Arugula Ratings and Reviews
Always loved Arugula in the past but this time found service extremely slow, they were out of several items food was mediocre, and the poor acoustics made conversation difficult. Granted it was first bite week but they seemed very tired of it. Had I not had previous great experiences, it may have been my last bite!
Horrible service, was overcharged $15.00 for a dish we didn't order. When I showed it to them, they took it off, but commented how it was accidentally put on all the tickets of the evening and I was the only customer who caught it. HUH, very strange. They made a lot of profit that night!
I have dined at Arugula many times and am sorry to say, I see the quality going down hill.
Previously, the focus has been on Italian cuisine and many of the offerings now do not have that flavor profile. I ordered the salmon with lentils and the menu did say the lentils had an Indian spice profile and I'm fine with that. Problem was the seasoning for the lentils was sharp and not the kind of mellow Indian spices I would expect and the lentils were slightly under done so a bit crunchy.
Wine by the bottle is way to pricey for the entree prices and the offering of wines by the glass hasn't changed in months. I am sad to say, Arugula is feeling tired and lacking inspiration.
WOW!! Arugula does it again....!! Been coming here for years and we have found it to be invariably consistently wonderful. This "date night" we thought that the food was, once again, tremendous and the wine choices, while not as wide as some other venues in and around Boulder, varied, well chosen and not especially pricey. While the service seems to have changed over the last year (?) and was - perhaps - not quite as polished and professional as with our previous visits; the staff were still friendly, helpful and pretty knowledgeable too. The ambiance was excellent and the venue nicely laid out and presented. Would we return? Yes - the sooner the better!!
We have really enjoyed this restaurant in the past, but not tonight. The service was poor as the waitress was very engaged with a table of her apparent friends and had little time for us. The food was average (salmon) and bad (asparagus gnocchi). There was so much garlic that you couldn't taste anything else. We probably won't be back for a long time.
The last two times we have eaten at Arugula's I have been disappointed. We bring friends here for their birthdays because they have vegetarian and gluten free food. However I will eat or try anything. I ordered the Saltimbocca chicken for my entree. It was hands down the worse chicken dinner I have ever had. The chicken was very overlooked. It was dry and tasteless. The entire dish lacked creativity. Finger potatoes with very little seasoning and the greens were kale. I consider myself a foodie and a home chef. What I make at home kills that dish. The other disappointment were the clams. I had a few clams that had a funny taste and the tomato sauce was uninspiring. The beet salad was delicious. And I would give the molten cake was just an ok. If it were up to me, I would never go back. This was the second disappointing dinner in a year!
This used to be a good restaurant. I have been there many times over the years. However something changed...
The food is OK. Sometimes very good, but depends on what you order.
What's not OK is the service. We've had a bad experience twice in a row, separated by a few months. Twice, the (expensive) bottle of wine came after the food. We've had to ask for missing food items multiple times before the waitress remembered. Salad came without dressing. Waitress would go MIA for long periods so that we had to ask the busboy for help. Waitress didn't know the first thing about the wine list.
All of this on a Saturday night when the restaurant was half empty (there's your clue).
The prices are commensurate with a high-end restaurant in Boulder, so you would expect great service from trained staff.
This most recent visit was for my wife's birthday. When we left she commented that we shouldn't have wasted our money.
I would like for this to become a good restaurant again because I live in the neighborhood.
We were there for First Bite. The waitress gave a very confused and not clear explanation of the VGF and extra charges. We had asked for separate checks (3 women). Two of us ordered decaf coffee ( which tasted like instant- not great) when it was dessert time. When server brought checks, she said she forgot to add the coffee on and so put both coffee on a separate bill. Turns out she failed to give one of the coffee drinkers an actual dinner bill. We were honest and told her and asked her to put the coffee on each bill rather than having two bills and us dividing that up and adding it on to each bill ourselves. That's the point of separate checks . We didn't leave her a great tip which we usually do. Not great service. I've had much better service on previous visits. Two of us were happy with our choices. One was not - felt portions for what she chose to be very slim. I personally like a restaurant where you have one actual server who is responsible for the table. Not one to take an order, another to drop off the food, someone else stops by to say how are things and then you see the original person when it is dessert or bill time. Makes me feel sort of like an assembly line.
The food was delicious!
The service was very poor. We waited long periods of time to order, and had to ask repeatedly for more water when our glasses had been empty for quite a while.
There was no soap in the bathroom, so I mentioned this to the hostess. An hour later, there was still no soap in the bathroom...
The waitress came to take our order twice as she had forgotten our order the first time...
I don't think I would return as the price was too high for such poor service.
