I went for a holiday dinner with friends. It is a nicely decorated restaurant good for dates and special occasions. The ambiance was elegant and muted (not many persons for a Tuesday night). I had L'entrecote did beauf and it was delicious and sizeable, but my wife's plat-cotes de beauf braisees and my friend's Le filet de beauf au poivre were a tap dry for my taste but they enjoyed it. They have a good wine list and made a good cocktail for my wifey.
The service was excellent from pacing/timing and attention to detail. Kudos to the wait staff.
It's not cheap but I had a great time. Will definitely return for another special occasion.

We came on Friday late night for a 10 year anniversary dinner and it was fantastic. I was looking for restaurants to go to and had no idea where to go since we hardly ever come to the downtown area. Looked up Zagat and it was rated one of the best and it did not disappoint. We got the 6 course dinner and the wine pairing option. All of the items were great and was so full once the dessert came around. Was pleasantly surprised when our dessert plates had Happy 10th anniversary written in chocolate. We highly recommend this place.

This is a wonderful French inspired resto in a very nice neighborhood of Houston!

I enjoyed a business dinner of 4 and would like to return again next time I visit town. I recommend their cheese plate and also recommended talking with their sommelier for wine pairings.

They do a very nice vegetarian dinner if you feel like lightening up on a meal while still having delicious food.

We were seated without a wait even though we arrived early. Appetizers were first-rate: my favorite was braised short rib with goat cheese ravioli. Also recommended was oyster with jalapeño cornbread. My husband's pork was more successful than my average turkey with mushrooms. I was very Thankful for the dessert: pumpkin genoise with chocolate ganache.

As an aside, I love the layout of the restaurant. On a previous visit, we sat at the bar. This time, we chose a corner booth - I preferred the coziness.

Thanksgiving with my mom. The chef introduced himself and made sure I was taken care of as a pescatarian. The service was great. Best lobster I’ve had in quite some time. Cooked to perfection. Mom loved the sweet potato soup! Can’t wait to return.

I had a great experience a while back for Easter brunch. Dinner the other night -- a very quiet night at the restaurant -- was a big disappointment. The place was virtually empty. We sat down and were handed menus. We were asked if we were ready to order before our server even bothered to ask about drinks. Then she disappeared so we had to track down a manager to get a drink order. We all agreed that the food was a mixed bag. The wild boar I order held great promise but tasted rather "old" and the accompanying ravioli was barely warm. Dessert was also uninspired. I think for the price they can do better. A lot better.

Beautiful restaurant with ambiance for a special occasion or date night. I brought my grown kids to town and had promised my daughter (who studied french in college) to bring her to this swanky french restaurant. She loved it, and invited a friend along for the fun. Great experience in a classy atmosphere with delicious food!

Dined on a Friday night, glad we got a quiet table as requested. the restaurant has separate dining areas for large groups/ parties, so everyone can be comfortable depending how lively the atmosphere they want to be. the bar seating with the open kitchen is great! tried the tasting menu. a bit of " Americanized" french flavours and portions of the tasting menu could be smaller, but we are in Texas...I guess Chef needs to adapt.. lots of interesting food combinations, some "stretch" your taste buds (like foie gras, for ex, with baklava - sweet and sweeter) but overall good.
ALL (!) wine pairings were absolutely spot on, very impressive.
service was very good, attentive without being a nuisance.
As a "critique" feedback : from the restaurant of this level, table linen or some sort of place-mat arrangements is expected (ie putting the cutlery on the bare wooden table is good for pubs..) also, at one point in time the waiter just used her hand to wipe the crumbles off the table (again, an odd gesture from a restaurant where you pay 300 USD for dinner for 2) .
overall, good evening, good impressions but probably not the one we would put on the list to go back regularly.

It was our 15 year anniversary. We sat at the kitchen bar/chefs table and it felt like dinner and a show. Gregory was amazing. He went the owner, Mr. Fox, over to say hello and he ended up giving us a tour of the kitchen! The food was amazing. I have to try the lobster bisque everywhere I go and theirs did not disappoint. My cocktail was one of a kind! The food and service and experience were unparalleled, we've been telling everyone!

Took the wife here for our wedding anniversary. We came on a weeknight so it may have been quieter than usual but that suited the occasion for us.

Everything from the food to our waiter, Freddi, were on point. The ribeye was one of the best I have ever had.

Highly recommended, I wish we had another reason to come out more often.

Repeat visit for our monthly foodie club. Continues to be outstanding for food, service
has improved, and remodel seems to have made interior more patron friendly. Not all
counter seating as in the past. Wine list complete, not overdone, moderately expensive.
Will be a repeat for our group.

The wine list leaves a lot to be desired, for a french restaurant, the French wine selection was both too young and rather limited. The food was fine. I think the best way I would describe it is rustic fare. It was what you'd expect if you were invited into someone's country home in France and they whipped up a quick meal. Not fancy french food by and not particularly excellent "country fare." While there was nothing to complain about the food, there was nothing special either. And the prices definitely reflect something special. With all the other options in Houston, we will likely not return.

Great food and great value! Went for restaurant week. The potato leek soup was devine. The short rib entree was great. The creme bulee was wonderful, but the mango mouse was a feast for the eyes and the palate!!! Oh, did I say the bread was the best French bread I've had in Houston! Love it!!!

Best French restaurant in Houston. By far. This month we went with the Restaurant Week menu which really does not do the restaurant justice, but is still very very good and a steal: terrine de porc; ribs; mango parfait; great cocktails.

Service as always was wonderful And Jacques -- the sexy wonderful propietere- makes everyone feel welcome.

My husband and I have been to Artisans several times and always loved it. We brought my sister and all ordered from the HRW menu. I was unimpressed with the food. The chicken wellington was OK, but rather dry. The crème brulee was boring. The salad was the best part. It was quite disappointing. We'll likely go again because we had previously enjoyed it, but I'll have to think twice about it.
