked by, made eye contact, didn't even greet us, and continued on - and the restaurant wasn't even full. Once the hostess came over she could not find our Opentable reservation. My friend, who sat at the bar waiting for me to arrive, said the bartender had the same attitude, so we told the hostess that since they didn't have the reservation and we didn't think we wanted to stay, we were going to leave. The interior of the restaurant is pleasant and the ratings were good, but with that kind of attitude, I don't think I will give it a second chance.
My husband and I had a dinner date on Saturday night. The service was incredible and food was really good. I would definitely recommend this restaurant even with larger groups.
Cheese on Oysters Rockefeller was stringy, very bad representation of a classic dish.
Steak was cooked well, medium rare. Truffle fries were cold and tasteless.
Spinach side was tasty. Not very impressed overall. Would not go back.
The food was a bit all over the place, and the rice my partner ordered was not available - but rather than come out and inform her, the kitchen/server just substituted without prior notification.
Steve was amazing and so much fun!!! My family had the best dinner ever! Incredible food and service!
Clean, nice decor friendly staff. Food watch a cooking show if you are not the greatest cook and save 200 bucks.
Nice atmosphere and wonderful food. It is a little pricey for a price conscience patron, but the staff was nice and the location was superb.
We like many things about Arya; especially their Persian specialties. That is what will keep us coming back. Unfortunately, my husband’s steak was very tough and he could only eat a few bites. Our superb server offered us a discount on our meal so we felt like he did his best to make our experience a good one. I️ write this review in hopes that the person who does the purchasing will know about the problem. At $38 for a tough steak is not a good value.
yummy yummy yummy...
the only thing missing from this restaurant is a full bar
First of all, how can a real "Steakhouse" not have a full bar? Its wine or beer only here. Our waiter forgot we ordered calamari; it never came and nothing was offered to reconcile the issue. Steak was pretty good, but more expensive than it should be. It wasn't very crowded, however the waiter was lacking in attention; we had to pour our own wine. Not a real big deal, but a "Steakhouse" charging these prices should be very attentive to service. There's a lot of better options for steak all around Redwood City.
Great food, accommodating and pleasant service. Good value for lovely, convenient location.
