food could have been hotter and the calamari fritti crisper. bread very good. wines by the glass have good choices. and service as always very slow and they were not too busy when we were there.
Very good neighborhood restaurant. We decided to sit at the bar which turned out to be terrific, the happy hour menu a nice surprise. Choices included tuna tartare, buck a shuck oysters, and not just deep-fried offerings. We then shared a grilled octopus and potato dish which was as elegant as it was delicious. Will definitely return. PS...the bartender was genuinely interested in what he was doing!
Food, service, and value were great. Went with a large group and everyone enjoyed all of their dishes. Highly recommend.
I had been to Arte Cafe many times before, but never for a weekend brunch/lunch. It was considerably noisier and the service left a lot to be desired. The food was fine as always, but my guests were perturbed by the wait for requested items. I will definitely recommend the restaurant, and go back myself, but not on a weekend at lunchtime.
This is a neighborhood favorite. We've been going for over 15 years since when we moved back to the upper west side. The menu has always been very good, and the lunch pre-fix can't be beat by any other restaurant. The only reason I rated the service poorly is because it seems that when they are deluged due to a local event in Central Park, or holiday, they don't seem to find wait staff that can manage the pace of service NOR can the kitchen. We were in for brunch this Sunday and from the time we ordered to the time our food arrived it was 30 minutes!! The food was great when it finally arrived, but the wait was ridiculous. This is not the first time that food was so delayed in coming from the kitchen. The only reason we'd go back is because it otherwise is a very good restaurant. But the management does not know how to manage reservations in such a way that the kitchen does not get so backed up. Let me add, the waiter was completely inept. Had to ask for our drinks twice; then he forgot the OJ ordered; had a spill at the table and he walked to the back of the restaurant for a bus boy to come up front to clean up - all the while behind him on a shelf there were loads of towels for him to clean up. Again, they are not good at managing reservations or the pace of service needed.
This is a great place to have a meal if you are on the Upper West Side. The service and food are great. They never disappoint.
Too noisy, sat on a wobbly table, no atmosphere whatsover.
The portions are very large. My Milanese was massive but delicious. We went for a Saturday lunch and were offered the lunch menu and the brunch menu - which was nice. Lots of families and a nice atmosphere.
Always a good time!
Bread stale; when fresh bread requested the basket never returned. The tables so close together that the waiters had to ask us to get up so they could serve the neighboring tables. $18 glass of red wine was cheap swill. Food was okay. Very, very loud. I was disappointed as it used to have very good food and was a nice casual Upper Westside eatery. Disappointed!
Pretty loud places they served bread with something akin to Salsa. Branzini was not bad. But the bigness was super salty. I ate about 10 bites and couldn’t eat anymore. Service was a little under sub par, nice, but not as attentive.
We have been going to this restaurant for 20 years. This time we were very disappointed. Service was not professional. Did not listen to what we specified in the order. Not friendly. We made a reservation which indicated a birthday and a gluten issue. None were addressed and waiter was hostile when asked if restaurant had gluten option.
Such nice people who work there. We were 3 people who shared 3 meals and each one of us enjoyed what the others selected. Two of my friends had never been to the restaurant and each said they will return.
Great food and ambiance but the service was a little messed up.
Two sets of servers came to take drink orders and then it remained a bit confused after that.
Yummy meal tho so not a big deal.
We have been going to Arte Café for years and have always enjoyed the food, service and ambience. It is a wonderful neighborhood gem. However, I must say this past Saturday evening, the food was particularly exceptional. We shared calamari, which was perfectly done. As for entrees, my veal marsala was amazing--tender, flavorful, wonderful sauce, well prepared spinach and mashed potatoes done right. My daughter had the mixed mushroom pasta and loved it, while my husband was raving about the short ribs. Rarely have we all agreed on the quality of the dishes we order. As stated, Arte Café is a favorite of ours, but this meal was just terrific. Topped off with an interesting summer breeze dessert, and we were very satisfied customers.
It was a beautiful evening and we were able to get a table outdoors. Our waitress was wonderful, the food was delicious and the ambiance couldn't have been better. Very relaxing, satisfying meal. This is not our first time here and it won't be our last. Highly recommend Arte Cafe, it never disappoints!
I had a business lunch so I thought I'd try a neighborhood place with a lively outdoor cafe. Our table was inside, which was great--quiet. But I have some criticisms: 1. the waiter made it seem like we had to eat fast--and while we were dining, the dining room was never full. 2. No refills on Iced Tea?! Really? That's just stingy. 3. Staff kept trying to bus our plates while we were still dining. All in all, i rate the food B+ and the location A+ and the noise level great for talking. But the service turned me off and it's unlikely I'll return for that reason.
Diverse menu with lots of options. Tasty food. Exceptional cauliflower. Great neighborhood spot.
Good neighborhood dining, atmosphere is pleasant, food is good but not outstanding and the prices are reasonable.
Great place to meet a friend. Food is standard but well prepared and fresh. Portions are good but not overly large. Great lunch special menu at an excellent price point
We had a wonderful, relaxed evening, celebrating a birthday. Our food and our server were excellent.
Menu was varied and priced fairly. Omelets were delicious. Eggs benny were a bit over done and not runny. Need to make a note of that. Service was good and we were able to linger over coffee without any rush.
Good local go to. Food pretty consistent, friendly place.
Great neighborhood place.
I made reservations and was seated immediately in my choice of locations. The back patio was very nice and the service was very good. Overall a very enjoyable dining experience, will definitely come back.
A hidden gem! Best Italian meal I’ve had on UWS; exceptional service and fresh, delicious food. Could not have asked for a better experience
Close to the Beacon theatre and good value. Strong menu.
Good food. Our waiter, Joe, was attentive and always available and checked on us. We love the price fixe choices too!
Outdoor garden was so dark that we couldn't see our food. Had to use flashlight app on our phones. Waiter was distracted and had little sense of timing. Other staff friendly but timid. Food was good but not hot. Maitre'd liked offering smallest tables available until asked for something larger--several were available. Large restaurant with very large bar and seating both outdoors in front and in back garden. Have ben to this restaurant many times over several years --always about the same experience, that is, almost good but always lacking or disappointing. Yet often crowded --often by visitors to the city wanting to be near Columbus Avenue/Central Park and not too far from Lincoln Center (where prices are higher and reservations more difficult to get).
Haven't been to this neighborhood restaurant in 15 years, who knows why - - very surprised at the quality of the food and the new interior. We'll be back often.
Had a time crunch and the waiter was very accommodating! Food was served with time to spare
Consistent Italian dishes with great flavor. We’ve tried just about everything on the menu and are always happy. We really love the fusilli and the bolognese as our go-tos.
Excellent dinner! The best veal I have had in NYC. And our wine choice was really extraordinary. Great service and a place I have gone to for years. Hope it stays for a long time!
Been multiple times. Always good food, professional service. And their $18 three-course dinner before 6pm is a steal.
We had an attentive server. I have eaten here many times over many years...that about says it!
The food was delicious. The lake salad w walnuts, apples, avocado, ricotta salata, carrots and a lemon vinaigrette was one of my all-time favorite salads. The special mixed seafood pasta was also excellent. Desserts — panna cotta and gelati/sorbetti plate — we’re also great. I thouggvut would be loud because the tables were close together but it actually wasn’t. Atmosphere is cozy — I’m sure it would be great in winter.
We've dined here several times over the last five years and have given gift certificates to friends. Watermelon martini was great for a warm night prior to going to theater on Broadway.
One of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. Well priced - good food - comfortable ambiance. There is outdoor seating - but it was too hot to avail ourselves of that on our last visit.
We go to Arte Cafe at least once a week and love it!
Great evening and first time for me at Arte Cafe. I had been concerned after reading a couple of very bad reviews about the air-conditioning, but the restaurant was cooled perfectly. We were very comfortable. I also very much appreciated that we were not sitting on top of other diners. There is a welcome, spacious feel to the place. Greeting and service throughout was lovely, caring and on time, without being in your face. Good wine by the glass list. Excellent salads - my friend and I ordered two different ones - beet salad and insalata mista, and shared. For the main dish, I ordered the lasagna, one of their classics, and it was quite good too, though too rich for me to finish. The same with the gnocchi that my friend ordered. I would definitely return to try other entrees there. Happy to have discovered a friendly, excellent and affordable neighborhood restaurant.
