Artista Ratings and Reviews
Pre theater dining on Sunday night. We had empanadas, churrasco steak, scallops ,and tres leches. All of the food was very good. Service was a bit slow but still finished in time for the show. Prices are high but obviously paying for the convenience factor.
Beautiful location and Cordula family name should be a combination for a memorable dining experience. Our service was good. The food was buffet quality at best. The Tilapia was bland. The special came with a container of milky brown sauce resembling old chocolate milk, crusted over and dribbled on the outside. The crab looked like runny crab mash potatoes. The desert was really disappointing. The delirious de chocolate was described as including raspberry coulis & tropical fruit ceviche. The tropical fruit ceviche was a third of a strawberry and a half teaspoon of crushed pineapple. Disappointing. Maybe the matinee menu is too hard to pull off. You’d think a restaurant in the Hobby Center would have figured out how to do better. Disappointed
Fish dishes were not as good as usual and were slightly overcooked, dry and did not taste very fresh. Service was not up to the high standard usually received. Another waiter who recognized us from a previous dinner brought another round of wine after our server was no where to be found. Our server only asked how everything was when clearing the table. After 10 minutes waiting for the server to pick up the credit card for payment I ended up paying cash and reduced tip dramatically. This is not a typical experience but we will definitely request the waiter who recognized us from a previous dinner. Suggest you do the same. His name is Oseas.
We went pre-theater and were very disappointed in the food. Being big fans of Hugo's and Caracol we expected the same quality of food. Our food was not warm. It came out right after we ordered, so we assume they had plates already done and waiting for someone to order. That said, our waiters were incredibly attentive and warm. They did not rush us and were always there if we needed them. Five stars on service. Two stars on food.
Waitstaff is always friendly and helpful. Our food was not cooked properly and sent back to be redone. Since we had tickets for 2 pm show. Our waiter suggested we come back during intermission and he had our table set up with coffee and dessert. It was perfect.
We are long time season ticket holders for the Broadway Across America series and this was our first and last dining experience at Artista.
We were seated immediately for our noon reservation at a table overlooking the park- unfortunately it was in direct sunlight and half our party was dealing with glare and bright sun for more than half the meal- they apologized for the glare, but didn’t offer to move us to another table out of the sun.
Service was slow, even drinks took a while to arrive (tea and soda). Most of our party ordered off the “Matinee” menu. Food was hit or miss, the lobster bisque came out Luke warm at best, entrees were a little better- but the bacon cheeseburger on the menu came out with no bacon (none to be had in the whole restaurant apparently), and no cheese. For $30, it should have been more than a frozen patty cooked into a dry chunk, but it looked like a hockey puck on a bun. The calamari appetizer was so greasy it was inedible. The tilapia was good.
From check in to us leaving, the dining experience took 1:45. Most of which was us sitting waiting on food or drinks.
We will not be back, I did hear later that the restaurant recently changed ownership, but that was no excuse for the absolute mess of a meal we paid over $200. Save your money, or spend it somewhere that you might actually enjoy your meal and dining experience.
Only visit it because it’s convenient . Probably the worst service personnel in the city of Houston . Waiter walked away twice while we were talking to him . Unapologetic attitude . Saving grace is the fact that they are inside the Hobby Centre . This attitude is recent . Used to be one of my favorite restaurants . Not anymore . Wish they had another restaurant inside the Centre .
The food, service and the view were amazing. The only issue was that we were the only diners! Not sure if this is because the restaurant is mainly a pre-theatre place (being within the Hobby Centre for Performing Arts) or if it’s just because they were hosting a special event for VIPs at the theatre that night. Either way, despite the slightly odd experience of eating in a restaurant on our own, the food was amazing and I’d definitely recommend!
We have been here many times and albeit expensive, the food and service has been worth it. We arrived in plenty of time for a relaxing dinner before the show. It ended up that we didn’t get our food until 15 minutes before the show started. It was very stressful - others around us had the same problem. No discounts were given. We were very disappointed.
Was seated at a table that should not have been located where it was. Wait staff and bus staff bumped us several times running into one of us and knocking menus off the table several times. Asked to be moved and were. Waitress seemed to forget us after move had to flag her down to order.
Food was OK certainly not great
My wife and I had dinner at Artista for a special occasion; her birthday and for a pre show musical at The Hobby Center. Great night! Service and food were excellent. Did not comp dessert for my wife (birthday) but they may not do that or had known. They did not have the bottle of wine that I ordered and recommended others at significant higher prices. Overall another great experience.
Food is OK though I have bad memories of a few not-so-good meals at other restaurants owned by this same group (e.g., America's). Artista is best for pre-theatre dining since it sits within the Hobby Center. I've learned that you must reserve a table in the open area to ensure you're not stuck under the dark low area on the far inside - not where you want to be.
I feel like the quality of the food was not good. Have taken clients and staff to this restaurant many times. Look the view and the atmosphere but will not go again until the quality of the food improves. When the food was delivered to the table the food was cold. Did not send back since I had guests with me.
I've been to Artista several times as I have season tickets for the theatre in the same building. Thought we would try it again and see if they had changed up the menu at all, but no, the same items are there. Even the specials are a combo of items on the menu with the addition of a lobster tail. I do understand the kitchen is working to produce many meals at once to accommodate patrons of the Theatre but I hope they can make some changes soon. My fish was not good and my server took it away and offered me a choice of a different dish or the same. I tried the same and was still disappointed. The STAFF ARE GREAT!
Delicious food, friendly staff and convenient when attending a show at the Hobby Center. We liked that we didn't have to valet twice since the restaurant was in the center itself. The food was amazing! Cooked perfectly and everything tasted so fresh. We will be dining there again.
Artista is a reasonable place to eat before a show at the Hobby Center. You pay for the convenience of being at the Center. The food is reasonable; the service is acceptable. The setting and view is very nice, but all in all, it is not special enough to warrant the price.
