Arte Cafe Ratings and Reviews
forget the Greek Diner; go directly to this restaurant before 5:45P and have an exceptional meal with good service, good bread, very good entrees - all served on a linen tablecloth with linen napkins - and - a free and delicious Tiramisu: 3 courses for $15.95!!! can you top that? let me know!
Came into the city met family and saw a movie. Made res for 4 at 7:30 which showed available. Was quite surprised our table was ready 40 minutes before we got there, how come you ask? Because it wS the worst table in the place next to 3 kids next to the old service area. This table should not be part of the open table service, leave it for a walk-in without a res. We declined the table and waited 40 minutes for another table the bar that only has one pinot noir to offer! now we were seated right behind the wall of the hostess first table in the dining room with blasting heat from above vent. We waited at least 5 minutes before the waiter came to give us menus. We hailed the manager to shut the heat which we were glad or we would have left. The room was very noisy and full to capacity. food was just okay, average at that. I won’t rush back here.
While the service started a bit rushed; it slowed to a more leisurely enjoyable pace. While some people might come here for a fast meal, we were there for a longer, slow meal and, without having to say anything, the tempo of the service changed to reflect this. I thought that the wait staff did a great job and we felt relaxed and able to enjoy ourselves. The meal was delicious and portion-wise was plenty. You could share two apps and along with main courses and be quite satisfied. I would definitely come here again.
The noise level is very high. On top pf that they blast Pop/Rock music out of speakers in the corners of the room. We had to move our table as the sound was blasting in our ears and couldn't hear each other speaking. Management should be more attuned to the vibe of the room and adjust the sound level and choice of music to fit said energy! Thank you.
Been here for dinner twice now (once during the week and once on a weekend) and while the food was good both times, the service was severely lacking on both occasions. The restaurant seemed severely understaffed as the food was always very slow to come out and the waiters seemed always in such a rush and weren't very personable or attentive. My wife ordered a pasta dish with gluten-free pasta and the dish arrived with normal pasta which she can't eat and there was no apology offered or assurance that a replacement was coming right up. We had to inform our waiter of what happened and I had finished eating by the time her replacement pasta arrived (which btw we paid a ridiculous $6 up-charge to swap out chicken for shrimp and the dish only came with ~3 shrimp). We will not be coming back to this restaurant
Although the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, the tables in the main room were a little tight. The pizza's were almost cold and just OK. Pasta Bolognese was tasty as was the pork chop. Unfortunately the highlight of the meal was the fried zucchini appetizer. Not enough help during the dinner rush on a Saturday night.
I've long enjoyed Arte Cafe. Great location, nice ambiance, excellent food. My friends and I were all very happy with the experience.
Service was attentive, but not too pushy, which I prefer.
It's also a great lunch bargain. I'll continue to return regularly!
Service was prompt and efficient. They forgot or misplaced my order and it arrived after the rest of the table was done eating. I ordered smoked salmon eggs Benedict which smelled a bit too fishy for my gustatory comfort. I returned it and they graciously changed it to something else. Overall fun, professional and efficient service. Tasty bellinis too.
We decided to go back to the Arte Cafe for our wedding anniversary as they were kind enough to host our Wedding Breakfast 12 months ago. The food is fantastic and the staff are friendly, polite, and attentive. It’s a little noisy with the bar area showing sports on the screens but this actually added to the atmosphere for us, although we were sat in the separate dining area. If you like pasta then you will love the Arte Cafe. Will be back.
We have been here many times, but this time our waiter was not attentive.
Never asked if we wanted a second drink, which we did but he was to busy talking to 2 other waiters in the corner.
We had to ask for a dessert menu. We finished our coffee and 15 minutes later he came by to see if we wanted dessert.
He looked puzzled when I told him he was to late.
So the restaurant lost out on at least $40.00 in additional drinks and desserts.
Kitchen was overworked and service was uneven as a result. Table next to us waited 1 hour and 20 minutes for their entree. Our service was better, but we had to wait about 15 minutes for our drinks. Worst thing: When I checked our bill the next day, we were charged for a food item that we did not order! My husband was headed back to Arte today to get a refund. We are long-time fans of Arte and have been dining there since they opened. They had too many things going on at the same time. Weird thing is that the dining room and outside was not crowded. They were having 2 large private parties at the same time - I think that screwed things up.
Two friends and I came here for a relaxed catching-up dinner. We had a reservation for 6:00 and were seated right away. We sat outside, as it was a very mild October evening, and had a lovely outdoors dining experience—you're not right on the sidewalk, and the restaurant is on a quiet UWS sidestreet. Our server was busy, but he was quite welcoming and got the job done. Bread was a little spongey but came with very good tomato bruschetta. We each got a pasta dish, and all three were yum (especially orecchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage). After we asked for our check, the manager (or owner?) brought us three small portions of a dessert cocktail that was heavenly, on the house. I'll be back for sure.
Had not been to Arte Cafe for a bit as service tends to be unreliable. Visited there a week ago with friends and things seemed better so we figured we would try again. Terrible service. Not overly crowded. Had to keep looking for our server and coffee arrived at least 10 minutes after it was prepared. Didn't order iced coffee but could have.
Good food and good value BUT, we had a problem. My husband is lactose intolerant and he asked waiters to alert him against foods that contained milk or cream, which they did. When I asked, however, whether my dish (three mushroom pasta) had milk or cream they checked in the kitchen and told me no, it did not, so I gave a portion to my husband. As I was spooning the second part of the portion to him, I saw some obvious mozzarella cheese, so then I had to take the food back. It was just lucky that I spotted it. It had not been visible in the rest of the dish. Had he had a violent allergy rather than just intolerance, it could have been a disaster.
The food here is excellent, especially for the price. The dining room is pleasant and fairly quiet. I've eaten here a few times in the past few months and the service can be a little spotty. For some reason there's never salt & pepper on the table and getting a waiter's attention is not always easy. However, the wait staff are usually very pleasant. My complaints are minor and I'll be going back soon.
Old standard Italian, decent food, good value. Nice NYC ambiance inside, the garden in the rear is fun/special when open. Most recently caught the $15 prix-fixe (M-F until 6pm). I had the penne bolognese and caesar salad. it was good - not spectacular, but good - the sauce a tad lumpy and not light, but the pasta good al dente. The caesar salad was just OK. Date had the salmon and mashed potatoes with the Caesar salad. It too was OK. The real story for us on this visit was the great value. Good/OK food - inexpensive, with great old NYC ambiance and with good service. We had the very tasty Tiramisu for third course. With a glass of Rose, and a glass of Pinot Grigio, our total bill came to $62.00 for the two of us! Nice pre-theatre stop.
